Holus Turns Any 2D Video into a 3D Hologram on your Desk

Watch the videos, displaying a 3d stereoscopic, hologramatic type view above your Iphone, Ipad's or even tv screen (if laid flat) has been around for a while, instructions for making a little flat topped pyramid out of perspex, glass or even transparent plastic are rife on you-tube, then place it upside down in the middle your ipad, iphone etc and fire up one of the many hologram rendered video's on youtube. These are ones where duplicate moving images are rendered in 4 planes, left right, top and bottom. Presto, a desktop Hologram type tv at last. Well, not quite.

What this company seem to be hinting is that using some extra hardware and software, their device which really is one of these pyramids inverted in a box with a monitor on top, essentially upside down, has, or will have the capability in rendering ANY!! 2D image from any input into this 3d, Hologram type view in real time. So, you can display any flat image in 3d effect and watch movies that way. Coming soon to a table top near you.

Watch this...

More info about the device (no selling link)

Your wish is my command, make one for your Iphone or tablet using an old cd case or two, You just need a setsquare, exacto knife and some glue. Bring up your holo video's from the load available on you-tube. Instructions below....... PS when you watch the how to, you will gasp at how easy it is and the fact that the Holus is just a larger prettied up version using a monitor displaying downwards, all in a nice enclosure, You could make one of these too.

Ah, so you have gone further with the how too Jill. Using software to make the vids. You will see a lot of vid's on Y/T where people make larger, more elaborate versions of the pyramids.

What I want to know, could you watch a movie or clip streaming from your computer, or tv reception device (whatever) into the Holus and would it display like what we have seen. The answer now is probably no, You would either have to run the picture through a software/hardware device that splits it into 4 renderings of the clip or use extra optics in the Holus itself.

Even then, it would not work because you would have to record the movie using some variant of a 3d camera, capturing from different angles but, that technology is already in place. They have actually made hologram movies in the past but people can only view them sitting directly in front of the screen.

The problem with with flat screen 3d is that you have to use the glasses to view, this hurts peoples eyes, The wife can not even see 3d. This will get around it. Although this is not high or brand new tech, thanks to advances in other areas I see a great future for it.

PS Don't tell Claude this but if you look down the selection of videos available, there are some of scantily clad dancing ladies, I have even seen one of a cat. Real footage

In my house, this would definitely win the award for 2016's "Most Silly, Expensive Purchase That Everyone Found Amusing For 5 Minutes And Then Never Looked At Again".

            Well of course I did!

And it's a simple camtasia edit too!

(I will do it with screenflow).

I have 4 different cameras that could be so easily set up for this to get my 4 shots.

Sit in a round black curtain, just let the cameras peek out from 4 corners, play around with some spot lights or flashlights to light just me up, and I'll have to just sync and edit.

Holding a candle would probably be effective.

Tell a nice campfire spooky story or something.

Or to save much more time I could test this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...ay.video&hl=en

Another thing to consider in figuring out what freaking smart phone I'll be getting.

There are 3d camcorders available but if you type in Holographic cameras, all you get is star wars stuff. The evidence is clear that it can be done though based on some real recordings of the dancing girls. That audio visual conferencing in the video suggests that it can be done in real time too.

Using that app, or a pc equivalent would speed things up once you have the file.

Buried somewhere I have a holographic camera.

I'm wondering if there is some way to rip it open and rig it to my old ipod.

It has 3 lenses on the front so it would take a triple negative. I used to be able to send the negatives away and they would send back 3d photos.

hmm. That is a project to be done when I am bored and find that camera.

I'm not entirely sure that what you are referring to is holograpic. Perhaps just 3d which requires glasses to view. True Holography, you must be able to have more or less, a 360 degree view of something, be able to look/peer round it, see it from the side etc, and see it without glasses. That implies multiple camera angles. So in a realtime stream, the subject (say in the skype type cast) would have to be sitting in a room surrounded by cameras or cams and software merging it altogether as one image. Then, the app like you showed us renders it into 4 images.

Yes - 3d - but glasses will not be needed.

                    It gives 3 perspectives.

Those were all mashed in to actual prints with some kind of raised plastic on them so glasses were not needed.

I used to put regular film in that camera and when looking at the negatives it was a 3 way split.

Thinking to take that 3 way split and split it into video screen - cut it and angle it properly.

Interesting, never heard of that, shades of a 3d printer. Wonder if you can do anything with that?

So this free app is for windows 10, computer, smart phone, tablet. The guy is obviously taking 4 pictures around someones head and put them together on the app to create the holo effect, static picture.

                      https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/stor...m/9wzdncrdc2gz

I see the way making movies could be done. Most people will watch them from one angle so the main scene will be mainly front facing, where all the action is. However, as well, they will film it from all sides simultaneously, 4 in total (or more), so people can peer around or walk round the scene.

So Jill, get 4 hd webcams or recorders and mount them on tripods around you. Set them to record at the same time. Four or more independent recordings. Then, each clip is put into the app and re-saved as the movie. Pretty easy once you get the angles and height right.

How to do that live though, streaming 4 feeds that will show up in the splitter app in realtime. It's only a question of some suitable hardware/software.
