  • What an excellent proverb to start the day. Thanks!
  • Thanks for sharing this beautiful thought.
  • Sort of like before you throw any words that might hurt other people, try to think twice or even thrice, take time ..take time... How inspiring this one is!
  • Love the story! It's so true about calming down your mind through time.. I really enjoy buddha teaching and many of his principles.
  • I'm with you on this.. the whole religion is pretty impressive.

    • This can be described as resistance, when you have resistance things will become worst, but when you let it go accept what it is and focus on what you want you will be amazed of the results you will see.
  • This is lovely. thanks for sharing. Thai people have a saying:

    Jai Yen Yen na.

it means to cool your heart. when you have problems or encounter some difficulty in your life, first cool your heart before you respond.
  • Indeed, some times you do really hard effort to search success... yet it is running behind you. Thanks for sharing.
  • thanks for those excellent words.
  • Though I am not a Buddha believer but I still impress this bunch of quote, really inspiring.
  • That's a beautiful thought seriously. I mean he did not spend such a long time for nothing.
  • Good ones! Thank you for sharing
  • Lovely Thought! Thank you!

Reminds me of something similar and it is a motto that I live by.

"Why worry? If you can do something about it, there is no need to worry. If you can't do something about it, there is no point in worrying."

    • What a beautiful reminder for us to rest and relax when things around us seem to be out of control. A lot of time, after a few days or a week of letting things calm down, your perspective about it change and everything is clean and clear again.

      Thanks for sharing it.

  • Perhaps my favorite saying :

"There are two mistakes one can make along the road to truth. Not going all the way, and not starting." Buddha

I find this problem is the most common among internet marketers in general. There is a certain lack of action. "Truth" can be many things. In essence, all things are paths to various truths. One must start if they wish to find what is at the end.

  • That's true. A troubled mind can not create unless it's given the time to feel free. That's why meditation works miracles. Like throwing a rock into the ocean. The water will wave heavily, but it'll also settle down again in time.
  • Such a profound thought, amazingly we miss it so easily. Keep your mind focused on the goal instead of occupied with other useless thoughts.

The proverb for this month on my Buddha calender says:

    peace of mind"

  • Thanks for sharing sucha beautiful thought, keep up the good work!!!
  • Hi guys,

Just sharing another meaning quote I came across that is in line with those on this thread. I found this useful in helping me think out of the box or simply easing my mind sometimes.

""For things to reveal themselves to us, we need to be ready to abandon our views about them."
  • That's beautiful thank you. Dicipline is definately something I struggle with.
  • I'm a Buddhist and very happy about sharing this thought!
  • What a lovely post!!!!!thanks for sharing...
  • These are really niche statements by Lord Buddha
  • Just let your mind flow calmly and you will calm too. That's easier than trying to calm down with willpower.

    Thanks for the lesson.
  • Worth reading Thanks for sharing...

Yes, I would love to apply this personally
  • With peace of mind and heart, we will be able to live life well

Make our business successful and relate to others with enthusiasm.

  • Hi there,

Tears happy to hear about Buddhists here.

There is another Dharma jewel that gives you chills:

The quote is adapted from a Sutra.

"Train in acts of merit that bring long lasting bliss. I am cognizant that having long performed acts of merit I long experienced pleasant, desirable results. Having developed a mind of good will for seven years, than for seven aeons of cosmic contraction and expansion I didn't return to this world. For thirty-six times I was the ruler of gods. For hundreds of times I was a king, conqueror of the four corners of the Earth to say nothing about the times I was a local king.
Then the thought occurred to me of what action is the result that now I have such power and might? It is generosity, self-control and restraint."

  • Thanks for sharing that words of wisdom that will surely help us in our daily life. Time always heals things; you just need to settle it down before doing something that will make you regret it afterwards. As what fellow warriors have already stated above, a peace of mind works better than a troubled mind. I totally agree also with what have been said earlier that our mind is like the lake as what Buddha have shared to us. We just need to settle things that are clouding our mind before we make some judgement and will try to speak our mind.
Think before we open our mouth is also helpful to our life, since before we could possibly hurt other people by our words, we need to really think of it thoroughly before we let those words fly from our mouth.
Thank you for sharing to us what Buddha the enlightened had shared to his disciple.
  • Yes, this is nice. A simple story but full of wisdom. Reminded me of Bruce Lees Water Full and Empty Cup story.
    Nice one.. Thanks

