The Power of Consistency

Hi Warriors,

I just thought I would discuss one of my favorite subjects - consistency. The truth is that being consistent makes the biggest difference when it comes to success. I have seen the biggest difference in terms of achieving my goals when I stick to it. No matter how little, doing something every day towards your goal will bring you closer to your dreams or goals.

If you were to choose one word that's making a big difference in your success, what word would that be?

  • I couldn't agree more, I think consistency is so overlooked, one of my favourite quotes from back in the days of my sales jobs was "ordinary actions repeated consistently lead to extraordinary outcomes". I think with real consistency it is actually possible to "fail your way to success" - like that story of the rocket that "fails it's way to the moon" .

I wouldn't say that everything I do is a failure by any stretch, but I would say that everything individually is definitely ordinary, but if you put it all together and keep doing it, it brings a good result.

I think if youre not consistent youre not truly successful, and if youve failed once or twice and then given up then you just havent failed enough to succeed Keep at it!

    • That's true. 'Slow and steady wins the race" is one statement that keeps me going when I feel like, I haven't done as much as I should. Tomorrow is another day and just move on no matter what your day had been yesterday.

  • Consistency is very important in anything you do.Whether it's in sports,business,etc... I think if I wasn't consistent I would of failed a long time ago.I see too many people give up the moment they fail.Think of it this way let's say your in a dark room and the light to where the exit is at there are football players looking to tackle you down,(Lets call these your obstacles)You'll get knock down plenty of times but if your consistent you will find your way around these football players.(Adjusting you gameplan)My version of the "POWER OF CONSISTENCY!"

  • Humans are creatures of habit.

If your current habits aren't getting you to where you want in life, it's time to change them.

    • Yeah..it kind of freaks me out sometimes...I'm like yeah I'm nothin but a machine....laaame. But at least I'm a machine that can change myself because I accept that we're creatures of habit....to make new habits we have to purposely work them into our routines.

In other words...if we accept we are nothing but a series of habits, we can more easily accept ourselves and choose to create new ones..

The best time in the day to change a habit...bright and early....when we still have all of our energy.

    • this is spot on!
  • It is equal with PERSISTENCE? I think so.

    • Similar but they have their own important qualities. I see consistency as being focused and doing something everyday no matter how little it is. You may not necessarily deal with challenges but probably distractions.

Persistence on the other hand is the power of not giving up no matter what situations you're in. Nothing will get you down and nothing will make you give up.
  • The most important things for me are FOCUS, PATIENCE and DISCIPLINE. Being an internet marketer isn't easy and there are lots of instances wherein you seek and receive information here and there, you experience ups and downs split testing methods and then you eventually needed a break. Thus, it takes time to find for the right things to focus on and manage them to earn a living.

Bottomline, if you want to be successful, don't ever procrastinate again and retain those 3!
    • [ 2 ] Thanks
    • [2] replies
    • FOCUS, PATIENCE and DISCIPLINE these are definitely a must to master to make it in any business. Patience is something I had to learn the hard way. Focus and discipline had not been as much difficult for me, but am far off from mastering them. Still working at them every day. The most important lesson I had learned is to forgive myself for the things I hadn't done yesterday and to give myself the same opportunity today as I did yesterday. That's seems to work great and helps me to achieve better than yesterday.
    • Totally agree.
I think it also helps to be focused, patient and disciplined about the RIGHT THINGS, ie. do some LEARNING and TESTING first, then DO like crazy.

Keeping sane with quality food and exercise helps too... keep the mind in top shape, take a break now and then. I learned it the hard way when I fried my brain few too many times Take your shoes off and walk on grass!

  • Totally agree, if I could choose one word it would be "persistence" without persistence many people wouldn't succeed, they would give up before they get anywhere near to succeeding.

With consistency, persistence and motivation you can succeed at anything.

