How i built a 1,284 list in just 11 days & Made $522.91

Hey guys Gavin here

i hope this posts helps you.

this was actually a blueprint given to me by my mentor, and i am now going to share it with you because it really helped me.

... i noticed there are a lot of you guys asking about how you can build a fast list, so i decided to share with you how i was able to build a list of 1,284 people in just 11 days...& make $522 in the process...

First off, anyone can do this so don't worry if you have no experience

ok so here are the steps that i took to get a list of 1,284 people in 11 days


Step 1:

high converting squeeze page & lead magnet

first of all you will need a lead magnet, which is something that you can give away of great value, in order for people to want to give you their name and email address for.

At that point i did not have anything to give away, so i contacted my mentor a guy called Jani G, and asked him if he could give me some ideas.

He allowed me to give away a video that he shot.

So i now had my lead magnet.

Next step was to create a squeeze page to get people to opt in at.

this was a simple page which had a headline, a few bullets, and and opt in form.

This opt in form gave me a 42% opt in rate

Meaning around 4 out of 10 people who came to my page, entered their name and email.


Step 2:

Get targeted Traffic to my squeeze page!

this is the part that is hard for most people because they just don't know how to drive traffic...

here are the ways i drove traffic to my squeeze page:

1 - Forum Posts

i made 5 posts in 10 different internet marketing forums a day, and got traffic from my signature file

yes you can get a lot of traffic to your opt in page if you give good value and take part in discussions in forums, just like this one.

When you give value in forums, people will respect you, then will click on the signature file below , and go to the squeeze page which will give you more free stuff!

2 - Some thank you page ads

i contacted some marketers, (some of them from the warrior forum) and asked them if i could offer my free course for their customers on their thank you page.

this means that people who go to their thank you page after buying their product, will have the opportunity to go to your squeeze page and opt into your list.

Take some time to contact as many people as you can to ask them if you can put your ad on their thank you page.

Not everyone will 'Say Yes' ,... but... some will and those are the ones that count.

the best way is to start off in this forum the Warrior forum!, then other Internet Marketing forums... and then go find some other products that are in your niche, contact the websites owners, and ask them if you can put your ad on their thank you page...

3 - 2 paid solo ads

i found a really cool site where i was able to purchase 2 solo ads for around $15 and $34.

a Solo ad is an email that goes out to someone elses entire list.

You pay and they send it on a given date, its as simple as that.

the first list my email got sent out to was around 10,000 people.

the second list was around 23,000 people.

& i was amazed at the number of opt ins i got from this

that's literally all the traffic strategies i used...



Step 3:

Go VIRAL!

this will add lots of people to your list for FREE FOREVER!

after your prospects opt in, give them the opportunity to recommend your site to a friend.

i used a cool script which i found which allowed people to enter a certain amount of email addresses.

i told them that if they entered 7 email addresses of their friends who would find this info usefull, then they would get an extra bonus.

so for every one person that opted in, i get 7 more people come to my site for FREE.


Step 4: - make easy money up front

Monetize my Thank you page!

On the page which had the video which they opted in for, after they had the opportunity to watch the video, i had a link under the video which referred them to an affiliate product.

most people would click that link after watching the video because of the great content in the video... and some of them bought the product being sold!

within 11 days i managed to build a list of 1,284 targeted subscribers.

Which brought me $522 in affiliate sales.

    One more thing to make any blueprint or guide( step by step) is CONSISTENCY

    that's the word that keeps making you get constant result.


    You might follow this blueprint and do everything and maybe modify some of the stuffs there......and DONT get result in 11 days

    what will see you through the tunnel is when you are consistent

      There are many different niche markets on that site. It's $197 which sucks but you can also do a google search for ezines directories

  • This is an excellent blueprint. You have given the step by step process for success on building a revenue generating opt in list quickly.

    Something you could do on your end when you do have a product of your own that people will purchases is to have opt in page linked for affiliate tracking. This way, affiliates who are gun shy of selling (which I never really quite get how this could be) won't have to do anything but offer high value to their subscribers, friends, followers, connections, etc. On the back end you do the selling driving those who opted in to your paid product page.

      TRAFFIC TECHNIQUE.

      Here's 3 small ones.

      = Add the TWITTER app to your facebook and tweet your squeeze page launch (it will get added to your facebook automatically).

