Going Full Time IM?

So I started back in April learning about IM and I have gradually gotten to earning $300 this past month. I earn a bit less than that on my part time job so my goal was that once I had a month earning through IM over what my job pays I would quit. I might have been lucky though cause most of my traffic/leads comes from a yahoo answers account that was just suspended today! the backlinks are still there though....

I work with my dad and it's a family business but I don't do much tbh, I'd say I work for an hour out of the 4 I'm there and I'm on desk with internet but it's kind of slow and flaky sometimes and having to wake up early messes up most of my days, sometimes pretty badly. I told him I'm quitting and he accepts it but he is advicing me to give it more time to see if IM is a sure thing, and to not let go of the extra income at work... not putting all my eggs in one basket kind of thing.

On the other hand I feel that once I quit my job I will be more productive, maybe much more and I might get to my $1000/month goal much faster, plus I've been working that job for 2 years straight 6 days a week and I can't say I'm fulfilled, I think that would also chage as soon as I quit. I really don't see a reason why I won't be able to get to my goals or that IM will suddenly stop working for me but I don't know....

What do you guys think? :S

  • If you really believe you can do it. Go for it, you have the quality of successful IM. Don't let fear hold you back towards your goal.

  • Before you quit set a goal of how much you want to/will earn with I.M. and make it large and compelling ("I earn $5K/mth"). That way when you quit you will immediately apply more potential and scale up your already successful I.M. business. So basically yeah, quit and focus on I.M.

  • If you have enough money in the bank and it's a calculated move then yes. I quit my job 2 years ago and it was the best choice i ever made. Now i'm on my own schedule, work in my pajamas but still work hard at my home business.

  • there's some rule that successful people told me.
    1. never burn your bridget
    2. only move from one power base into the next stronger power base
    3. start small, test things out
    4. think globally, act locally
    5. you need to know what you do, then you do what you know.

  • From the little that I have picked up most experienced IM'ers advised that you should diversify (don't put everything on one method) and re-invest some of your earning so that you can scale up and make even more bank

  • If you only work one out of the four hours you're there, how is that going to translate into your IM career?

    Having one $300 month is not a very good basis for quitting your job. If you can stay consistent at that for a few more months I would consider leaving.

    My advice would be to hold down your job and use the money you're making there to invest into your IM methods.

  • What an awesome position to be in. I would say first make sure you have a good bit saved back, maybe like 3-6 months of your parttime income in the stash. Then go full fledge... God speed!

    • Remember that you may BELIEVE to be self disciplined but in reality you aren't.

      I know you imagine that when you quit your job you will gain a huge motivation boost, things will "CHANGE" magically and you'll start earning big figures quickly:

      "because my job is holding me back"

      I STRONGLY advice you to use your logic instead of imagination.

      Look at your current IM venture. How much you're earning?

      How long will it take to scale this up? Would money from daily job help in scaling things up?

      How hard would it be to scale up without money from daily job?

      What makes you think that you will grow your IM business very quickly after you quit your job?

      Is there a solid base for that? Or is it that you "BELIEVE" that you know how to do it?

      I say : quit your job when you start earning enough from IM and stop bullshitting yourself.

      In case you do quit your job you actually just CHANGING YOUR JOB.

      If you do whatever you want, whenever you want - you will soon look for another daily job.

      Wake up, go to "work" do everything needs to be done and repeat 7 days a week until you're earning enough. 1 year like that and you can be free.

      On the other hand if you feel like "ahh now let me rest few days and then ill build my IM empire!!" - you're doomed from the start.

      Just noticed you do quit your job. Well I wish you well.

      Living with parents is your big enemy though. Nothing will happen if you dont work.

      That can be really bad. I hope you overcome the comfort zone your parents are providing you with.
  • thanks guys! guess what! it's done! I QUIT! I'm kind of nervous and scared and exited at the same time! sad for sure... the people at work where great.

    I think the biggest reason I choose to do it is becuase it will hopefully have more benefitial changes to my being in a more holistic way, (I'm changin my diet and starting an exercise regime in the mornings, even the weather is getting nicer) than the extra money I would have gotten getting any extra working days.

