Dont Despise Simple Methods !!

Just had a remarkable conversation with someone and we discussed a VERY effective but incredibly simple traffic tip (cannot share it because it is not mine).

Long story short I was astounded at their dismissive attitude.

Listen just because something is not very sophisticated or hi tech does not mean it is not a good idea.

In fact it begs the question if many of us are missing out on obvious and simple basic processes that get the job done just because they seem too easy?

Do we try and make the job more sophisticated than we need too, for example I was looking on a blog at someones mind map for a traffic process recently which was just looked like the 'Matrix' or something and all I could think is why make it so complicated.

Anyway I would rather do easy peasy any day if it works ... let's keep our minds open!

  • The simple fact is...

People don't value what's easy to come by. If something is simple
and obvious, it can't have value. If something is complicated and
requires a PHD to understand, it must be worth something to
    possess that knowledge.

I agree it's silly, but people are still looking for that last elusive
"secret" that's finally going to give them the edge even when a
simple idea will give them better results.

Such is the burden of a marketer.

We have to "pretty up" simple ideas because most people don't
see the value in a simple, straightforward ideas that work.
  • The simple ideas are always the best ideas!
  • I love this post!!!

Seriously, if most people knew how "Stupidly Simple" most of the ways I have made money online were, you would think they would jump at the chance, but they still wouldn't do it.

I know because I have done some real easy, no brainer stuff and had success doing it. I then have sold short reports teaching some of it and I know hardly anybody puts it into action. My first WSO back a few years ago showed exactly how I was averaging over $500 a month for like 6 straight months with one simple $30 ad for a viral $40 report. I gave them everything including title, copy and paste text for the ad and opt in template to build their list, etc.

All they had to do was pay the $30 for the ad and insert what I gave them and I think I ended up and had 3 people take action on it and become my competition with my same system. That was 3 out of several hundred people and I made a point to tell them don't underestimate the power of a simple idea and process.

There is money to be made in simple ideas, people just don't do it for some stupid reason. It bothers me because I see people fail all the time that don't have to if they just acted on the simple things they overlook.

Maybe, just maybe, someone will read this thread and do something simple for a change.

    • Ahhh...beautiful. Simple and effective (I use them also).

Once you've got this down on auto-pilot and make it effective, THEN go and add more if you want to.
    • Finally learning this

Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication....or at least somebody else says so.

  • Good insight.
  • @John -- Definitely. Think you hit the nail on the head.

I try to be like the guy on the basketball team who has 1 easy move he uses every time... it ain't pretty, but he puts up 25 points a game.

Take 1 simple tactic that works the best for you and do it over, and over, and over, and over, and o...

You could make a whole business out of 1 simple tactic.
  • Hi I am glad I am not the only one who feels this way about simplicity.

Taking it a step further I would even suggest that many of us would go further if we simplified our businesses.

For example instead of spinning many plates how about working on one strategy that has worked until you have abosolutely maximised income an profits before moving on to another business idea?

    • Internet Marketing can be a very simple business if people
don't get distracted by chasing too many complex methods.

The challenge is that there are too many people looking for
the complex 'solution' rather than actually applying the obvious
      and proven strategies.

I like Ken McCarthy's saying on this...

"If you have a choice between simple and complex, always
      choose simple."

Most successful Internet Marketers are doing very, very
simple basics over and over again.

E.g. Build a List > Send Content and Offers > Make Sales

Don't get your knickers in a twist unnecessarily.

      Dedicated to your success,

      Shaun

    • Thats what I try and teach people about CPA and it applies to all IM as well.

Most people who have learned about CPA for even a few weeks know enough to do six figures already, they just need to start taking some serious action. When I started making money it was literally "so easy a caveman can do it" type stuff, business and maketing 101.

People try and find shortcuts before even trying something because they think there is some secret sauce all the big guys know that they dont. THey are right, the big guys know how to implement information, basic information.

If you focus on the basics and work harder than everybody else, you will do just fine. Thats my philosophy at least

    Thanks for the great post.

Seriously, I have made some big money, though in the real offline world, through simple or insignificant methods. Before my friends who never believed that money could come out of it knew what happened, I have made my money and walked away.

Now, they have joined the "too-simple-to-do" business and messed everything up for themselves because it is no more as simple as it used to be.

The problem is that some folks think that the more complex a business model is, the more money it brings to you if you invest in it.

