Who else?

Whenever I have a 'lapse' in my motivation, I like to ask a little question I learned back in my NLP days:

"Who else would benefit from my being a successful marketer?"

I take out a piece of paper, or just open up a notepad on my 'puter, and make a list of everyone BESIDES ME who would benefit from my becoming a successful, productive, kick-ass internet marketer.

As the list grows, my power grows, and before I know it... I'm doing that stuff that I didn't really want to do 15 minutes before.

Give it a try, it might work for you!

  • This technique is indeed very motivational. I will definitely give it a try whenever I feel demotivated.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • Good tips Nate. I will do this today.

  • Thanks for this Nathan!

It really worked for me... one time I feel so lazy, then I read your post and give it a try, now I am hyper! like I'm really gonna make the best of my time now!

It's good to get expired and be reminded sometimes that we do things not just for our own sake, but also for the people around us.

    • Thanks for your reply, Mert.

It's funny how all great achievements through history have usually been in the service of others. Although we are often selfish beings, at our core we want to contribute to our loved ones / society at large.

I think that's why this exercise works: it allows us to tap into our 'higher selves', the place where all the power comes from!

      Glad it worked for you!

  • Thank you.. writing what you want to do are very helpful, just write it the every time you feel lazy just read and you will do the job..

  • Thanks Nathan if you do have that time when things are not going the way they should, I think of 5 to 10 things I am grateful for and this always includes my family and the freedom that this type of life style has given me.

I love helping others and I even have very good friends that I would love to be able to help and I know it will not be too much longer before I can do that.

    • Thanks Sue!

I agree that a 'gratitude reminder' can perform the same function as this little exercise. It's all about putting your mind on the reasons WHY you're bothering with any of this at all.

      Great to hear from you!

  • Works well unless you are a bit narcissistic like me. But the key is getting to what really motivates you. For some that will be freedom. For others it will be what they can buy (never just the money itself). For others it will be pure ego. While for you and many it is about helping those they love and care about.

You have to find your true motivation to keep on track. Too many people try to be motivated by money and that just doesn't work. No one wants money. You want the things money provides. So focus on those things to get truly motivated.

Glad you have found yours and know how to use it.

    • Hey Aaron,

Even a narcissist like you can appreciate the POWER you can have over others when you 'help/buy' them, due to your success.

      Thanks for commenting, man.
