A Marketing Lesson From a Nurse, a Dying Man and a One Eyed Dog?

It sounds like a bad joke but in fact it's a heart warming
and somewhat morbid story

I couldn't make this stuff up if I tried.

You can find the news story online for yourself if it tickles
your fancy

But here's the short version

An elderly man in Whitley County hospital was on the fast
track to death's door

In fact he was ringing it's door bell furiously trying to get in

He had one last wish and that was to see his dog Bubba
again

And rightly so dogs are not allowed in the hospital

So the nurses had a choice to make.

Follow the rules and let this man die a lonely death never to
see his pooch again

Or put up a middle finger to the establishment and risk their
jobs and possibly the health of the other patients to bring a
mangy mutt through the doors

I'm all for putting up middle fingers but as you may have
guessed I'm not really a dog person (Shock horror I know)

Get over it!

But luckily for the old chap the nurses are mutt lovers and
decided to break the rules and track down the one eyed
chihuahua

So taking time out from saving peoples lives they went
in search of Bubba

They discovered he had been picked up by animal control
after his owner was hospitalized.

The nurses tracked him down and found he was in foster
care

(I didn't even know dogs got foster care. Did you?)

Anyway long story short the nurses found Bubba
and reunited him with his dying owner

And "apparently" both dog and owner felt a little better

Then there was tears all around and blah blah blah

You know that soppy stuff

I never found out if the old man died soon after or not.

The reporters left that bit out of the story I guess they
wanted to only show the happy ending

Because that's how life always is right? Only Disney endings.

Anyway why am I sharing this story with you.

Well its because there is a powerful marketing message
in there if you read between the lines

If you're feeling a little slow today I will give you a helping hand.

By the nurses breaking the rules they got media coverage,
and then dog lovers globally shared it and even me a
self confessed anti-dog man is telling you about it

Imagine the impact that this little story has had on the
Whitley County Hospital

How many people do you think would now donate to that
hospital if they needed it.

And it all started from breaking the rules and caring
deeply about their patients (customers / subscribers / clients)

Get it?

If you where a nurse at the hospital would you try and find Bubba
for the old man?

And is anyone else in here not a big fan of dogs or is it just me lol

Here are some Images Of Bubba and the old man.
