Am I charging to little or to much?

I've been doing wordpress installations for some local artist and I have been charging $150. Someone recommended I drop it down to $75. All i really do is the header/banner design, add plugins, and buy the domain name. I'm stuck right now because I can't make up my mind and I don't want to short change myself. This has been a major set back because I want to start marketing locally this weekend and still can't make up my mind what to charge. Any help would be a blessing because I'm new to this, don't ant to over charge my customers, and don't want to short change myself.

I suggest you drop it down to $75. This way you're services will be available financially to more clients. Thats just my two cents though. If you were creating a product now, I'd say raise the price, create a few videos on how to install each thing then give them the plugins so they can do it on their own. But since you're doing a service keep it at $75.

I think that you should stick with $150. That is not a lot in my view.

At least you are not charging $500 for this service and $150 is OK.

Or maybe when you make that offer to someone and they tell you that it is too much for them, offer them the $75 offer. If they still can't afford it, then you know that they are not serious after all.

$150.00 sounds reasonable to me, I have seen some that charge up to $500.00 for the same thing, and like talfighel said, you can always negotiate a price lower than $150.00 if they say they can't afford that much.
Any work can be good work if it leads to a good reference

I also do a ton of Word Press Sites. $150 is not too much to ask for your service. Remember, they are paying you to do the work and research that they may not have the time or initiative to do. This is what they are paying for. You are the Expert.

At the same time you need to test the water with you clients and if they can provide good references while you are building your name and business then absolutely drop the price for your client. It will pay off in the long run to have clients who will back up your work.

$150.00 seems average to me but some people still can't afford that. Try lowering it to like $80 because you would get more clients that way. If you are not happy with the weekly/monthly earnings from $80 per job then go back to $150

I think you're doing alright with that pricing - start rebranding yourself, and you'll be worth even more than that.

I say test the waters, stick with 150 and if you see that its not getting a lot of response then lower it. Just as long as you are providing a valuable service and its quality then people will pay. Also you could provide the $75 service if the client will provide a testimonial.

    • I do a lot of WP stuff. I wouldn't drop your price. How about raising your price but add more value?

Remember if you double your prices and lose half your customers, you're better off.

There's a story that came to mind when I read your post..

Picasso was in a park when a woman approached him and asked him to draw a portrait of her. Picasso agreed and quickly sketches her.

After handing the sketch to her, she is pleased with the likeness and asks how much she owed to him. Picasso replies $5,000. The woman screamed, “but it took you only five minutes!”.

“No, Madam, it took me all my life”, replied Picasso.
I think you should increase your price and keep on increasing it with every new customer.

I think $150 is not too much for the work but i would advice you to agree with the client if the client is willing to pay $150 then you are good to go.

I know $150 is acceptable for the job but you could like have 2-3 prices. Example:Basic $75, Inter $150 and Custom $???-. That way, customers have more options.

    hope this helps

Just about everyone can afford $150.00 so you should stick with that price. It's like the old saying goes, if someone seriously wants to buy something they will find the money for it.

Give them an option. Options open up avenues. Tell them it's 150 upfront or they can pay 75 dollars and 20 dollars a month for 6 months basically a monitoring fee. So in total they will pay $150.00 for the COMPLETE PAGE deal or they can pay $75.00 dollars upfront and $20 dollars a month for 6 months($75 + $120 = 195) this way you make profit and they only see 20 dollars a month. Options convert people.... You can even go much lower and tell them it's a monitoring fee... so if they want to keep it up then they will want to keep paying. Good luck and much success

Also remember just because they can't afford it doesn't mean they aren't serious. 4 years ago i'd go to a car dealership and be so passionate about wanting to get that $50,000 car, I WANTED IT... But that didn't mean I was less eager. I just didn't have the money. I bought the car cash when I got it and the same guy was there. That's passion. Money in small increments is much better than no money at all. 20 dollars a month from 60 customers is a good income for just setting up something once. Imagine 20 dollars times 1000 customers. There you go residual income. They need it up so they continue paying. Quick and simple.
