Alternative to Vimeo for Mobile Site
Share on:

Hi!

I'm talking with a mobile-site prospect who creates a set of 5 videos every day, some of which he updates 1 - 3 times a day. (Think 'commodities broker')

I thought of using Vimeo because - unlike YouTube - you can 'replace' a video with a revised version of the same video and keep the same URL.

That way, each of the 5 'video' buttons on the mobile site, when clicked/tapped, would go to its respective URL and play the most current version of that video.

The problem I've run into is that the prospect, naturally, wants to first see a demo of the site, and Vimeo's TOS won't let me upload a video that A) is not mine and B) is commercial in nature - unless I buy a $199 Pro license.

I'll be dipped if I'm going to pay that kind of money and take the chance that the prospect - and his "junior bird man" of a webmaster whom he'll likely bring to the meeting - will notice the Vimeo branding (which displays on the basic license I'd buy, instead of the $199 Pro license) and do an end-run around me.

Any suggestions ... like another video service that doesn't require those kind of fees to create a demo-site video without trade names being displayed?

Thanks,
Richard

I can highly recommend TechSmith | Screencast.com, online video sharing, Home - although I've never tried to update a video and keep the same url. You could check them out and ask them directly.

One of the things I especially like is that they don't change or compress your videos the way youtube does. What you upload is what your customer sees - which for me, is great as far as mobile optimized videos are concerned. (And also larger sized videos that you want to display full size on the customer's screen with no loss of data.)