    I do have plenty of savings I'm planning on converting to metal assets but I live with my parents, and I can eat what I want so I don't have any real pressures to make it, however I hope by May next year (before I turn 27) I can make enough to live on my own, which is my ultimate short term goal.

  • Maybe at least be working part-time or on-call until you develop a sustainable and significant online income.
  • DONT EVER! Quit your job on a whim if you have a family/people to support and you don't know if it's going to work.

    You have to balance out your work life/IM life to include both until you can cut out your work completely. Keep building up your business and escalating and soon you'll be telling your boss to shove it! In a nice respectable way I would hope so that you can get your job back if you need to.

  • If you quit your current job and spend the time, you would normally spend at work, focusing on IM, it may give you better results. From what you wrote, this is your family business, so I think there would be no problems going back, if you change your mind (otherwise, it would not be reasonable to quit your job, if there is no way back). From the other hand, you have an additional source of money - your current work. You need to consider all the pros and cons - the choice is yours. I can only wish you Good Luck!

  • Make sure that your online earnings are stable before quitting your job and go full time.
  • Sometimes letting go of your comfort zones will propel you to success. A lot of people are not doing enough because they know they have the 9-5 to augment their income. If you let go, you don't have a choice but to do better in IM. And that's when you'll succeed the most.

  • Hey Congrats! I say do both and if you want to be more productive scale and outsource. Once before I thought to replace a job with Internet income but just like a job can lay you off then the "Internet god" Google can say goodbye to your income.

    Don't put your eggs in one basketball, quit your job when you are earning income from another place not just the Internet. =-)

    Once you have multiple streams then say goodbye to your job, till then work hard but also work smart and outsource.

  • Hey eduguate I see my self in you. All I can say is to believe in your self and trust your gut.

    Just a year ago I decided to quit my job without any assurance that I can even earn online, but the $1.80 in my Adsense account gives me the light to pursue my dreams and I do trust my gut, I bought a used computer for $290 and I borrowed a money for my internet connection.

    And within just a year, not to brag but today I'm making more money than to my previous job and I can buy the things I need. That was the riskiest move I ever made but luckily it pays off.

    • Basic principal you have to follow in your success pathway is one word. That's



      It's impossible for you to take all kind of jobs, both of offline and online, and get the maximum result for them. You have to sacrifice one of them, and go focus for the rest one. Do you know the story of bill gates why he could be one the most riches guy in the world ? If you probably don't know the answer, I'll give it to you.

      He always sat on the computer for 8 hours in a day during several years successively.

      See from the answer above ? He just focuses what he loves, what he is passionate about, what his desire is, and so on.

      Now the decision is in yourself. Quit your job and being full time online marketer, or quit your im job and being full time offline worker. It is as simple as like that.

  • First, think, and be honest to yourself. Do you really believe you can achieve the 1k/month goal if you quit your job.

    If the answer is yes, then go for it.

  • first, set your goal, how much you want to earn in a month. then try to achieve your goal. Once you be capable to earn money you need per month. that will be the right time to quit from ur job.
  • Don't leave until you are already making enough for a decent living. Unless time is really short.
  • Only quit you're job when IM is earning you the equivalent or more
  • Is 1k a month a career?!

    • I guess it would depend on where you are at in life. I have a mortgage, a monthly mini-van payment, and I like to have electricity and hot water... oh and these little people keep telling me they're hungry and want me to make them something to eat. ; )

      If your comfortable with 1K a month, cool. But if you NEED 1K a month, I would suggest a goal of an average of 2K+ a month consistently before quitting.

  • I see this thread staying alive so let me put in my own 2 cents. I did quit my job and go full time online in 2006. Here was my criteria....

    1. Debt free except house payment.

    2. 6 months income in the bank.

    3. Have enough Internet skills that I could go online and create $1K cash flow in less than 7 days.

    In spite of the ups and downs in the marketplace since 2008 I am still full time. Anyone can do it. Put together your own meaningful criteria and go for it!

    • I would say in your situation you don't risk too much..focus on your goal, be realistic, create a nice to do list and work on some tasks every day, I think that if you are serious about making money on line and you are consistant you will not only create a full time income working from home ( or any other place in the world) but also have more money that you've ever imagined