  • Consistency is really important, as long as you also remember that doing the same thing and expecting different results can be a sign of insanity. I think someone else made a thread about that the other day. I know it sounds like contradicting ideas, and it really is. The trick is to know when you're on the path towards success. Like, knowing how and when to make small changes to your plan with consistency to your overall plan, rather than just repeating the same mistakes and not learning from them. I think that's the biggest thing to remember when focusing on consistency.
    • [2] replies
    • Absolutely true. When I think about consistency I usually mean following your plans and not letting overwhelm or procrastination drift you away from what you're supposed to do.
      • [1] reply
    • I have been having this feeling; trying to test sales pages, writing articles, building links, and not knowing when to stop. I had been feeling a little "crazy" because it seemed like nothing was working. So, was I being consistent or insane?

Now I have learned when I feel like that to ask for help - and take a break.

So, my 2 cents is to use consistency in learning, testing, writing, linking, analyzing results, taking a break and doing it again. Consistently.

      Thanks for this post.

      Take care,
      Cindy P.

  • I agree. What I do today may not even be noticeable for months down the road. I just have to keep up the pace
  • That one word would be attitude. I say attitude, because how you think and look at things determines how you act & react to it. A positive attitude will help one stay focused, no matter how long it takes to succeed. With an attitude of instant gratification, it is short lived, thus, always looking for the easy way out. So, I'd say attitude! :-)
    • [1] reply
    • What you said reminded me of a quote by Wayne Dyer "If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change." This comes down to attitude. Definitely a must to master.
  • Hello everyone, I joined warrior this month and just love it. Yes, you are absolutely right about consistency. Beside it, I feel that one word which makes a big difference in success is 'Faith'. This is what keeps me going.
    • [1] reply
    • Welcome to the forum. Is it a great place to hang around when you take a break from your work, is it?

I really like how faith is a great part of your success. If you don't have faith in what you're doing, you may not take action or do anything. Faith is the foundation of what you do; without it you have nothing. Thanks for this post.
  • You are so correct. Consistency is very important if you expect to reach your goal. It may seem slow at first, but in the end you will be smiling at your success.

    • I think the reason I like this word of Consistency so much is because, it keeps reminding me that no matter how little it is, whatever I do goes to making a difference. I then stop thinking that I'm far away from my goal and then helps me to focus on the little things that I can do to make a difference.

  • Yes I agree with that, if you are consistent toward your goals. If you post consistently on your blog, if you are consistent in your internet marketing, you will eventually see success.

    • Yes, that is a universal law that can't be bent. You will reap the fruits of your hard work. That's why you don't want to give up or change your plan or be inconsistent. The universe will not know what to give you if you keep changing your mind. An analogy that I like to use is that if you call the Pizza place and order for a home delivery and then you call back a few minutes latter changing your mind, you're not going to get the pizza.

    • Yes, they are somewhat related. Perseverance is more of getting up and going after a challenge and not letting anything put you down. Think of it as nothing that happens changes your plan.

Consistency is not jumping here and there with different ideas and plans. It's more of doing something daily towards your goal. They both are needed for success.
  • Hey great post!

  • I have again and again seen consistent people outperform great people with brilliant talents because THEY ACT.

We are back to the story of the Hare and the Turtle. All success in our life is based on consistency. Learning to walk, talk, read, study and work is all based on a consistent effort. An effort that made us learn line upon line, precept upon precept.

To me lake of consistency is like the farmer that discover that harvest is near in September. As he did not sowed in April, his effort of sowing, growing and harvesting in a week is futile.

Consistency is also a unbeaten way of creating trust...

  • My word is honest.

Being honest with yourself allows you to make intelligent decisions. It's easy to get caught up in the stuff that's not working for you, whilst taking for granted the actions that are. Be honest with yourself, what is making you money? Refine it, scale it, automate it.

Being honest with others is the foundation of any relationship. The second part is providing honest value - the money just comes with it.

  • One of the "behind the scenes" principles tapped by successful people is their ability to persevere, to keep on being productive in spite of circumstances. Consistent leads to desired consequences. It is the ability to apply oneself to the tasks that lead to the fulfillment of a goal. Consistency is the opposite of working only when one feels inspire
    • [1] reply
    • I agree with these statements. Very well said. I always say that when you are after a goal, you must work regardless of your state of mind daily towards your goal. An example would be going to YMCA (Fitness center) rain or sunshine, feeling like working out or not to obtain your desired fitness level.

