How do you motivate yourself?

I love to set large and specific goals. I set long term goals and short term goals. A big goal has a big effect and can create a lot of motivation to me

On top of that, reviewing my results is important so I can see where I have gone wrong in the past to avoid similar missteps further on. But it's also important because it's a great motivator to see how much I have improved and how far I have come. Often you can be pleasantly surprised when you do such a review.

What about you?

  • Hi Hazy,

I would add a buddy system to motivate myself.
For the longest time, I decide to start on my online business but have procrastinated until I made the decision to attend the training together with a friend. The results after the training have been amazing.

The support from the rest of the participants is a great motivator.

besides setting Big goals, I also break them down into smaller steps and boil them down into 3 small steps I can work towards everyday.

I find having a photo montage of the things that I want to have is another motivating factor.

    • I set up big and specific goals too, then I have a plan for them. Everyday I do something that I can do forward to my goals.
If I feel bored, I relax and think about things that I want achieve and If other can do, I can do too, And only myself just change my life so I need do right way and persistence give more efforts. I focus on what I can do and learn more get more knowledge. I will growth and achieve my goals.
      Here is my way.
  • I make sure and do small challenges each day that I set for myself. Review your goals each night and morning. I also made a dreamboard of all the things I want to accomplish and I have it in several different places.
  • I envision the potential fruits of my efforts.
  • I think I should follow your foot steps on that one.

I personally do not do any review on any of my goals or achievements.
  • Hi Hazyl,

It usually depends for what you are being motivated. For me if i have to motivate myself on my job front my priorites to set goal will be different as compared to my personal level.
I get motivated in office when i get good salary and proper enviorment to work upon in short "Job Satisfaction" but when i am at home or with friends i get motivated when i spend quality time with them it encourages me to make them happy and fulfil their dreams.
  • By setting my self the most outrageous sounding goal ever! and attempting to surpass it.
  • Goals.

The problem I find with motivation is that it's not a fixed thing. It always comes and goes in waves, and in order to achieve you have to utilize self discipline.

When your motivation starts to lack, you can use self discpline to force yourself to action.
  • Whenever I feel stressed , depressed I call upon my mother and talk with her.she is such a energetic lady.she will boost me up.love my mother
  • by being goal oriented and being optimistic in whatever circumstances will come..
  • Most importantly you have an ambition to become successful. You should dream and work on it in accordance to your plan.

    • When I see that tiny paycheck every two weeks...
When I see my bank balance vs debt...
When I see my 11-year old car in the driveway...
When I keep the thermostat down to 15°C (60°F) in the wintertime...

Things like that keep me motivated.

  • I noticed that motivation doesn't last so I don't rely on it. What I rely on is my self-discipline. I will watch motivational videos and audios now and then to boost myself to work harder or keep myself from slacking off. Most of the time I'm not motivated but, I still do what needs to be done. Self-discipline is much more important than motivation in my opinion.

Having the mental strength to do things when you don't want to do them is a difficult skill to develop but, it is a skill that has allowed me to reach success in different areas of my life faster than the average person.

  • Short term goals are conquered with coffee. Im not talking about a cup here or there, I plonk the pot straight on my desk and take MAN gulps by the minute! ha ha

Long terms goals, for me, are accomplished with rest and rejuvenation of the mind. Taking a step back every now and then to realize why I am doing all this and how it will benefit my future. Visualize my success before it has even happened.

  • The fact that I've spent so many hours online is enough motivation, I've gotten this far so quitting is impossible. ;o
  • Keep a constant reminder of what you want to achieve....a picture, a note, etc...placed on the bathroom mirror, fridge, pc wallpaper, etc...
  • When I think of my dreams, it automatically motivate me to sit down on computer and keep working..
  • Scare myself witless with what will happen if I cannot achieve my goals. Fear a great motivator.
  • I always stay focused for the goals I have set for myself. The goals are appropriate and relevant to my skills and interests. I set specific goal, not a goal which is too broad. I have tried something so that the goals always remain fresh in my mind. I want to be a famous football player. So I have cut the pictures of some world best players in the wall so that they always inspire me. My screensavers in mobile and laptop also have these pictures. At the beginning I started with a small goal – playing in local club and I became successful. I never lose my confidence and always want to prove myself. I believe in some kind of mental pressure as I believe it enhances your hunger for success if handled properly. In my course of actions whenever I have failed I never lost the confidence as that is the key. I always believed that failure happens to everyone. I use my mistakes to learn from it so that I cannot repeat them to hinder my success. My susceptibility never allows me to get distracted and deviate from my path to success
  • Of course the "goals" aspect both long and short term is central to your success at motivation. But what I find interesting is the concept of actively reviewing and sort of inventorying just what has been accomplished.

That review process alone, it seems to me, would create considerable motivation in the participant when he sees how much he has actually accomplished over a span of time.
