When life gets you down...how do you deal with it?

You wake up.... and realise you are in a scene from the movie "Groundhog Day"

Everything is in repeat motion.... redundant.... cyclical.... not exciting and just plain old lame....

You lost faith in humanity.... you think people are dirt bags and everyone is an asshole who wants to take advantage of you.... You trust no one and you become your own worst enemy.

Your family sucks... your friends are too busy.... no one has time and are drained by the day to day routine...striving to make ends meet to pay for bills, rent, family, etc..

Your only escape is ..... food, tv, internet, games.... senseless activities to numb your mind from the apparent lack of faith....

What picks you up from this distorted alternate reality ?

For me.. its knowing that I am a free entity bounded by no one but my own freewill .. that I am capable... and have the power to pick myself up from misery.. knowing I have a choice to move beyond how I feel... knowing that life is more than what meets the eye.......

like the seasons of the weather.... leaves fall.. but once spring comes, everything will be in abundance....its having faith and knowing that life will change and that things do get better with time.

  • When life starts seeming tough, I attempt to solve problems that are present, think about problems clearly, seek help if necessary and possible, persevere relentlessly and doggedly and utilize an infinite amount of patience.
  • well,

i am in one of those down periods now . there is usually one prominent issue at the core of a down point ..

the choice is to either deal with it permanently... figure out how to cope so it is not such a weight . or bitch and whine and blame everyone or everything you can .

eventually it passes..but what you do through it this time.. will dictate if it become a reason for another down point in the future or a building block for a better life .
  • Boy, life can get tough at times. Most of the time it comes down to who you are and what you want to become. If you keep telling yourself those two things, then eventually you will come around full circle and start working on "you" again. It may take longer to reach your goals ,but if you keep reminding yourself who you are and what you want to become it will help you "stay on track". Have a great day.

    • It isn't your job, or where you live, or the friends that you have, that make you happy or unhappy it is "what you think about"

That may sound profound but it is true you become what you think about all day long.

  • It is not your present circumstances that determine your level of peace. It is how you choose to 'perceive' them.

A miracle is a 'shift' in perception.

Accept everything that is going on in your life right now (Good or Bad) and accept that right now, there is nothing you can do about it. There is great power in acceptance.

So in a nutshell, it is not what happens to you but how you 'react' to what happens.

Ask your 'higher' mind for a new perception.
  • I let time (even overnight) do it's thing.

Eventually I'm reminded of the quote "Nothing is good or bad but that thinking makes it so."
  • When I'm really down I like to take a day out of my usual life. I remove myself from all electronics (phone, pc, internet, etc) and spend the day reading a good book and taking my dog for a long walk in the countryside.

That does the trick for me nine times out of ten.

  • I focus on what I can got done by the end of the day and starting crossing things off my to do list. It is amazing how much better I feel when I see what I can accomplish in just one day.

If I do decide to take a break, read a book, or take the dog for a walk, etc I don't beat myself up about it. Treat yourself like you would a close and dear friend, in other words don't beat yourself up.
  • I do not care what you do in life you will always have down days, even when you were a kid. You are over thinking the problems, switch up your routine, change your office a little.
Put up inspirational sayings or write a letter to yourself about what you have accomplished recently. Maybe you are stuck now or maybe you are just in a sharp learning curve and when you come out of it life will really get much better from the experience.
You never know what is on the other side until you break through.
    Go forward and push through