    It doesn't work that way.
  • This is extremely interesting, and I've been thinking about this a lot, because I have lost count of all the courses I have bought through the years.

I am convinced that if I had only written ONE article a day for the same number or years I've
been searching for the next big thing , I would have been able to retire (thanks to the passive
    income) several years ago.

Too much info has killed the success of an untold number of internet marketers. It creates information overload, despair and it's draining your energy, stopping you from taking action.

I personally decided on ONE strategy a while ago, and I will follow that one strategy and even eventually phase out my video creation service.

    • I am definitely with you ... more action doing simple things that are effective is a much better look than trying to find the Golden Goose.

  • The problem is that most people don't want to do the work involved. They tell themselves that its too easy, if it really worked everyone would do it. Then when they see harder strategies, they might start, but never finish because it is too much work.

Most people want money to fall in their lap. I am thankful for the serious learners here who are willing to try stuff and report back to the rest of us. I've found that this isn't really that hard, it just takes patience and hard work.
  • Hey, I am new to Internet marketing and I am just barely learning about all these different methods so it is good to know that I don't have to get into all of that complicated stuff that I see everywhere. I'll definitely be on the lookout for any simple methods that bring great results.
  • This is so true, people (newbies especially) are always looking for some secret whiz-bang loophole that allows them to circumvent the system and make money without doing what is normally required. While loopholes like that may open up from time to time, they inevitably get closed up very quickly, and then you start running around like a chicken with its head cut off searching for the next great loophole and "trick" that will generate easy profits.

This is no way to run a real honest-to-goodness business that generates predictable income for you every month. The truth of the matter is that there isn't any big IM secret out there that no one knows about. The real issue is that much of the work is typically tedious, repetitious and "unglamorous" (though profitable over time if you do it consistently), but the newbie doesn't want to hear about it - they want the quick and easy riches.
  • The general consensus is more is better, or that fancier is better.

Stick with the basics. Not each day, but each minute of each hour. Over time these seemingly insignificant acts add up in a big way.

    • I think that the best methods are simple. If things get excessively complicated, it creates confusion.

As Ryan suggests, step by step, with consistency and patience, you will reach your goal.

  • Unfortunately i have a problem with simplicity. I start with simple plan but as i dig further into it, i think and i find new ideas and keep working on them. And eventually i find myself in an never ending project.

However, that was before, i overcame it somewhat and now always try to put a fence somewhere where its sufficient.
  • The simple approach is the best approach and this applies to everywhere in general and IM in particular.
  • I love seeing something so simple that it's elegant. People like to show how smart or clever they are, but simple= money.

  • KISS = Keep It Simple Smart!

"If it were easy, everyone would do it" has been a part of my personal philosophy for a long time, but only in the realm of overcoming obstacles and other hard things in life. It's been a motivator for me to overcome and work through life's less pleasant circumstances.

I think one's own creativity and perception is a big part of why that statement is both true and untrue, depending on its application, at the same time.

Ah, the simple beauty and elegance of such paradoxes!
  • Definitely, lets not make it harder than it needs to be!
  • Simple is always better for me because there's less to go wrong!
  • I just learned something new about twitter and the person claimed to make six figures a month on this social networking site! I hated this idea and pushed it aside as rubbish. But I can't know the truth unless I tried at least one of his methods. I guess humans don't believe in the FREE tool rule because they're too easy to use. Simple is often ignored information.
  • I really adhere to the belief of simplicity. Simplify, simplify, simplify! The reason why things are stressful is because we make things so complicated these days.
  • I think one thing to point out is that SIMPLE doesnt mean SAME. Simple doesnt mean do the same thing as everybody else, simple jsut means focus on the basics.

Most of my experience is in the CPA world where this especially holds true, but its relevant for all marketing. Marketing is based on very simple concepts. Lose touch of those simple base concepts and your campaign will likely be a disaster.

Simple and creative can go hand in hand. Keep the concept strategy simple and then spice it up with a bit of creativity...not difficulty, creativity. Thats all you really need to do to make some nice income with CPA and most marketing paths.

    • I would say for the first year of my internet marketing career I made more money than most CPA marketers but knew much much less than they did. I literally focused on little tiny very simple things than worked just a little bit and repeated them so many times and in so many ways that it al added up to be a nice income.

Staying simple is fine...particularly if you are newer
  • simplicity is an art to be admired
  • I love this post! When processes are simple, they are usually more efficient! Save time and make more money, what's better than that?
