Parents don't take me seriously

I'm 20 and I currently work casually as a lifeguard in a leisure centre. The hours fluctuate massively, sometimes I can work 48 hour weeks, other times I may only pick up one 8 hour shift. I basically pick up whatever shift I can, as there are no full time places.

In a way it's a good thing, because some weeks I have a lot of time to spend working online. I decided at the beginning of this year, that I want to get into Internet Marketing seriously, and hopefully one day, do it full time.

Whenever my parents ask me what my future plans are, I dont think they take what I'm saying seriously. I guess it's because it's all new to them, but I have explained to them what it is I'm doing.

I just need to get past the Clickbank CDR because I think it might be a case of showing them that first cheque. Maybe they will take it more seriously then?

Hopefully I haven't come across as a 'newbie with a dream' who thinks IM is easy. I know it takes alot of dedication and hard work, but I can deal with that.

Is anybody in a similar situation as me?

You hit the nail on the head here - IM takes a lot of dedication and hard work. As for my parents - well, my mum knows nothing about computers and I do not think she fully understands what I am trying to do but my dad on the other hand is trying everything he can to set up a business online.

All their doubts were cleared once they saw the $200 payment I had sitting in my Paypal account which I made from CPA. Since then, they have been a lot more supportive.

Get that first cheque and PROVE to them you CAN do it!

    Best of Luck!

I'm not in a similar situation but definitely know how it feels.

Best of luck, and like theannoyingorange said, get that first cheque and prove to them it can be done and that you can do it. Once they actually see you making a consistent earning from it, that should be enough to convince them you made the right choice.

Be patient, and keep it up!

    You're not alone.

A lot of teens and young adults have parents are asking them, "What the heck are they're doing on the computer????", They are a bit clueless you're making money.

Many parents will think you're falling for a scam...just show them the $10K check per month and they'll understand.

My parents always used to say "what are you doing on the computer" and "have you got a job yet?". One day I said "yes I have, I'm an article writer" and I got laughed at! Tell them I'm making £250 per week and their laughter sooned turned to "well done", it's all about proof.

Don't worry about getting them to take you seriously. Just keep doing what you love. Hopefully, once they see that you're dedicated and focused, they'll come around. If they don't, that's ok too. We can't force people to understand and support our dreams, but what we can do, is work hard and try to achieve them anyway.

There is much bigger difference between "our" generation and current parents than between parents/grandparents. It's just been a major shift in the last 20 years.

Don't worry about them, ignoring their naysaing and let the money speak.

I think you're right here... and then when you're making the money and you're happy and everything is fine, they will realize that there's really nothing to worry about any longer. Some people need to see proof before believing... nothing wrong with that. I'm one of them myself.

You will have a great feeling once you receive that check from clickbank. Take a nice photo of it and stick it on the wall. In a year, you will look back and realise how far you got to with IM.

This business is all about making a decision. If people respect you or not, it is their decision, as long as you are happy and you are doing what you want to do.

I read a lot on this forum about young people like you, making lots of money from the internet. My take on it; I AM SO JEALOUS (in a good way) I wish, I started this when I was 15-16.

Keep at it and tell us your success stories, if you need help on anything, just send a quick PM and I will do my best.

I have to disagree with any advice suggesting you "ignore" you
parents. you can use their support, and creating an adversarial
      situation will not help.

why not sit down and explain to them that there are many people
earning anything from a nice extra income to regular incomes to
quite surprising incomes! let them know that you are in the process
of education yourself & and the same time building up your business.

lay out a business/life plan. explain that you will be continuing your
weekly time for money job, but that when you are at the computer?
you are "at work" (this would mean actually bearing down and not
pm'ing all your forum and facebook freinds for 3 hours every day!)
maybe even ask your parents to help you find a niche! say your dad
like bass fishing ... "hey dad! what did you learn later on that you
wished you knew when you first started bass fishing?" get a niche/blog
going and engage them. get them excited, and you may have
      some help.

whatever you decide, get a small project running successfully before
you try for bigger things. many fail as they (initially) aim for mega
success, before they have even made 1 sale.

I think if your doing what you love. It truly doesn't matter what your parents think. Of course you may respect who they are and what they have done for you. But when it comes to your future, it all in your hands. Your parents cannot live your life for you. You have to live your own life. And it's up to you to pursue your dream.

You say your parent may not take you seriously. But, in all seriousness it doesn't matter what they think. You are the creator of your own reality. You have to walk the path. You have to read books on internet marketing. You have enter into the labyrinth of your success and engineer your world. So as far as your parents, there not irrelevant. You are the key to unlock your success. For get what your parents think and start living and thinking for yourself.

    1. Decide what you want
    2. Don't stop till you get there
    3. Dream Big
    4. Do what you love
    5. Thank your parent later for the motivation...
    6. Have fun.
