Rise From The Ashes - An Older And Wiser Warrior

"Dont it always seem to go
That you dont know what youve got
Till its gone"

Big Yellow Taxi - Joni Mitchell 1970

For 7 days, I was unable to participate in the greatest forum in
the world...The Warrior Forum.

At first, I didn't know how I'd take being away.

By day 6...I really missed it and could only think of how lucky
I was that my banishment was permanent.

Make no mistake about it...my banning was well deserved
and maybe even long overdue. Some would say I should
have been tossed out on my ear a long time ago.

So what does this all mean for me now?

Well, it's made me look at things from a whole different
perspective. It also made me realize so many things that
I don't normally think about. I won't go into all of them
here because I'd only bore you to tears.

But ultimately, what this experience has done is made me
older and wiser. I won't make any bold declarations of what I
will and won't do coming back. Nobody listens to, nor believes
those things anyway. I'm just going to lead by example.

Some will follow, some won't. I have no control over that. The
only thing I can control is what I do and don't do.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to contributing to this forum
again (it's probably what I missed the most) and I hope that
I can do that in a way that adds value to the forum and not in
a way that takes away.

Today, as I am posting this, it is July 4th. It would have been
my mother's 83rd birthday. It's my first one without her.

That sort of reality tends to put a lot of things into perspective.

    Hi, Steven,

Was this aimed at you or at the forum?

The reason I ask is that I cannot imagine that you would do or say anything that would justify a ban - even though you seem to accept the situation with eqanimity.

My belief is that robust arguments and discussions are the way to get a subject thoroughly thrashed out. Just as you would not send a pugilist out with his arms tied behind his back, surely you would not send a wordsmith out with a gag?

So, who actually benefited from your absence?

You know what they say about kitchens!

You might not like what I say - but I believe it.
Build it, make money, then build some more
Some old school smarts would help - and here's to Rob Toth for his help. Bloody good stuff, even the freebies!

I'm glad you're back, Steven. You were absoutely right on for what you said. However, even the greatest wordsmiths must sometimes mince their own words.

    Welcome back Steve!

Where did you get banished from while you were banished here? Or have you taken up fortune telling in your absence. Better be careful what you wish for...

I was almost banished from my home for driving my wife crazy because of
      my banishment here.

      I think she's happier I'm back than I am.

    Welcome back Steven,

I realise you won't be able to appreciate this yet, but "time" is a great healer, (for all things). And that sort of does tend to put things into perspective.

Mybe, when you get up the morning, a listen to "The Byrds" singing - "turn, turn, turn,"

All the best to you and yours.

I better leave it at that, lest I 'put my foot in my mouth'. bleh.

OOH! OOH! I know, but I digress. The only thing I'll add is who was their lead singer at the time?

      Rock on!

Don't think of it as a banishment, but that we finally forced you to take a darn vacation! LOL

So, what did you do on your vacation?

      Write a few songs?

      Pump out a few products?

      Sleep in everyday?

Walk outside and realize there is a physical world outside of the internet (... so I've heard)?

Hey Steve, welcome back. Little time out for reflection does us good some time. Trust me on that one - the child of parents who raised the most obstinate child they could have ever imagined having.

My mother used to love Holiday's Steve. She died on "Devils night" - the night before Halloween, one of my favorites. It was a few years before I could enjoy that one again, but then I realized that she would be very unhappy finding that I did not celebrate a favorite time because I was missing her. So every halloween I just have a drink to the most wonderful woman who ever lived. I think that your mother would rather you celebrate her life than mourn her loss as well.
