QR CODES AND SMS MARKETING

I feel a little silly, but I must admit that regardless of all the ebook and courses I read and studied lately, I still I didn't clearly understand how to use QR codes and SMS for marking.

My idea is that I could create a customised QR code, show it with a sentence like "scan it to get out offers and discount". I don't want the person to land on a page with a coupon. I want to "grab" his phone number and be able to send him periodic offers.

Is this possible? How? What services do I/my clients need?

Is it possible to integrate it with the Twitter SMS free system?

I'm really sorry but I cannot find the answer anywhere. Perhaps I just did not "recognised" it, I'm not sure. It's a newbie question and I really need your help and experience!

Fist, QR Codes don't "Grab Phone Numbers", you can however utilize the QR Code to initiate a Text to opt in for Special Offers.

Keep in mind that SMS Marketing requires the Cellphone user to voluntarily "Opt-In" to receive offers so you can't just "grab their number" and start sending them offers.

Twitters "tweets" are not a viable substitute for a real SMS Campaign for a number of reasons including, but not limited to, the fact that the Advertiser has no access to their Opt In subscribers Data, they cant send send out specific messages to only certain people, and any message sent out HAS to automatically be sent to everyone on the list.

Thank you Hypetext. I know Twitter cannot be as good as paid services, but in my country the situation is really hard to manage and most of the people cannot afford/risk even few cents.
That's why I have to think about offering them something more than a site or a mobile site but at 0 expenses, otherwise they might not accepted my offer at all.

Could you believe? there are so many business here that don't have a site at all! they don't care much and don't see they are losing a great opportunity. I want to be able to offer a site, a mobile site and a marketing campaign all together. But I don't understand how to get potential customers to opt in a list....
I though a QR code could be good (here there are so little and people is always very curious... despite the economical crisis most of people have a smartphone...).
I just don't know how to integrate the qr code in the process!

Well, one way you might be able to get these people to opt in is to have then scan a QR Code that opens a link to a website that contains an Opt In form for them to fill out.

If SMS is too costly then you would also be able to collect their email addresses that way.

That is one option. You can also use free services like MailChimp.

QR codes do little more than catch the eye. They can be quite effective at it and it's often enough.

They can also pre-populate a text message with a phone number and a message, and they can open an e-mail program with a pre-populated send to address. They can also direct a smartphone (mobile phone with web access) to open a website in a browser.

They will only do these things if your offer is compelling, if the user knows what to do with the QR code and he has a scanner installed on his phone.
