What to do when you have a HORRIBLE week

My progress has been pretty stable since I started this IM craziness! I have made some money and learned a lot, and have been making consistent conversions on websites ever since I started a few months ago, thank God...

But...this past week has been freaking HORRIBLE. I mean bad. Zero conversions. Same amount of clicks. It has been truly horrific and I'm trying to find a reason to continue forward.

Can anyone give me one?

  • Yeah....

Why does it genuinely matter if you have one bad week?

Does the weight of your entire life depend on this week? Does it depend on this month?

I'm not saying, oh well...that's what it is.

Just realize you got no conversions and find a way to improve.

Your making it seem like one week is a horrible thing ; )

We all have our ups and down...variance is a part of business....the only thing you can do is learn from your mistakes.

    • Yeah, it's just crazy going from a 300 dollar week online to a 0 dollar week. Makes me think that my damn clickbank account broke or something. Seriously.

      Would you be concerned?

  • I wouldn't worry to much about it. If everything's been good up till now, then this is probably just a fluke bad week. If it continues, then you might have a problem. Just out of curiosity, could the niche you're in slow down around this time of year? Do you have any way to possibly look into this?

I once heard that the internet marketing niche booms from Jan. to May, and then begins to slow down. I would assume less people are in front of the computer when the weather warms up.

Don't know how true this is. Just something I once heard.

This is something you might want to consider.

    • It tends to matter when you have bills to pay!

And now that I think about it, the trading niche usually is pretty sour when the summer months come around, I'll probably just have to get into some other niches and see what happens.
  • I'd wait for one more week, dig into my analytics and Google webmaster central for any clues and persevere with whatever method that was bringing in the $$ earlier.
  • Hey bud, it's ok if you're a having a bad week, it happens to everyone, just try to move forward. When I have a bad day or a bad week and I need something to motivate me to refuel my "drive", I listen to motivational music. I feel it really helps. Maybe this is not your kind of music but try it. It works for me.

Here are some songs I recommend:
    • Aloe Blacc - I need a dollar
    • Travis McCoy ft. Bruno Mars - Billionaire
    • Busta Rhymes ft. Linkin Park - Busta Rhymes
    • B.o.B ft Eminem & Haley Williams - Airplanes Pt II
    • Chiddy Bang - The Opposite of Adults
    • Jamie Foxx ft. Justin Timberlake & T.I - Winner
    • Jay-Z ft. Kayne West & Rihanna - Run this Town
    • Kevin Rudolf ft. Birdman - I Made It
    • Fabolous - Imma Do It ft. Kobe
    • Eminem - When Im Gone
    • Boyce Avenue - Take You There (Acoustic)
    • Gym Class Heroes - Cupids Chokehold
Hope that helped but. Better Luck next week.

    Cheers.

  • You have been more successful then the majority of IMers! If you've been actually getting results! Don't sweat it. If it lasts longer, then maybe we should find something to adjust with your pages and such.

And use the bad week to give you fuel to work harder and more effectively so that the next week is 2x better then your best week.

    Cheers

  • I'm with Kochmas on this particular point. I've always found that when I am unhappy because something is not working the way I want, I can try forcing myself to rectify the situation immediately but I usually end up spinning wheels. Instead, I just take some time out to do family things until sooner or later the answer hits me out of the blue. It almost never happens unless I have completely let go, and that can take me upwards of 48 hours some times.
  • I'll give you 51 reasons to keep going... that is 51 more weeks to have a wonderful week. Marketing online is just like life... sometimes you win and then sometimes you win more. A bad week is a lesson in patience and may be checking your tenacity. Keep pushing.. Do more of what you did when you had the good weeks and be grateful that you had those.

Attitude of gratitude makes the miracle happen again and again... keep going... keep believing.... keep doing. You're doing great. some people don't seen any money for years. You are way ahead of the curve.

    • Whenever I have a horrible week, I just do deep breathing, taking sometime away from that stressors then just pamper myself like having a massage, dine out or just rest and watch my favorite shows. Best of all, I always bear in mind that this too shall pass and tomorrow is another day. It works surprisingly
  • No kidding! I have been playing splinter cell conviction like it's my damned job!

Plus I just realized, I'm in nothing but niches that are weak in the summer. Serves me right for setting all these goals and being in the wrong niches for this time of year! Guess I gotta learn somehow!!
  • I'm retarded! No wonder my market has been getting stale...

Trading niche: everyone knows the market slumps after Winter and Spring. All the money managers go on vacation with their families.

Violin playing niche: academically driven. and the kids are pretty much out of school by now....

Eczema niche: typically eczema symptoms are better in the warmer months.

FML. What was I thinking? I need to diversify...
  • just relax and think over the problems. Try to understand what was wrong and avoid this the next time. This always helps me.
  • What to do when you have a horrible week?

Back up and do it again next week.

My day job is in retail and sometimes there are weeks when people aren't buying. And sometimes there are weeks when they are not even visiting.

If the overall performance is good then there is no point in beating yourself up over a bad week.

Maybe there are some things you can take home out of it -

    1. If you are in a seasonal niche then extra income streams will help to ride out the out of season times.

    2. Put some money aside from the good times to help you ride out the bad times. That way you don't feel so much financial pressure when sales get slow.

    3. Remember why you are doing it.

And I think the best piece of advice I ever got about riding out tough times -

GET UP, DRESS UP and SHOW UP
  • Good day to you, and thanks for posting,

Every single Internet Marketer will have one bad week at some time.

However, there are things you can do in the longer term for it not to be a problem.

Seasonal variations can ocur in different niches, as well as products becoming superceded, and so on.

Whilst you need to always be consistent, you weill find that sales can vary, but over time, as you develop your niches (always have more than one income stream) which will aloow one slow week to be made up with profit from another niche or product.

It comes down to not having all your eggs in one basket.

In the long termn, one slow week in one product is not a prpblem.

I always say you need to be consistent, and don't seat it- just keep going. It's like the tortoise winning the race.

    Cheers

    Martin
  • Look at the bigger picture. Do not freak out over one week for sure. It's like the stock market - if you invest in a stock and watch it every day, you'll drive yourself nuts. Just keep trudging along with the proper principles and your results will continue. Good luck..

  • I think both of we are alike in this thing. Sometimes when I do not get any sales, I am afraid and think about doing other things like a day job. But, it does not happen for a long time. Sometimes, I do not get even a single sales a day and sometimes I get 7-8 sales with same amount of visitors. You know, sometimes it is nothing with 150 visitors and sometimes it is 3 sales with 30 visitors only with same source of traffic.

This is really a weird thing, we can't understand. Just do not worry about that. It is IM and there are a lot of ups and downs there. Just keep yourself motivated. Make an excel sheet of your sales and check your sales as a daily average. Do not take sales for weeks or days seriously, just check for averages. Do more hardwork on next week to compensate the previous horrible week. Write some more articles and PRs etc.
