No one can overrule the fact that in order to be successful in any field, one needs to be focussed.
Lives of all successful people offer perfect testimonials to emphasis the importance of focus in your work.
But the question most people ask is how to develop that focus?
Well meditation is the answer!
Now there are several types and ways of doing meditation.

What I found to be very effective in leveraging your focus is concentration on breathing.
As per Hinduism and even Buddhism, breathing offers the vital life force. Hence when you begin to concentrate on it, you simply surrender to the vital life force and begin to engage it in your work. That's how you can leverage your efficiency.

Initially when you start with the breath concentration exercise, there will be some difficulty. Many distracting thoughts will cross your mind. But over a period of practice, you'll start getting more control over your thoughts and better focus on breath.

As a direct benefit of this practice, you'll find that your reactions to situations are better controlled. You are more at peace and your performance is invariably boosted. Consequently you start getting positive results.

But you need to maintain consistency in your practice. Even 15 mins per day is enough to start with. As you get better at it, you can increase the duration or do it at regular intervals during the day.

I am sure, like me, anyone who practices this meditation technique, will definitely get benefited and his/her life is bound to improve.

  • Absolutely Vikram! I have been doing meditation for years and has helped me enormously! It is a critical part of doing my business for me. I recommend that everyone should do it! Your life will be in FLOW more and all types of good things will start happening for you!

If you don't understand how to meditate, there are lots of videos online on meditation on your breath. Or just be still and focus within and say some positive affirmations such as 'I am connecting with my Spirit / Higher Self' Over time as you practice this you will get good at it and you will receive a higher guidance that is right for you. Keep a journal.

  • Meditation is quite possibly the most useful and definitely the most powerful mind technique currently known.

That breathing technique sharpens focus, builds self-control, and dramatically increases performance in any intellectually demanding task.

  • I do a 20 minute relaxation technique everyday. Every time I wander, I bring myself back to one. Life changing!

    • That's a very good practice you are following. It takes sometime for the advantages of meditation to reveal themselves. But over a period of time, you definitely experience its benefits!

  • Meditation is one of the best things we can do for ourselves. Even five minutes observing ones breath with eyes closed is beneficial.

I find it interesting that the act of catching yourself being distracted and re-focusing your attention on breathing is the SAME impulse required by willpower.

So teaching yourself to return to meditation uses the same “muscle” as teaching yourself to skip dessert or avoid making a snarky remark.

    • I only do the simplest of meditation exercises but the difference they have made in my life have been amazing.

I spend just 10 to 20 minutes a day focusing on my breathing and I've found that I am much more patient, focused, empathetic, creative, calm, and less anxious than I was before I started meditating. That's a heck of a lot of benefits for something that's FREE to do!

Imagine how much companies would charge if they could put all those positives in a pill...
  • I remember once hearing Deepak Chopra say: "Sleep is unconscious meditation. Meditation is conscious sleep."

It's beneficial as you get to relax your mind and be conscious enough to enjoy and soak in all the rejuvenating benefits, which you don't get to do in sleep. (With the possible exception of lucid dreaming, which is also awesome.)
