    1. Anthony Robbins because he's literally changed an industry
    2. Bob Proctor because he's Canadian like me
    3. Andy Andrews because he's got such a great blend of teaching and fun
  • Well, I copied it from one of X's pages. That's why I italicized it and said it's from the death of crap page.

I don't expect attitude (if you mean bad attitude) from a teacher, although they can be that way sometimes. A guru in a sense is a teacher but what he's saying is that they confuse and make people worse off.

  • I hate the word "Guru", so I'll just list the 3 people I listen to above all others:

    1. Allen Says
    2. Jim Edwards
    3. Craig Desorcey

If an email hits my email box from any of these 3 people, it gets opened before anything else. These 3 gentlemen, each in his own way, has taught me everything I know about the internet, without realizing how valuable their lessons really were.

    Thanks guys.

So to cull my list down to three I'll tell you the ones that I really enjoy receiving their emails and my fingers haven't twitched to the unsub link:

    Paul Myers (always interesting)
    Frank Kern (always fun)
    Willie Crawford (always giving)

  • The gurus who give more than they are supposed to do. They are too many good ones out there.
  • 1.Napoleon Hill
    2.Richard Branson
    3.Carl Brashear

Lots more, but these are peope with stories who really inspire me, in different ways.

If we're talking web marketing Guru's only, then I'd give a different answer obviously, but I'd find it tough to get down to three, as there are a lot of web marketers who I think of as the best, for different things.

    Thanks

  • For me *personally* the only people worth being inspired by are those that genuinely tried to change the world in the face of adversity and *actually* made other people's lives better.

    Some examples...

    Ghandi
    MLK
    John Lennon
    Muhammad Ali
    Mother Theresa
    Bob Geldof
    Einstein
    Dalai Lama
    Rosa Parks
    Nelson Mandela

    To name but a few...

These people never sought the title "guru." They never expected you to empty your wallets to benefit from their "wisdom." They simple did and said what they believed to be right. People responded to them en masse because as human beings we all know, deep down, the ultimate truths of coexistence as well as inner peace. Many simply seek the easier paths. Many stupidly believe that there is a hidden secret to happiness and success when the most basic truth is that there isn't one, other than a plain and simply love for our fellow man.

I do not admire any of the alleged gurus mentioned in this thread, except for their capacity to market themselves to needy people. After all, I am a marketer and have been for the last twenty years.

I am also, as you are, simply their customer.

      1. Warren Buffet--I see lots of other people like Buffet's teachings. I've been reading Alice Schroeder's biography, The Snowball: Warren Buffet and the Business of Life. It's great. I really like how Buffet thinks. I'd like to be a mini-Buffet.

      2. Dale Carnegie--His book, How To Win Friends And Influence People changed my life. According to Schroeder's biography, he also had a big effect on Warren Buffett's life. You should never try to sell anything before reading this book. In fact, you shouldn't try to live without reading this book. Don't eat or go to work. Go get this book, and read it first!

      3. Harry Browne--I first found him through his investment articles/books, but I learned a lot about getting more out of life from his book, How I Found Freedom In An Unfree World. I also recently read his sales manual, The Secret Of Selling Anything. Great stuff!

There are lots more, including Gary Halbert, John Carlton, etc., but these are the big three.

Eben Pagan gets on the list. This guy is a genius. I sometimes worry that he's TOO clever.

Brian Tracy is someone I admired a few years back when I was a little younger. Not the biggest fan of his anymore but The Physcology of Achievement program was and still a program I recommend to all.

Tim Ferriss, via his book and then blog, is probably responsible for my most recent big-mindset shift. But maybe he's not really a guru... I still admire his lifestyle.

    • Myself! Seriously though never underestimate the wisdom of your own heart... I like this quote...

" If you start looking for either happiness or fulfillment or both outside or beyond your own faculties, your chances of finding either happiness or fulfillment are almost zero. Have you got that? ALMOST ZERO! This is because there is no one else in the entire Universe who understands your own needs better than you. No One! If you asked me, personally and confidentially, about how you yourself might find happiness I couldn't tell you anything except this - "Have you looked inside of yourself lately?" That is about the best thing that I could do to help you. "

    • I don't mean to offend anyone, but I am just curious because so many people wrote Jesus as a guru...

My point is: if you like, let's say, Tony Robbins it is because you have either attended a seminar, watched a video, listened to an audio program, read a book he has written...

But with Jesus, it is only some ideas written in a book by some people (not even himself) a couple thousand years ago, so we cannot be sure that those were his real teachings... How can people take him as a guru, having so very little information about his seminars and infoproducts? Of course, his product launch was a great success, didn't need Product Launch Formula for himself :-)

That said, I agree with almost everything about what he is supposed to have said and done...

Again, I don't want to sound disrespectful to anyone, I just wanted to start a healthy discussion :-)

  • 1. Arnold Schwarzenegger (Really, everyone should read his story! When he arrived in USA for the first time, he brought with him his goal list and after many years made his EVERY goal become true, that's near to impossible, especially with so ambitious goals like his. Only one last goal remains - become a president of USA, which I believe is possible for him, he'll just change the constitution in next years)