  • Really great post to share. Peace of mind is something which is actually very necessary to get success and to overcome the problems.
  • This thoughts in themselves calm down. Thanks!
  • Sleeping Well in the Cold Forest

On one occasion the Blessed One was staying near Alavi on a spread of leaves by a cattle track in a simsapa forest. Then Hatthaka of Alavi, out roaming & rambling for exercise, saw the Blessed One sitting on a spread of leaves by the cattle track in the simsapa forest. On seeing him, he went to him and, on arrival, having bowed down to him, sat to one side. As he was sitting there he said to the Blessed One, "Lord, I hope the Blessed One has slept in ease."
"Yes, young man. I have slept in ease. Of those in the world who sleep in ease, I am one."

"But cold, lord, is the winter night. The 'Between-the-Eights'[1] is a time of snowfall. Hard is the ground trampled by cattle hooves. Thin is the spread of leaves. Sparse are the leaves in the trees. Thin are your ochre robes. And cold blows the Verambha wind. Yet still the Blessed One says, 'Yes, young man. I have slept in ease. Of those in the world who sleep in ease, I am one.'"

"In that case, young man, I will question you in return. Answer as you see fit. Now, what do you think: Suppose a householder or householder's son has a house with a gabled roof, plastered inside & out, draft-free, with close-fitting door & windows shut against the wind. Inside he has a horse-hair couch spread with a long-fleeced coverlet, a white wool coverlet, an embroidered coverlet, a rug of kadali-deer hide, with a canopy above, & red cushions on either side. And there a lamp would be burning, and his four wives, with their many charms, would be attending to him. Would he sleep in ease, or not? Or how does this strike you?"

"Yes, lord, he would sleep in ease. Of those in the world who sleep in ease, he would be one."
"But what do you think, young man. Might there arise in that householder or householder's son any bodily fevers or fevers of mind born of passion so that — burned with those passion-born fevers — he would sleep miserably?"
    "Yes, lord."
"As for those passion-born fevers — burned with which the householder or householder's son would sleep miserably — that passion has been abandoned by the Tathagata, its root destroyed, made like a palmyra stump, deprived of the conditions of development, not destined for future arising. Therefore he sleeps in ease.
"Now, what do you think, young man. Might there arise in that householder or householder's son any bodily fevers or fevers of mind born of aversion so that — burned with those aversion-born fevers — he would sleep miserably?"
    "Yes, lord."
"As for those aversion-born fevers — burned with which the householder or householder's son would sleep miserably — that aversion has been abandoned by the Tathagata, its root destroyed, made like a palmyra stump, deprived of the conditions of development, not destined for future arising. Therefore he sleeps in ease.
"Now, what do you think, young man. Might there arise in that householder or householder's son any bodily fevers or fevers of mind born of delusion so that — burned with those delusion-born fevers — he would sleep miserably?"
    "Yes, lord."
"As for those delusion-born fevers — burned with which the householder or householder's son would sleep miserably — that delusion has been abandoned by the Tathagata, its root destroyed, made like a palmyra stump, deprived of the conditions of development, not destined for future arising. Therefore he sleeps in ease.

    * Tathagata is the name by which The Buddha (The Blessed One) refers to himself.

    • I am a Buddhist and this is just a single thought of millions of Buddha words..
Lord Buddha is the greatest human being who born in this world.
he was a man like us.
he achieve the best position a human being can achieve.
he died as a human being.
And we just have to follow him not to live according to religious rules.
BUDDHISM IS AN EDUCATION, NOT A RELIGION OR A PHILOSOPHY

Let things be as they are, seems so simple and yet so hard; the wisdom and beauty of the natural, I love these stories! another one:

    The Real Miracle

When Bankei was preaching at Ryumon temple, a Shinshu priest, who believed in salvation through repetition of the name of the Buddha of Love, was jealous of his large audience and wanted to debate with him.

Bankei was in the midst of a talk when the priest appeared, but the fellow made such a disturbance that Bankei stopped his discourse and asked about the noise.

"The founder of our sect," boasted the priest, "had such miraculous powers that he held a brush in his hand on one bank of the river, his attendant held up a paper on the other bank, and the teacher wrote the holy name of Amida through the air. Can you do such a wonderful thing?"

Bankei replied lightly: "Perhaps your fox can perform that trick, but that is not the manner of Zen. My miracle is that when I feel hungry I eat, and when I feel thirsty I drink."

