Can anyone please advice on the html (?) code to embed "click here to SMS" and "click here to email" PRE-FILLED with subj. and/or content? Any WP plugins that do this? Why? I’d like to have clickable text prompting a mobile site visitor to SMS or email to receive an open house schedule. I don't want them to think what to write. Just click the dumb button and it sends a per-filled question for you. Thanks, pals. - Allen . |

For an email link it would be: <a href="mailto:email@yourwebsite.com?subject=Subject of Email">Click Here to Email</a> For an SMS link it would be: <a href="sms:1234567890">Click Here to SMS</a> Beware though that not all mobile phone browsers nor desktop browsers recognize the SMS command so I usually would advise against using it. |

Cool! Thanks Will! Is there any way to pre-fill some of the reply content for the mailto:? (Almost like in a classical order coupon: "YES, Joe, you may be crazy but what have a I got to lose. Rush me my free report to this email I check frequently so I can read it asap. ") Or does this require a full blown contact form? |

<a href="mailto:email@yourwebsite.com?subject=Subject of Email&body=Please send me a copy of your new program!">Click Here to Email</a> Note: One of the reasons very few people use these type of links anymore (and use contact forms instead) is because it exposes YOUR email address and bots can easily pick it up and then all the spam begins. If you are going to use a link like this then I strongly suggest placing the following meta tag in the head section of the HTML page: <meta name="robots" content="noindex, nofollow, all" /> This meta tag basically tells search engines not to follow or index that page. If the page is not indexed in the search engines then it will be almost impossible for bots to find so long as you don't link to that page from any other page that IS indexed in the search engines.

also dont forget not everyone has the capability to send/receive email from their phone - some people may use gmail/yahoo etc and not have it directly connected to their phone. i would instead as Will said use a contact form - if you look at twilio its not that difficult for them fill in a form and it send them a text message - which they can reply too and possibly have them opt into your sms blast list, depending on how you have things configured. cheers jay |

While I couldn't agree more with WillR, remember that the people who want to harvest your email address for the purpose of spamming you, probably won't care if you put a "no follow" tag in the head... just my two cents worth :>) |

By placing the noindex tag at the top of the page it means search engines will not index this page so it will not be displayed in search engines and the email harvesters will not find it.
