Well, you build apps to promote or support a business or product or you build a app that does something. Apps are here to stay, and if that is where you want to dedicate your time, go for it. But I would keep in mind you ultimate goal of what you want to accomplish. Probably, best advice is go to to BOTH iTunes store and the Google Play stores, and start your research and see what is already BUILT and what is and is not available.
