Looking for some answers to mobile site questions please :-)

Hi guys & girls,

I am very interested in starting up a local mobile website company to deliver high quality mobile sites to clients primarily in my area/city. I have a few questions about mobile sites though:

1.When you design mobile sites for your clients, do you mimic the same look and feel as their standard site? For example, do you use their normal logo? I would assume yes to keep consistency etc.

2. What do you do if they dont have a standard website? Is there anypoint of only having a mobile site?

3. I see a lot of companies in my country are charging high hosting costs for mobile websites. Is this just because its a new trechnology to get more money from the clients? Who do you use for hosting the mobile sites?

thanks guys,

Looking for sites for sale, especially survival/prepper sites if anyone has any available, please pm me, thanks.

thanks guys,
There's nothing special about mobile sites unless they use a specific application. A lot of Wordpress or basic html. Best bet is to use a subdomain and have the site redirect to the mobile version when it detects a mobile device. Although, most mobile devices today are able to auto fit a normal website to their screen with full functionality.

No need for special hosting, you can use any regular hosting in most cases.

Hope that helps!

EDIT: They're probably charging more because they may be selling you a mobile site building included as well. I think one is "Go Mobi" or something along those lines.

Hey Justin

1) When you get a client to agree to a mobile site, it's going to be up to them on how they want it to look. Most will want it to mimic their present site. One thing to keep in mind though, you need to remind your client that when it comes to mobile sites, less is better. With mobile websites, the more functions, images, etc, that you add, the longer it will take to load on the end users phone. Stick with the absolute necessities for the mobile site.

2) I guess they can get away with having just a mobile website, but people acessing their site through a pc will see something like this... Ariel Pizza
This would not make for a very pleasant experience for PC users. A benefit to you though is it would give you an opportunity for an upsell to them for a regular website.

3) Not sure where you live, but the hosting for mobile sites is no different than regular websites since mobile sites can be designed using HTML, PHP/Wordpress, etc. Hosting companies like Hostgator, 1and1, liquidweb, etc, can all be used.

Good luck with your mobile endeavors...

1. Yes same look and fee with logo should be applied

2. I do not think so if they do not have any standard website

3. Same hosting can work, you should add mobile site to some sub domain and add mobile redirect to main site

Hello!

1- My process it to get their logo, 2 or 3 main colors from their webssite and then I create a mockup using a general mobile template.

2- If they don't have a standard website I try to sell them the all package

3- I host the websites myself in a normal hosting account. There is some competition in that field and some are really expensive - only if you have massive traffic or it is a very specific mobile site you need to pay +$20 per month. Or if you want to use those WYSIWYG mobile tools that include hosting - but you remain totally dependent.

Hi Skullbone, thanks for your message!

1) Yes I definitely agree about what you said, the less is more stuff, it just needs to have click to phone, some details about business, their logo and maybe a map reference.

2.) I like that pizza site, did you do that one? Looks nice on my android. But yes, it needs a bit of tweaking for pc's but I mean nothing a wordpress template and some text couldnt fix up. Yes upsells all over the place, then you have google+ listings etc.

I could just base the business off mobile websites but then upsell them regular sites, seo and social media later couldn't I as I would already have a paying customer. After they are happy with the mobile site, then let them know of the other services that will make their business shine even more.
