The Power Of Pause

Frequent breaks are a key to my success.

Pulling back on the hour keeps me light about my work, which allows me to attract situations favorable to my goal with greater ease. Taking 5-10 minutes to observe your feelings helps you to stay aligned with your goals.

It takes discipline and sheer willpower to pull back when I feel anxious or extremely uncomfortable but it's always worth it.

How many breaks do you take throughout your work day?

  • you mean how much do I work throughout my day between breaks? lol...

Sometimes I forget what time it is and literally hours have passed by without a break... it's not good, but I try to go usually an hour to an hour and a half without being interrupted or breaks before standing up stretching or just walking around the block
  • I aim to take a break once an hour. During which I will jump around a bit to get my heart rate up, do some mobility drills, deep breathe, drink water, and have a small bit of fruit.

I use the time to also do some visualization in my mind to keep me on task.

Doing this goes a long way for me. Not doing it usually results in a lower quality of life during my work period. I am flexible about the time, though. I will take it ten minutes later or early to avoid stopping in the middle of something.
  • I take a 30-minute break both in the morning and afternoon. And a one-hour break at noon. This could give me ample time to regenerate by eating light meals, rest my eyes and meditate a little. Straining one's self will just lead to unable to fulfill any task.
  • Not nearly as many as I should!
Its so easy to get caught up with the day's issues and forget to pause and refocus! I will need to do this more often!
  • This is interesting because I've been thinking about this exact topic lately. How I just need to pause and be still more often. I pretty much never take breaks and I know it's not healthy. I recently found a Mac application called "Time Out" that reminds you to take breaks every hour.
  • I take one break but it's usually about 90 minutes.I feel it's good to have a longer break because it breaks the day up nicely.
  • Good stuff guys, thanks for sharing.

Breaks help us to observe, and observation is a rare trait. It's simple to get caught up in situations and make low energy choices when you don't pull back and observe frequently.

  • Good post! Ahh yeah our attention span can lasts so long.. I think break it's so important to take after a few hours of staring or working in front of computer... it's much more refreshing and you can get so much more done once you come back after recharging your energy!
