What is the first thing you do when you open your PC?

I think it's one of the critical question the answer to which we vary everyday.

It's fixed the first thing we do when we wake up like brushing our teeth, taking a bath, personal grooming, and getting off to work. But, when it comes to the first thing we do when we open our PC, we change the answers everyday. Ironically, our answers in this context decide our success or failure through our personal computers.

      Laughed out loud, I did...Funnee

Yes, the person who started this thread has possibly said it correctly for me tho.
You don't realize how undisciplined you are until a good question like that slaps you across your head!

      Hmmmnn, thanks for that.
      Next lesson learned.
I thought I was fairly ritualistic with it, but on closer examination, after looking at this guys quote above, I see I am not as disciplined as he, because I don't go back to bed!

  • Every time I open my PC is to update my anti-virus and scan my PC if there are unwanted programs that need to be quarantined or deleted. Then, check if there are new messages from my Email and sometimes will try to check my Face book for comments or updates. Then will check if there are any tasks that I will be doing at that day since I always place some "to do" task in my PC to keep me updated to my tasks since there are times that I tend to forget what I was going to do on that day.
I guess that is my usual activities every time I turn on my PC.

    • I'm happy to say that I no longer check my emails until evening. That's been one of my biggest stuff-ups & cause for many more hours on the net than was necessary.

So now I get the 'work' side of things out the way BEFORE i hit the emails that were so often keeping me from my 'progressive work'.

Now it only interrupts what time I spend with my wife in the evening ... Oh, that's right! ... She left me last week, so that's not even a concern any more.

    Works well.
  • I finish what i did last night

  • Well, I open my MacBook Pro...not my PC. Then, I check my emails and sales.

  • Seat down then Login. . Just kidding, Check out my emails and my facebook account.
  • Check emails.
  • Actually I have sort of a 'tick'. When I first open my computer, I do this:

    Alt + F2
    gnome-terminal <press enter>
    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get upgrade

I could let my computer update when it automatically checks for updates, but I just got into the habit of doing it manually.
  • Too much to list...

    1. Starts off with the metaphorical equivalent and mental preparation of subliminally dressing my mind with a "Neptunic Sharksuit" also known as;
    • Metal Mesh Shark Suit
    • Chain Mail Anti-Shark Suit
    • Steel Mesh Shark Suit
    2. Then I research...(observe the sharks, and study them very closely)

    3. From there I write for hours of my findings, while developing and designing a fortified business plan. (Or several actually)

    4. Finally, I check emails, Warrior Forums, Statistics, and ask myself...

"Where the hell has the time gone?"

    5. Rinse and repeat...(dive in for another day of surfing and fun!)

Much like dolphins I am a messy eater, and always seem to be surrounded by sharks...yet I remain un-threatened, and fascinated by their behavioral patterns.

All kidding aside...been working my 'flippers off' trying to locate an undiscovered shipwreck without going 'belly up'

Sorry, I was bored by the repetitive nature of the answers, and submerged into a deeper exploration of the visual translation, symbolically associated to the emotional rendition I feel each and every time I fire up the old beast!

    All the Best,

  • The first thing i used to do when i HAD a PC was wait the 15 minutes for it to load then put up a fight with a virus, malware attack or blue screen of death... sorry let me get back on track.

First thing I do when i turn on my Mac is check my todo/goals list that I created the night before in my iCal and I attack that immediately before checking emails or listening to my voicemails.

One of the biggest mistakes I used to make was to start my day reading my emails or listening to voicemails as I would then sometimes lose focus if i had to put out a fire or get distracted with a forward or video/article that one of my friends sent and that would foul up my creative morning, I want to attack the tasks at hand, that will produce the revenue and profits goals that i set for the day.

I used to read my emails, read the forwards, the joke of the day, check facebook, watch youtube and next thing i knew it was noon and i didnt get squat done and then i wondered why i was broke. I would then complain that internet marketing sucks and I would check monster.com and craigslist for hire ads...that was so 10 years ago (replace checking facebook with myspace and geocities pages).

I try to wipe off 3 of my main tasks/goals up until about lunch then I will check emails and deal with calls. Thankfully I run a very relaxed tight knit ship so usually there arent many distressed calls or emails but I found that I want to hit my 3 target goals first thing in the morning without any distractions, then once they are physically wiped off on the white board I will then focus on the day to day items and return calls and emails.

At the same time I might check my email to make sure everythings running smoothly but I don't think the first thing I should do (since I work at home) is work.
