Is it not time to declare war on debt? You hear everyone complaining how bad the economic is and how deep this county in in debt!

Finance management is not teach in School and that why people struggle so bad. Most people only watch TV and guess what TV tells you? To buy more stuff, because you should need it and it should make you feel good. Well, we must make now changes to save this country and the best is when every one starts now! Getting out of debt and building wealth, only then you will be powerful, but with debt you will live in fear and can't enjoin life.

Now let declare War on Debt and start in your own finance department. Get debt free as soon as possible and it will increase your income also.

1) Spend less than what is coming in! Buy only what you really need and not what you want. (only when you make so much money and can afford to spend as much as you want)

2) Pay off all your credit cards and don't use them! Only when you must use them for business and they are paid off before the month is over.

3) Get rid off things that cost you only money! Do you have a RV or Yacht and don't use it? Make an inventory about everything you have and for what you spend all your money. I bet you can see were you can make cuts and save money.

4) Save on Groceries! Don't go shopping because you feel like, go shopping when you need it. Make your shopping list and stick to it. Stay away from precooked or prepared food you will so much more, and think about all the chemicals they put in there! Go back to the old fashion way and cook your food from scratch, not only will taste it much better, but you will lose weight and save a lot on your grocery bill. Go shopping when your fridge and cabinets are empty.

Do you know that people buy too much food and than throwing it away? You lose a lot of money and make others richer.

5) Don't buy this huge big house, because you make more money. No, think that all this extra room need to bee cleaned. Than think about when you are older it will be harder to keep up with it. Just have a normal home that makes you feel home. I personally like a house to live in it, not as a show case.

6) Don't buy because you think other expect it from you! They don't pay the bills for you.

7) Pay all your bills, pay yourself, put money into your business and invest money. You should always be able to pay cash for the things you need or want. When you just want something, than first save your money up for it and pay in cash. What the funny part is, sometimes people have no need anymore to that item they save for, but they had bought it when they only had charge their credit card.

Money always has to move, and when you just waste your money, your money will find a way to be wasted, but when you control your money and were it should go, more money will go to that please.

Are you ready to declare War to Debt?

What will be your first step?

    • I work at a local newspaper. Friday I had many extra papers in the car. I was going to a place where people would be congregating. I first thought that I could take the papers there and give them away. Then I had a second thought. The papers (week-end edition, fat with ads) would probably get scattered around and I would have to pick them up, but more important, all the ads would attract the people to buy more stuff that perhaps they didn't really need. So I kept them and will recycle them next week. Maybe this helped someone fight their own personal debt.

If you want a good lesson in personal economy you couldn't do any better than the chapter titled "Economy" in Henry David Thoreau's well known book, Walden.

  • Turning off the television, I found, has helped my spending habits immensely. It keeps me focused on working. I also maintain "wish lists"...I get to "shop" without spending money, and it helps me wait to spend the money when I really need or can afford that item.

  • I don't usually watch TV when I am working. But I find TV makes me overeat. I can't understand why they advertise fast food when the restaurants are closed. But it sets off a bad junk food craving and I wind up eating junk. I really should keep the TV off but there are some shows I do like to watch.

    • Well I still have a TV, for my teenagers, they love discovery Chanel and the engineering how machine and other things are made, well in this way it help educational wise. Yes, and I have a couple of shows by myself. I don't watch really much, but once in awhile NCIS, it's about having the challenge and finding the true answer, and I like the style how technology makes it possible putting all this puzzle together and the answer didn't should be when you have time but now or even yesterday. All other shows have too much attitude, hitting, language and violence, it's almost encourage young one to become criminals, just see the cartoons for little kids how much violence is in there.

Yes, TV will waste your time and stops you taking the action you must do for your business.

I also agree watching TV gives me a graving for food and easy overeat then.

But the good news is, next year I move back to my hometown and I will not have a TV

  • You may not be afraid, but what you've posted is decidedly against the rules here.

    No religion. No politics. Period.

Why? Because all it does is spark unhealthy discussion.

There's plenty of forums for religious conservative politics. This isn't one of them.

Just a friendly heads up since you seem sincere and you're pretty new here.

    Best,

    Brian
  • Whereas I wholeheartedly agree that we need to live debt free. I also realize that the National debt is so huge .. I am speaking about the funded debt, the unfunded debt and the unspoken debt here in the US is so huge as to be beyond the scope of wrapping our minds around. It is possible that dramatic changes are coming both on a national basis and global basis that may radically change our concepts of debt and wealth.

Not only should we get out of debt but make some plans for dealing with a situation were wealth maybe based upon a bag of rice and beans. Hopefully things don't get that bad ..but we need to be proactive..

  • I'm truly agree on that.

Firstly, the same thing goes, spend on unwanted stuff - bad debt , spend for investing for your own good, good debt.

Secondly, never be credit card slave. Use your own hand and work for something. Why not ?

Thirdly, clear all the bills. A-must action to turn your net worth back to ZERO and keep growing your money and asset.

I'm truly love this..... it's time to start the war !
  • This is really true. Appreciating.
  • What happened to: "Be a good citizen, go buy something (even if you don't need it), it's good for the economy". Little off topic but the other day I saw a bumper sticker with a picture of an Indian Chief and the quote was," Sure you can trust what the government says". :-)
  • Seriously , if just depend on government to give you money while you in debt, why don't just think another new way by using debt to create money ? OR else there is another way of doing that by create your own asset and slowly back to zero net worth. There are many ways to counter-attack the debt. Just don't be a money's slave, I don't wish to, everyone also don't wish to.
  • I have been Debt free for over a decade but it took me 30 years to get there. You need to sit down and plan, now the cost of borrowing money now is quite low and you need to resist to borrow money and pay it back next month. It is much better to wait until you have the cash to purchase something and ask for a cash discount.

I remember once going into a shop to purchase a new 3 piece suite and asking for a cash discount which was turned down even though I showed the money, so I then pulled out my American Express card and charged it to that costing them an additional 4% in charges, placed the cash on deposit and paid the bill one month later after earning 30 days extra interest.

I measure my financial worth not from what I earn but from my Networth and generally my net worth is increasing month on month. I am building a new house in the Philippines because money goes further here . The present instability in the stock market and currency markets are a concern as we need to purchase new furnishing but we will wait for the markets to stabalise rather than incur short term debt.
  • Thank you for this awesome post!!

I'm in the the war too...everyday from now on!

Credit cards and interest are evil, they should be everyone's enemy. There should be programs in school that show/help teens with money management but the system is corrupt since nobody would really want the young to be too smart with their money because the profits at the top would be much much smaller!
  • Most economic activity is based on usustainable habits. People are starting to wake up and realise that they don't need all the stuff they have been buying and no longer wish to be up to their eyeballs in debt.

It's up to businesses to adapt to the new paradigm instead of expecting governments to stimulate consumer spending. Start providing true value to your customers or be prepared for a rough decade or two.
  • It actually makes you wonder whats wrong with keeping the money under the mattress, I suppose those people that are buying gold and silver are perhaps practicing this.

Pawnshops in my opinion are another kind of establishment which people need to be wary of, they are great for getting rid of unwanted objects, but borrowing money from them can work out expensive. If you need to keep pawning objects you need to examine your outgoing to live within your means
  • It all a habit, nothing else!

People been groom to spent more money than they have in the moment. Today it is more common to be in debt than having savings. Decades ago it was a shame to have debt, the only exemption was debt for a home.

    • Is it at all ironic that TV likes talking about debt because you can make so much money off of it?