  • Consistency is a very important thing. In fact when picking your pace of work, you must ask yourself will I hold this pace consistantly?" A lot of people (including me) failed because they weren't consistant.

Another thing of importance is organization. If you are organized in what you do, that will make it easier for you to be consistent. Once you get a routine down, you'll be amazed at the difference it makes in your life.
    • [1] reply
    • I absolutely agree about being organized. I used to be organization freak. I used to spend more time trying to organize and put things in order than working in my business. I now take it easy as it was affecting my productivity. When organization is made in moderation it absolutely helps one to become successful.

  • You know, this is something people essentially know is true deep down, but consistency can be a dirty word i guess for those that choose to feel that way about it because it means some work.

But essentially it's what builds momentum which equals progress which equals something else good........
  • Consistency forms the bedrock for achievement in any field of human endeavor. I can't imagine a life making progress without being consistent. So far all the posts in this thread are quite appreciated.

  • This reminds me of Nike's best quote last year,'Just Do It'.The meanings are simple to understand yet acting on it.Yes consistency is very important in so many ways.Without it,there won't be any technologies running in this world.Without it,we won't be able to do things that we thought it was impossible to do before. The principle is simple.First, set your goal.Second, act!I've read many kinds of motivation books, been to countless self-improvement programs and what I find in every of them is just the principle itself. That's what they mostly try to focus on.So be consistent and never give up!

    • Consistency is absolutey key to achieving anything in life. You must have the drive and determination to succeed to be consistent. What is very important though is to do what works.

Its no use doing something everyday if that thing is producing no results. You must first find what works and do it EVERYDAY on a consistent basis.

Remember, Focus, Determination, Persistance, Motivation and Action are the key aspects of success and anyone who has all those qualities and uses them on a consistent daily basis will undoubtably succeed.

  • I have to agree on this one- and I write about it often too in my blog, and like to think I practice it too!

You may think you aere only moving ahead slowly, but think of all thew effort to get started on something, xcompared to the ewffort to keep going. It's all about momentum as well. I have ound that I just do a littl eeach day, (or you can do a lot), but stay consistent. You will actually come out ahead of someone who is just averaging very basic results, even if they are going full steam ahead in short bursts.

If I can give any advice, please stay consistent- it will pay off...

Persistence is the one word that sticks out in my mind.

If I hadn't kept going I wouldn't have picked up the knowledge to succeed. It's only by persisting through the tough times that I've succeeded.

I also feel that having a strong desire and faith in self is important, but without persistence nothing significant would have occurred in my life.

  • Consistency and focus for me. I found that until I became really focused on what it is I want out of life - or rather, life forced me to become focused! - it was hard to keep working consistently.

But when you have a very clear aim in life everything else just somehow seems to fall into place. Just like that book, "Think and grow rich" says it will! I think it should be essential reading for everyone, business or no business.

I also came across a very effective and powerful self help technique a couple of years ago and it has been incredible for me. Check out Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) (link in sig). It is totally free and non-for-profit. And it works!

  • CONSISTENCEY BACKED WITH PERSISTENCE IS THE KEY.

Success isn't about doing big things. It's about doing small things every single day consistently for a period of time.

You are not going to make money by writing 50 articles one day and submitting them today. Maybe you'll have a few sales. But you'll definitely succeed if you write 5 articles every day for thirty days. You would end up earning a $100/day income stream. Most people even me fails to realize this.

Instead of writing 5 articles every day for new campaigns, write 5 every day for your winners. In the end, you'll end up dominating that niche and you'll be having mind blowing sales. That's what I've discovered after my fair share of troubles in the last 2 years.

Yes, consistency is the most important principle that come right after desire. Desire and consistency are 2 success principles that are closely kneaded together. They are twin sisters, without desire, there will be no consistency. Without consistency, the desire will wear off slowly after that.

    Mind Map:

So it is Desire --> Consistent In Taking Actions --> Increase Desire --> Consistent In Taking More Actions --> Habit Forming --> Character Building --> Destiny

  • Consistency is something that is pretty much a prerequisite in IM due to the fact that we're bombarded with so many systems and bright shiny objects on an almost daily basis.

