I read at least a couple books on marketing, persuasion,
copywriting a month. Sometimes I re-read things I've
read before.
Here are 3 I've read recently:
1. "The 4-Hour Workweek" - Timothy Ferriss - over-rated. It has some
provacative ideas in it but if you've been around IM for awhile much
of it won't be that informative. Recommend you get it from the library
rather than buy.
2. "The Twelve Factors of Business Success" - Kevin Hogan, Dave Lakhani, Mollie Marti -
simply awesome book on what success really requires. Questions and dissects
the common homilies and really gives it to you straight. Very critical-thinking
oriented. This is one I'll be mailing to people in my coaching program.
3. "The Closers" Ben Gay III, James W. Pickens - easily the most intense
and controversial sales/persuasion book I have read. It's ethical but it
discusses dirty tricks too. Treats the sales process like a battle, very
much like Art of War type stuff. If you read it with an open mind it can
take your thinking/ethics to a whole new level. If you are a knee-jerk
person about what is "right" in selling and business you might over-react
and throw it across the room. Not for wimps. High recommended but
advanced - if you do sales and need to be better it's good. For curiosity
seekers it probably won't make a lot of sense to you and might cause
you to perceive salespeople incorrectly.
