I WOULD LIKE SOME IDEAS ON BUILDING LIST FOR CLIENTS

I am just starting a mobile business and would like some ideas on list building for clients. I have seen a lot of ideas on how to sell the customer that they should use a SMS service but not nearly as much on how to build the list for them after they are sold

I found using facebook friend finder and search for people in your related niche. Then send them a message to add you as a friend.

If you're referring to SMS/Text Message Marketing, the only legitimate way to build the list is via opt-in.

Your client invites their customers (and potential customers) to subscribe by promoting a call to action. Ex. 'Text this keyword to this shortcode to receive exclusive deals from company X'.

They promote their program in as many ways possible to build their list: at POS, in email signatures, as part of a contest, on their social media sites, on their website, directly asking, in their newsletter, on radio, etc.

Where and how they promote it depends on who they want to attract. For example, if they want current customers only, they probably wouldn't use radio.
