Responsive sites work in certain cases but not all the time. If you take a closer look on many responsive sites, tons of them lost their vigor. Another thing is, many businesses would not want to invest in something that will be built from scratch and that's why I think, mobile cms website builder platform is the best way to go.

A well coded responsive site will work fine down to a tablet, but mobile optimized size for smartphone works better.

globalpro is right. Responsive sites are trendy and great in theory, but in practice, and not surprisingly, it's tricky to pull off well for smaller screen phones.

Well yes, if we get right down to the source code, we'll see that we'll know they are not really optimized for mobile and if we want a solution that can fix this quickly and efficiently, it's gotta be mobile optimized sites.

I agree with the comments here. In my experience, responsive sites do a good job when viewed on everything down to a tablet, but I much prefer delivering a mobile optimized site for all phones.

I guess that if your site is not ready for the users from mobile devices, you just can't start mobile market. It's a basis for your future efforts.

A responsive website can provide a great user-experience across many devices and screen sizes. A fully functional and flexible website will improve the user experience and attract visitors to stay on the website.

Responsive design offers many benefits to marketers and is beginning to take hold as a standard for web design. However, before simply choosing responsive because you want to be “forward-thinking” or “tech-savvy”, it’s important to understand the benefits and drawbacks to this approach, and how it fits into your overall web strategy. Ultimately, it’s up to you to decide if responsive design is right for you, and we hope the above information helps lead you in the right direction.

we keep having these discussions (not having a pop at OP) but we never seem to get a definite answer , even outside this forum I mean, people are split, Google change their mind like the wind, the end user is surely the crux of the issue, what do they want, what will/do they engage and convert through the most, does it change from industry sector to sector, geodemographic to geodemographic etc , I don't know and the usual places you can find the answers/ stats don't seem to be counting responsive V stand alone V adaptive etc

Responsive design is a must have if you want to penetrate the mobile market (which has grown enormously in the past few years).

for these days, responsive design can not be overlooked. If your site is not yet responsive, it's a time to start now. good software vendors are making it ready out of the box and good developers are now getting used to with responsive concept. You should get a responsive site/store easily these days.
