The Importance of Social Networking

Hey guys,

Just wanted to thank the warrior forum for the opportunities it has put in front of my way. I've never used Skype in my life, but two months after opening my account I've met great people and developed 7 potential projects. I've spoken to editors, product launch managers, an Emmy winner, an IM big shot, a mother of 3, and a guy who i'm helping out.

The thing I wanted to share with you is that you should never underestimate the importance of social networking. Even tough we live in a digitalized world, no machine can replace a human being in terms of relationships and networking (regardless how many Androids, iOS, Spiders, Crawlers, Search engines or others are out there). A human being can understand what your talking about and RELATE. You can't do that with an algorithm.

So, start searching, speak to people you've never met and bedazzle yourself in the process of getting to know someone (even tough my mom used to said never speak to strangers, she never said anything about Skype). Just keep in mind that there are some risks, and don't share too much private info.

This experience has helped me realize the importance of social interactions. I'm now using Mark Zuckerberg giant and i opened an account with the blue bird.

  • Max, you are right on! We who work from home must get involved in social networking in order to meet other like-minded people. I don't think we can really build an online business without social networking.

    I'm amazed at how many people now follow me on Twitter (I have three accounts, but the one regarding elder care has a huge following). Many of the people I've met on Twitter and FB have become friends and supporters.

    We cannot succeed online if we stay in a vacuum. Just coming out here on WF was a huge step for me and I didn't start posting until recently. We need people no matter whether we are on a social network, a forum, or on Skype.

  • I agree with you.Lets say I have twitter followers like 1000 and from these active is like 300 then if i post my link with my product or website.Almost in 1 or 2 seconds my website visits 12 -200 people.Social sites is super in these days.

    Skype is more like a platform for chatting/calling/video or voice calls, or like a chat script.

    I never thought I'll still see them after graduation..

  • i like social media. Warrior forum is a social networking site that is extremely help . I am however , concerned that social media can be a waste of time if you do it wrong
  • Social Networking is the best to get connected with other people in same or different field. It is very effective way to express your self because people like you due to your work and help which provide them through networking.
  • How very true. Although we work online, we do not and should not live in a vacuum. You are correct in saying that "...no machine can replace a human being in terms of relationships." In fact, I believe BECAUSE we are on the Internet, we need to more than ever connect with others.

    • I understand the importance of social media, but I wonder if anyone else finds it as difficult as me. I just cannot seem to socialise on facebook for instance, I just don't know what to say. I just don't find it easy.

  • When Social networking sites are utilized just the way they should be, then there shouldn't be any problem.. but when used as a tool to steal information or some other unethical activities then that's really annoying. I've heard from some colleagues about their Facebook accounts getting hacked or something..and I was like "really?" :confused:

    There's Privacy settings and You can even customize the "view settings" so it is imperative to provide only the information that you think is necessary.

    But all in all, the advantages that we get from all these networking sites and the opportunity to meet people from different walks of life are overwhelming!