      = Use SocialMarker.com to bookmark a blog post linking to your squeeze page on 40 social marketing sites. Then MASH the RSS feeds (using an RSS masher) of your favorites from all those sites in to one and PING at pingomatic.com

      = Sell a related product on ebay and link to your squeeze page in all communications with enquiries and customers.

    • You could always get Mike Filsaime's Viral Friend Generator, or Frank Kern's Good Karma List Machine. I don't recommend the List Machine right now, I'm pretty sure they're doing some tweaking on it because it had PHP injections...

      I'd go with Filsaime's, it's a classic script.

  • In my opinion, it's not a blueprint but rather, an outline of the process.

    However, this is also something I've thought about for some time. The lead magnet is my only barrier. It's not easy to create a great product.

    Brilliant post, I've just recently focused my efforts on list building and your post has helped me significantly. Agree with everyone on getting a mentor, I've avoided doing this in the first year (big mistake on my part) so I went and got myself a mentor 2 weeks ago.

    I'm still learning but here are my 2 cents:

    - on the thankyou page, you can add free bonuses that have a continuity program such as a coaching program so instead of making a one off sale, hopefully you get to make a passive monthly income as well

    - Gavin you are at a great stage to be doing adswaps now that you have over a 1000 subscribers. I haven't reached that yet although I've been warned to track it so based your swaps on click- throughs instead of the number of people they have on their list.

    - Webinars: I haven't tried this yet but here it is anyway if you want to give this a go and have contacts. Find someone in your market to interview, comment on their blog, read their twitter and send them a personalized email and ask them for an interview. Hopefully they're someone who has a big list and you can leverage here. One technique is to do a personal video message instead of an email - over the top but it gets their attention. Start tweeting it like Jobfreetop said.

    • I used many different internet marketing forums. Search internet marketing forums in Google and post in the buy trade and share sections.

      They require that you have a specific amount of posts but if you post 5 times in each forum you can get good traffic. I find that task tedious so I outsourced it.

    I have just started building a list and yes it can be very hard to get it done, but you have pointed out some very interesting things to make it a whole lot easier.

    One question - Why don't you have any links in your signature box? You might get a few more optins, that is if your targeting IM stuff.

    • My sig file isn't there? It really isn't that hard at all. It's easy. If you think its hard or you think its easy you probably right. To me it's not that complicated at all.

      I am not really on a high. I have been doing this stuff for a while now. I just wanted to share what I did to grow my list to 1000 in 11 days. I do believe I am lucky though because I am living, but I am not lucky to get that result. I just put a bit of work in and followed instructions.

    I believe you're on the right track. I'm assuming $522 is net profit after paying for expenses to get the list. If this is true, then all you need to do is SCALE it up. Meaning . . . once you find a profitable blueprint for success simply multiply your investment and effort by 2, 3 or 10 times. $522 X 10 = $5,220 every 11 days. That's about $15,000 a month!

      All the links to the DOE take me to a clickbank sales page where the price 197$
      This seems to be a rather high price to pay to join an advertising company considering i will then be buying advertising from them

      Am I missing something, is this what you did?

      As someone who has no list whatsoever, I've been thinking long and hard these past few days about having to pull my finger out of my wotsit, and actualy get on and start building one.

      But as with so many things sometimes, the word HOW seems to implant itself in my head, and I put off starting anything at all, as it's so much easier to PLAN on building one than actually getting down to building one NOW.

    • The best thing to do is create a really valuable bonus product that is generic. It has to be REALLY good though and something that everyone needs.

      Example: An entire video course on how to setup a squeeze page. Create an entirely free page dedicated to that course and have your opt in form at the bottom of that page. In the last video provide a call to action and tell them to opt in for more great info.

      IMPORTANT. Do not sell anything. Just create high profile content. People will add it to there thank you pages because it provides there subscribers with good info and plus they might even promote the page to there list.

      The friend script isn't on the market. Actually I think my friend is releasing one soon, I'll post the link if he does.

  • Quite a interesting story you've got there, but of course it depends on the list your buying a message to, obviously the lists you paid money for, worked out nicely for you, considering they are quite cheap, it's quite a good deal and it's definitly a worth-while risk.

    Smart way to make some money.
    Basic really. Everyone could do this. You do not really have to spend any money on advertising that squeeze page. Use all the free internet resources and you will still get people to register.

