It is commonly known as "shellac." Many popular candies are made shiny with bug poo (AKA "shellac," "resinous glaze," "confectioner's glaze").

You know, I am amazed that I even eat food anymore. I was under the impression that shellac was made from insect shells. YEAH, not much better, but, oh well...

I STILL remember when I was about 3yo, opened a small box of raisons, and a bunch of small insects crawled out. When I was about 12 or 13, I opened a large Hershey bar, and saw an insect pupa in it.

I used to LOVE cashews, but then found out how THEY are shelled. And how raisons and plums are dried?
