What stops people from achieving

In my never ending study of effective people, the application of learned elements in my life, and my ongoing cycle of both, I've also become quite conscious of what stops most people.

For about six months straight, everyday, I studied the people around me and their language patterns.

Wanna know what I found?

Most of them think that high performance material (personal development books) is hoakey. In other words it's some happy go lucky positive thinking crap. Some of it may be, but there are some very effective personal development books out there.

The truth really is, high performing entrepreneurs and effective human beings have different operating systems in their minds. They have certain elements of the mind, high performance traits, and principles in place that facilitate the accomplishment of their outcomes easily. This absolutely comes from reading high performance material (not necessarily self help books, but anything geared toward helping people get great results in their lives), and taking it to the next and most crucial step (the one most people don't do) and that is the APPLICATION of learned principles into life.

The elements in books about success, if burned into your mind, are like engines that drive you to your results rapidly! What stops most people, is this idea that it's all some lame crap that doesn't matter! Trust me, high performance material changes your mind, literally. Thanks for reading!

  • Ryan,

Was it that they think the success books are crap, or their fear of failure that stopped people from achieving.

You can hate being sold to at seminars or thinking that "Think and Grow Rich" is bs and still be successful.

However, if you aren't pulling the trigger or are too scared of the unknown to take the first step, you're guaranteed to achieve nothing but getting older.

    Good post!
  • I think what they find so hard to believe is that it cannot be that easy and that the responsibility rests whole with them. It’s a hard thing to accept that you are unsuccessful and it’s ALL your own doing. They need someone to blame and the self-help books through the responsibility directly into their laps.

I truly believe that those that refuse to believe and make fun of those books and CD do so because they cannot stand being held responsible for their lot in life.

    • It's very true, and frustrating to see when people just don't think they can change their lives for the better.

Sure, there are some self-help people who preach a heck of a lot more than they practice who make the whole idea look bad. But really, what other explanation IS there for high-performance achievers to get the results they get?! Being who they are is HOW they get their results, and everyone else has that potential, as well. If you look at the actions people take based on the motivations that drive them, everything works out, one way or another.
    • Very true. I used to think like this.

  • Too many people have come from having nothing to being some of the riches people in the world. There may be the occasional “crook” that has gotten ahead by despicable means, but the majority have do so through hard work and the techniques we talk about here.
  • I agree 100% with all of your responses! Thanks for interacting with this thread, this rocks!
  • Precisely put! Thanks for replying.
  • Lack of self confidence and fear of failure perhaps causes many people stop achieving. In the game of life the one who believes is the one who deserves success.
  • How true LD! These people look for any excuse to hide behind or someone to blame instead of realizing that THEY and they alone are responsible for their success and failure. Sure there are obstacles in your way, people, circumstances, life itself, but YOU are the one responsible for overcoming and succeeding.

All of us here realize that it is up to each and every one of us to succeed and that sitting around waiting to win the lottery that we never play just isn't going to happen.

We know WE have to take control of our own life and then WE will all succeed.
  • As for my example,I've lackings of self confidence which keep me behind.I had read a lots of book on "How to grow up your confidence"...But it's all are crap.I find no result. Then i started meditation and its work for me like a medicine.

    • Nice! That's specifically because it literally connects the CEO (frontal area of your brain) with everything else.

In other words, it's easier to control your brain when you meditate.. you literally train yourself at a neurological level.

I did an MP3 on the psychology of Internet Marketing.. in which we talk about confidence and the mental components of Internet Marketing.
  • Very well put! And yes indeed, Law of Success is one of the greatest
  • Great replies. So, in summation, some self help stuff is all about "just be positive," and some of it is very high performance material. Anything about Neuro Linguistic Programming is very effective. Success Principles by Jack Canfield was pretty good and all of Napoleon Hill's stuff rocked!