    The Lead magnet and the affiliate product must be appealing.

  • Wow, this is really generous of you to share such vital and truly conducive information. Let us know if you're technique continues to pay off this way. Also, do you have any idea, using analytics, as to how much of your traffic came from which of your traffic driving strategies? I'd be interested to know which ones were the most and least productive. Writing 5 helpful posts on 10 different marketing forums a day seems like a tall order for me, as I only have a couple of hours a days to work. I'm just trying to be most efficient.   • Hi guy's just a quick update on my progress....

    I created a blog and wrote one article and used Robert Planks action pop up script. I done this about a week ago and I have added 17 Leads To my list from doing just that. 17 x 52 Weeks = 884 extra leads a year. That's equivalent to $884.

    IMAGINE If I create more articles which I will SOMEDAY.. I just hate writing them and I am a tad Lazy. I can then get that up to maybe 17 subscribers per day from just one traffic source.

    I am thinking about creating a video on what I did and how to do it. If your interested please let me know. I'll show you how to set up a blog and everything. I will only do it if you interested. It's by BIRTHDAY today so I want to do something special!!!

    I am thinking about doing a List building service where I build your list for you! Let me know if your interested in that as well. (IM NICHE ONLY)

    My list is now 5332 subscribers as I write this. It's been around a month and a half since I started building this specific list and I will provide you with video proof if i create the blog setup video. It depends if people are intrested..

      Do you know where I can get the legal forms regarding Earnings Disclaimer as in your Opt in Squeeze Page?

      I've got another question though in one of your post you said to include the content right on the page and then provide an option for an opt in list but not to put any promotional content in it.

      But then you said you had a small affiliate link under your video or your content so how do you set it up?

      Wouldn't it also be better to require your members to sign on to your list before getting the good stuff?

      Sorry I'm pretty new to list building but intend to try it out shortly your tips here have been very helpful. Bookmarked for sure!

    Thanks for the post... I've been building my list mainly by doing adswaps with other list owners. Usually those with similar sized lists. Its working out well and I plan to reinvest the income very soon into paying for solo ads like you suggest.

    I saw some resources for finding JV Adswap partners posted by Aimee Vo earlier. I would like to add another...

    JV List Building

    And another strategy that I implement is "download page swaps"

    Basically, I found a couple of other people building lists in my niche... we all created banners and put them on eachothers download pages. They link to our squeeze pages. This has brought in some nice results.

    Another suggestion, which I plan to implement soon, is using autoresponder swaps... here is how this will work...

    when someone subscribes to your list you send them a welcome message.. now on that welcome message or in a follow up email you send the next day you could have a list of recommended resources... and those will be links to other peoples squeeze pages.. in return they will do the same for you.

    From my experience so far I have found that doing JV Adswaps with other list owners is great. Just be careful because some people will scam you by lying about their list size or not mailing for you at all. So if you can ask for referrals from other's they've swapped with. But this doesn't happen very often. Always track clicks you send and that they send you. My host has link tracking that I use. But if you don't have that you could always use something like bit.ly

    Great ideas. I have found that the first and best thing you can do is give something away of real value for free. After someone buys within a day or two I try and send them something else of value for free as well! This helps the purchase stick!

    Another source of "solo ads" is to type in "solo ads" in the search box of this forum.

    Go with a person that has a "reputation" on the forum: lots of posts, length of time as a member, etc. And lots of communication with that person.

    I myself noticed a jump in opt-in's after visiting forums. I learned of this list-building technique a while back but hesitated to implement the strategy.

    As mentioned adding value is where it's at. If you desire value in the form of leads and sales you must offer value. Follow that equation and you can never go wrong.

  • Another strategy to use is to submit informative articles related to your niche to ezinearticles.com and link to a blog post that expounds on the article you posted to ezinearticles.com and have an opt-in box in the sidebar. The best way to monetize the traffic coming to your blog from ezinearticles.com is to plug in an affiliate promotion within the blog post that expounds on the article you posted to ezinearticles.com

  • Im glad you mentioned this step as the first step. Many people get this wrong, yet this is the most important of all. Having a capture page , and a lead magnet to follow is the fundamental of your site. Yet many people dont do this or not even have a capture page at all. With no capture page, you cant even build a list.
