OPEN VBX & Twilio

Anybody have any luck with open VBX and Twilio?

I havent been able to get open vbx to install on my server. Their support is horrible.Been a week now and very little help. When i go through the install
and at the end of install it just takes me back to the first page of the install. Like im going in a loop.

Tried many diff browsers too. Seems like Open VBX has all sorts of issues anyways.May not be worth the headaches even if i get it installed.

Anyone?

There was a guy giving away an install video for Open vbx, I will try and find it and come back to you.

I've been working mainly with the sms side but did install OpenVBX when I first found Twilio. I didn't have any issues getting it going but it's been a few months and not sure if it's been updated.

I haven't need any support but the few questions I have sent them were answered pretty quickly. I'm not sure what options you have tried to get some help .... the forum has been a good resource. Here's a link to all the options ... Twilio Cloud Communications | Web Service API for building Voice and SMS Applications

Hope this is helpful.

Hi,

My name is Shawn and I'm the lead developer on OpenVBX. I've looked for your support request but haven't been able to match your username here to a support request and I can't seem to find a related support request that might be your issue.

Can you outline the problem that you're having? Hopefully we can get you going quickly and easily.

Thanks!

Re: OPEN VBX & Twilio

I installed OpenVBX on my server about a month or two ago. From what I recall, the installation was relatively straight-forward and proceeded without any major hangup. I believe OpenVBX did update the software in between the time of your post and the time I installed on my server, so maybe there was an issue with that particular version of OpenVBX, or perhaps it simply didn't want to play nice with your particular server configuration. In any event, I would suggest you download the latest version and attempt to install it again, if you are still interested in it and have not already done so. There are a few free plug-ins to expand the functionality of OpenVBX that you can download from Sourceforge or other similar sites, and as others have mentioned a couple of robust alternatives offered as WSOs here on WF. Perhaps you would have better luck with one of the WSOs - at least you would be getting support, since you would have paid for the product. They are all definitely worth your time to check out. I've had a few clients express interest in cutting their phone costs, as the toll-free numbers through Twilio are something like $2/month plus I think $0.02/min for incoming calls and $0.03/min for outgoing calls. Regular non-toll-free numbers are cheaper.

Alternatively, you could try checking out Tropo (tropo.com), which is similar to Twilio (although in my opinion seems to have more international capability at last check). Tropo has a soft phone called "Phono" that you can download from their site. It's already tested to work with the Tropo API and you host it on the Tropo server for no additional cost. In that case you don't have to worry there being an issue with your server config because you host your app(s) with them.
