Best Method to Accept Payments

Hey guys, I'm curious as to which is the best method you guys are using to accept payments from clients.

I have a business paypal account, and will be filing my DBA to get a business bank account as well.

My options are:

1. Send an invoice from quickbooks, and give instruction on how to make a payment via paypal.

2. Send an invoice from Paypal, which is from a PayPal e-mail but gives them the option to click the Pay button to make the payment directly to my account.

3. Ask for them to mail a check.


Which of these do the clients most prefer?

I'm obviously brand new to business, invoices, payment methods, so any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

    Option 2 sounds good. I think Paypal is the most convenient way for clients to receive invoices and give out payments.

    I haven't tried other sites similar to Paypal but I've had good experiences with the website and I've been using it for about 3-4 years.

    You will find quite a few small businesses still like to do the old paper cheque payment. Some people are so behind in that regard but it's just the way some prefer it.

    They hear about online payments and it scares them. They rather just keep it all offline and have a paper trail.

    All the options listed above by you are nice and secure, but personally I feels the second one is the finest one as mailing invoice and the direct link to make transaction to your account will be a simple and secure means.

      I agree PayPal is nice because it's very secure and well known.

      I have a question though, my client has given me their card information, and I told them I'd bill them and then send them a paid invoice. But when I go to make a payment on PayPal it has my create an account as the client.

      I mean create a password, and all this other information, pretending to be the client.

      That can't be the proper way to do it if you have their card information, can it?

        I would say paypal is the most convenient and the most well known form of online payment processing.

        Hi Darrett

        Yes PayPal is good for starting off but you'll want to get something else set up soon. The reason is PayPal can be really unpredictable. Their system is notorious for blocking your accounts because of "suspicious" activity. Just a few hours ago a friend of mine sent a note saying that he received a 5 figure payment that PP now has held saying that it was suspicious, even though he has done this many times before (He is a high end copy writer)

        Now as for your last question...
        You should create an invoice in paypal and send that to your client.. that will have payment instructions for them to follow.... much like what happens when you use pp on a website.. it will send them through the same type of portal.

          I have tried sending them an invoice via PayPal, but for my current situation that's not working too well.

          I'm dealing with constant small payments. They just want to give me their card info once and have me bill and give them a paid invoice from there.

            I'm dealing with payments of only $20-$30, but they're constant.

            These agents don't have time to keep checking their e-mails and type info in to make a $30 payment to me.

            They've given me their card info and want me to handle it, what is the best option?

    Second option is looking very good for you, Paypal is a very good option for making and receive invoices. As well its provide good customer care services and support to newbies.

    I think a lot of online businesses are familar with paypal and that is my method of choice as well, however if you are dealing with local offline businesses they are not quite as comfortable with paypal. My suggestion is if your open to it just ask them what they prefer..believe me they will tell you.

    Thanks for the replies, I believe MegaC is right, I'll need to pay a $30 monthly fee and small percentage but that's best option for me to process the client's credit card myself.