We need to be consistently doing what brings us results, and unfortunately without the proper focus and resolve it's all too easy to jump from one system to another. In order to truly succeed at IM, we need to be consistently implementing and doing that makes us money. Typically this can be tedious, boring and not something we're looking forward to, but it needs to be done if we truly want to succeed.

As you have probably deduced, success is not a flash in the pan or a sudden overnight occurrence, it is derived through habit and consistency!

  • I agree with being consistent. Another word that comes to mind is Passion. There has been many days when I didn't feel like getting my day started, but having a passion for what I'm working on carried me through. Having that passion made me consistent. Great post! See you at the top!
    • [1] reply
    • Let's be honest, if you don't have passion you're not going to do a thing. I remember working part-time for a company and I hated that job passionately. It was a drag to even get there. Once I quit my job and decided that I'll stay home with the kids while living within the income my husband brought home was the best decision I ever made. I now work a minimum of 8 hours a day in my online business. I also work weekends. I rarely take a break. When I do it's because I have to attend to my kids. I know why I work long hours but I'm happy all the time. I also know why I care less whether I took a break or not. Simply because of passion. I'm passionate about my online business. In fact, I don't even see it as a job. I see it as something fun to do. If I didn't have this fueling passion within me, I wouldn't have survived all the trials and challenges I went through this business. I still have a long way to go but I know I'm getting there. Thank you for saying "see you at the top" because those words meant to me a lot. See you at the top to all of you as well. Keep the passion going it will carry you through heard times and good times. That's all you've got to make this work. All the consistency, persistence, hard work, plan, goals, vision, desire, wish, motivation is not going to be there to help you unless all is filled with passion.
  • I started putting away $200 a month, every month with no exceptions, until about 4 months ago. As of August 2010, I've put away around $4800. I've stopped because of some small financial difficulties - I was pretty much going paycheck to paycheck. I plan on resuming my savings starting in January. In 5 months, I will have missed out on $1000 that I could have had in savings, because I made unwise financial choices (and frankly, some unfortunate investments). Just to think that all that time has gone by in a flash, and I don't have the expected $5,800, and only $4800 instead, blows my mind.

  • Annie,
This is an extremely important word in any business - consistency. I totally agree with your post. I think that everyone goes through a relaxed moment and pause from the commitment towards achieving the goals. It's like having a short break. The risk with this is that one may get lost and finds it difficult to get back on track.

I always make sure to do something everyday that helps me to progress towards my goals. It becomes a habit, a positive one.

I advice everyone to do this and never give up. Be consistent in your thoughts and in your actions.

  • I would say perseverance. No matter what obstacles you encounter along the way you still continue to do everything to reach your goal.
  • I agree that consistency is one of the pillars of success in anything. We hear stories about people who achieved great things, and so often only see the 'grand finale event' that got them their fame, and completely ignore how long they worked at it every day before they were rewarded.
  • Action would be the word.

I agree you need to make some kind of time schedule to reach your goals. Just to ensure you moving forward. Don't mind if your doing it in you own pace as long you make progress
  • I can't tell you how many people I know that have come to with some big idea to make money and once they see the smallest obstacle they give up....

The most golden rule is that money is never made easily despite what anyone else says or makes it seem like, unless you are born into a very wealthy family or marry into one but that's another story...

Truth be told is to mind your own business- embrace self-expressionism of bettering yourself everyday.

    PS: sorry for grammatical errors
  • I would choose 'persistence' because successful people in life have gone through many challenges chasing their dreams but at no point did they give up.
  • The biggest thing that makes a difference to me personally and to us is easily summed up in one word: FOCUS!

  • Hey Annie -

PERSISTENCE is my word. It's just too easy to give up when you don't get immediate results.

Hi Warriors, I just thought I would discuss one of my favorite subjects - consistency. The truth is that being consistent makes the biggest difference when it comes to success. I have seen the biggest difference in terms of achieving my goals when I stick to it. No matter how little, doing something every day towards your goal will bring you closer to your dreams or goals.
