  • Taking Risk and stepping out of your comfort zone
are the key to your success In IM..

  • What do you mean by risk??

There is a level of risk in everything we do....but If you are more specific you might get a useful reply
  • There are two ways to expose yourself to risk in IM.

    1) Financial risk - If you don't plan out your spending and purchase services, programs, and knowledge that aren't really needed you can easily experience financial woes.

    2) Legal risk - This is something that is a bit easier to avoid. If you are willing to break the law to get a short term gain you better be prepared to face the consquences should you get caught.

Just work smart and hard and you should get to a point where you are living a comfortable life doing this IM stuff.

    • Sorry to ask friend that what do you mean by IM?

Instant Messaging or Internet Marketing ?

If Internet marketing then i agree with foulmouth. He says.......

And if Instant Messaging then don't use yahoo messenger anymore. Skype is quite good enough for this purpose
  • Risk are basically everywhere. Even if you are doing a 9 to 5 job, there's a risk to be retrenched when your company is not doing well.

Is a matter of how you plan and get yourself organized.
  • It is better to risk starving to death then surrender. If you give up on your dreams, what's left?

  • Like they said, it's really worth the risk!

    • The risk is not starting!

Consider a journey by car from London to Edinburgh...

      At night!

You cannot see the way, you know it's there and your lights
will shine ahead for you a few hundred yards/metres. You'll
not see the route in full, but who cares?

Business requires planning, just like the journey, but you'll
not know everything until you start.

      So... Start!

      And finally...

Success is not the destination, but the journey.

      So, have fun too!

      Cheers

      Geoff

  • You already got your answer, so I'm not going to repeat what everyone else said.
I really like what Geoff had to say.
Listen to his advice and start doing something asap!

Don't look for that shortcut, because you'll never find it.
Usually beginners wait for everything to be perfect before they start or they look for a shortcut which is going to make them rich.

The truth is - there is no such shortcut. The sooner you realize that and the sooner you start taking risks and failing - the sooner you'll succeed!

Don't be afraid of failing. You should look forward to failure because after failure always comes success. If you don't give up, that is.

    Best of luck!
  • If you don't have the knowledge then it is a big risk in your venture.

    • Risk is the art of not knowing what you are doing, who's risker someone investing $1,000 who has no idea what they are doing or someone who's investing $1,000,000 and is an expert in that field?

I know which one I'd pick.
  • Yes... sitting in front of a computer all day is not good for your health

    • To get ahead in IM, you need to invest money. Unless you know what you are doing, it is very easy to lose money. But as with anything, if you are prudent and careful, you can very easily minimize losses and turn it into a profit. As already said, the biggest risk is that you don't take a chance and go for it. As Nike would say 'Just do it'.
    • True. Anything electronic gives off frequencies that mess with your body and can affect how you think.

Plus you're at risk of getting carpel tunnel (sp?) from all that typing and mousing,
and you risk getting a big butt from too much sitting. ;-)
  • Thanks everyone for the advice. As compared to a 8 to 5 job, which one is more riskier?
    • [2] replies

    • lol are you serious

Ok If you test pillows and matresses then IM is riskier...

If you work as a stuntman then probably IM is less riskier.

If you really need to ask these questions you probably won't enjoy IM.
    • Well, this is going to depend on how stable your 8-5 job is. On the other hand, the main motivation behind people taking risks with IM is the prospect for freedom and significantly greater income.

Let's take someone you probably know quite well. Ewen Chia from your country was working as a marketing peon, but decided to get into IM (he worked 3 hours every day at IM for over 3 years while still working his regular job, before he finally made a breakthrough) - I don't think he'd have the ability to travel the world, pursue his passion for music and make millions if he was still at his marketing job right now.

  • That is a good brain teaser. Some people just think it is safer to go back to their 8-5 job.

    • There is some risk in everything that you do in life.
  • Yes there are risks in IM - but anything you involves risks or foregoing something.

    For example:
    * If you drive a car or ride a bike, there's a risk you may be involved in an accident
    * When you are first hired for a job, there's a risk that it may not be the right workplace for you
    * If you cook, there's a chance that you may cut yourself with a knife or have burns (all good Chefs have burn marks!)

    It's all relative.

The trick is to make calculated risks.
  • Yes, there are risks. Risks of getting ripped off over and over again but there is a lot of good information available to help you make money online. You can get a lot of good advice here. Read as much as possible and ask a lot of questions before investing in anything.
  • Of course there are risks! But remember.

"He who hasn't failed in life, Hasn't tried anything new"
    or
    "He who dares, wins"
  • We take risks every moment we breathe. Its the risk takers that will rule the world.
  • I take a good 10 risks in IM a day. Every time I put a WSO out it's a risk, I've made hundreds and I've made nothing.

Everything and anything worthwhile requires a little risk.
  • Yes, IM is very risky. I'll tell you something even riskier than IM: working in a job that you hate for the rest of your life with the hope of getting a good retirement when you are like 60 or 70 (depending on your country) so that you can start enjoying life as anyone deserves it, and probably dying before you reach that age because of a heart attack (due to heavy work stress) or because you were sick and your medical plan (paid by your employeer) was very low quality and they couldn't treat you as you needed.

If you happen to reach retirement age, probably the laws have changed so much that you no longer qualify for the retirement money.

In conclusion, Yes, IM is risky

  • Risks are everywhere, we'll all face them one day. For IM there are risks, like everyone already said, you can lose a lot of money doing it if you don't do it right and there are legal rights as well.

Just take it slow and make sure to be safe. Also if you can get someone who's well versed in IM, you might want them to come by and help you out.
  • This thread started out wierd.

If you quit your job to do IM than yes that's a risk. Trying IM while having a full time job, you just risk time.
  • Possibly the biggest risk to take would be to take no risk at all.
  • I don't think that it will be risk in using. Why IM is made? For using .... than use it... Who care? Risk is everywhere.
  • People ARE out to get you on the internet. If you are not careful they can, and will, take your money and run. Deceit can come from both small and big internet businesses alike.

Minimizing Internet Marketing Risk - Quick Tips

    -Minimize campaign duration
    -Minimize campaign size
-Understand the fine details in your contract
-The contract should account for "bad leads" or invalid sales
-Engage in performance-based agreements whenever possible
-Share resources with a sister/partner company
-Develop a rigorous sale/lead validation process and anti-fraud mechanisms
    -Integrate detailed campaign tracking software
  • Risks are produced by the decisions YOU make!

For example... If you don't have much money, but decide to invest a whole load of money into a PPC campaign... then yes!... the risk is huge!

So my advise would be; carry out Internet Marketing that falls within your means! and scale upwards!
  • There is yet another risk. If a person starts promoting his websites with articles and begins to write them dozens and dozens a day, the quality of such literature couldn't possibly be any good. And then, if someone who knows him, makes a Google search on his name and finds out what complete senseless rubbish he has posted, it could turn out quite embarrassing.
  • Well I have been doing IM for a couple months now and I chose the wrong mentor (thats risk for you). Choose who you learn from wisely.
  • yes, of course, everything has risks, but what kinda risk are you talking about ?
