Reason #1: It pushes your site up the search engines

The search engines rank search engines rank search results based on the quality and relevance of the content they find. By posting frequent, high quality blogs you will find that quickly accumulate a large amount of content that is rich in keywords. The search engines spiders love this and as a result you will find your site moving up the rankings.

Reason #2: It persistently reminds people of what you’re good at

Blog are a great way for service providers to demonstrate their expertise or for product vendors to describe the particular benefits of their products. They are an unrivaled forum for all marketers to highlight their passion for whatever it is they do. It could be a firm of accountants commenting on the latest changes to tax legislation, or a wine retailer enthusing about new varieties, or tour operator providing tips on what to do in different destinations. Whatever it is your business does, you can blog about it and repeatedly put yourself in your customers’ and potential customers’ mind as experts on that subject.

Reason #3: It encourages people to debate issues with you

Crucially, blogs are not one-way communication, unlike your company website, your press releases, or your product brochure; your blog will allow people to respond. If they find a post particularly useful, they will be able to leave a comment saying as much. If they vehemently disagree with you, they will be able to make their point. However they respond, you will have an opportunity to develop the conversation, get to know them better, establish a relationship and maybe even sell them something.

Reason #4: It provides a space for you to project your personality

People buy from people. No one really likes faceless corporate marketing messages or dull product catalogs. That is why so few ads focus on product attributes. They all try to project a brand, a personality that customers can relate to any buy into. The tone of voice of the blogosphere is resolutely informal. It is accepted – fully expected, in fact – the you will offer a human perspective, take controversial positions, show what is unique and likeable about your company.

  • I blog because I like speaking my mind, LOL. Sometimes those around me don't understand, so why not put it out there where out of billions of users, SOMEBODY can debate with me intelligently?

    • Great post , i think the key to blogging is picking the right subject. If you choose something based solely on its income making potential then you wont really enjoy it and indeed are more likely to find it a drain on both your time and your enthusiasm. On the other hand if you can pick a subject you are truly passionate about then i think blogging can become not only theraputic but also enjoyable

      Great post

  • Thanks for the post!
I relate myself to #7: "It sharpens your thinking on key issues."...among others.

  • Reason #10: I'm insane and nobody will listen to my rants unless I post them on a sweet 2 word domain.

  • Blogging has been my income model for almost 2 years, and I don't feel like I'm working on it. I can speak up my mind, sharing, and be whoever I am. It's freaking fun! Not to mention the friendship I've made with my subscribers. Just lately one of my subscriber sent me a set of huge ebooks on healing I've been hunted for so long, and she said "it's my thank you for replying my email and helping me". I was like, holy crap! You reap what you sow . But the "wow" things I've learned from my blogging experience are, be yourself, be human, and be sincere.
  • True, blogging is indeed great and affords one a superb platform to interact, promote, and make more $$$ online.
  • Blogging teaches you as well. I don't know what it is, but it makes me learn more when I teach others. It really works. Thank you for your insight.

    • Yes, it's so true. The fast way to learn anything, it's about interaction. Through the comment, you are going to know more about your target.

      Totally agree.

  • Thank you Marcus for this reminder. I agree with you that blogging is a very good way to show personality on the internet and to develop your brand. In the past, I found it challenging because in order to be successful you have to post frequently and be consistent. Thank you for the reminder. I will definitely think about adding it back to my arsenal of marketing tools.