When things go wrong in our life and we encounter difficult situations we tend to regard the situation itself as the problem, but in reality whatever problems we experience come from the side of the mind. If we were to respond to difficult situations with a positive or peaceful mind they would not be problems for us; indeed we may even come to regard them as challenges or opportunities for growth and development. Problems arise only if we respond to difficulties with a negative state of mind.

  • In the search for truth there are certain questions that are not important.
Of what material is the universe constructed? Is the universe eternal?
Are there limits or not to the universe? What is the ideal form of organization
for human society? If one were to postpone his or her search and practice
for Enlightenment until such questions were solved,
one would die before he or she found the path.

    Ask me about Power Partnering
  • Be a lamp to yourself. Be your own confidence.
Hold to the truth within yourself, as to the only truth.
  • People should first direct themselves in the ways they should go.
Only then should they instruct others.
  • Yeah it is hard to give your mind a rest. Meditation is a good solution for that. Thanks for the share!
  • "Some people," said Buddha, the master,
"have accused me of uttering these words:
'When one attains the release called the Beautiful, and abides therein,
at such a time he or she considers the whole universe ugly.'

"But I never said those words. This is what I do say:
When one attains the release called the Beautiful,
at such a time he or she knows in truth what Beauty is."

  • Believe nothing, O monks, merely because you have been told it . . .
or because it is traditional, or because you yourself have imagined it.
Do not believe what your teacher tells you merely out of respect for the teacher.
But whatsoever, after due examination and analysis,
you find to be conducive to the good, the benefit,
the welfare of all beings--that doctrine believe and cling to,
and take it as your guide
  • Great thought. This is an excellent post for strengthening the mind. Keep up the good work warriors.
  • Have confidence in the truth, although you may not be able to comprehend it,
although you may suppose its sweetness to be bitter,
although you may shrink from it at first. Trust in the Truth. . . .
Have faith in the Truth and live it.

  • The secret of health for both mind and body is not to mourn for the past,
nor to worry about the future, but to live in the present moment wisely and earnestly
  • Just as treasures are uncovered from the earth, so virtue appears
from good deeds, and wisdom appears from a pure and peaceful mind.
To walk safely through the maze of human life, one needs the light
of wisdom and the guidance of virtue.
  • The fault of others is easily perceived, but that of one's self is difficult to perceive; a man winnows his neighbor's faults like chaff, but his own fault he hides, as a cheat hides an unlucky cast of the die.
  • On life's journey faith is nourishment,
virtuous deeds are a shelter, wisdom is
the light by day and right mindfulness
is the protection by night. If one lives
a pure life, nothing can destroy him or her
  • Once a person is caught by belief in a doctrine, one loses
all one's freedom. When one becomes dogmatic, that person
believes his or her doctrine is the only truth and that all other
doctrines are heresy. Disputes and conflicts all arise from
narrow views. They can extend endlessly, wasting precious time
and sometimes even leading to war. Attachment to views is the
greatest impediment to the spiritual path. Bound to narrow
views, one becomes so entangled that it is no longer possible
to let the door of truth open.
  • When we forget the real reason we are living for,
the worldliness of life becomes like quicksand that sucks you into a spiritual vacuum.
When that happens, we live less and less; we merely stay alive.
We are what we think. All that we are arises with our thoughts.
With our thoughts, we make the world.

  • Once Buddha was travelling with a few of his followers. While they were passing a lake, Buddha told one of his disciples, "I am thirsty. Do get me some water from the lake."

The disciple walked up to the lake. At that moment, a bullock cart started crossing through the lake. As a result, the water became very muddy and turbid. The disciple thought, "How can I give this muddy water to Buddha to drink?"

So he came back and told Buddha, "The water in there is very muddy. I don't think it is fit to drink."

After about half an hour, again Buddha asked the same disciple to go back to the lake.

The disciple went back, and found that the water was still muddy. He returned and informed Buddha about the same.

After sometime, again Buddha asked the same disciple to go back.

This time, the disciple found the mud had settled down, and the water was clean and clear. So he collected some water in a pot and brought it to Buddha.

Buddha looked at the water, and then he looked up at the disciple and said," See what you did to make the water clean. You let it be, and the mud settled down on its own ând you have clear water.

Your mind is like that too ! When it is disturbed, just let it be. Give it a little time. It will settle down on its own. You don't have to put in any effort to calm it down. It will happen. It is effortless."
