Elon Musk, A True Visionary: Starlink

He may have just been diagnosed with mild Covid incidentally.

Just been watching a few vids with people testing out his "Starlink" Satellite Internet service. He's sending up thousands of satellite's to blanket the Earth with fast internet via Sat. Due to the task not being completed he's sending out invitations to people to buy the dishes ($499.00 and pay 99 bucks a month for the connection in just the area's covered, over here it's mainly north America.

For years we have had just one sat internet service for those who live out in the middle of nowhere (not applicable to people who live in towns, cities etc, yet anyway) and can either not get internet or just a very slow speed. Called Hughes Net. Very slow and unreliable by all accounts and so many complaints. One Sat at a height of 480 miles above the Earth services it. Perhaps that's why. The sat dish has to be installed by them and pointed to a fixed position. Snow and rain interfere with the connection. The connection is no more than about 18mgb a second on a good day.

So along comes Musk and launching these Sat's in a lower orbit's and provides the dish as a kit. The dish can be put anywhere with a view of the sky, either mounted or just set on a provided stand in your back yard. It is plugged into the mains and moves and tracks the sat's by itself. On top of that the dish itself is heated so melts the snow. In testing, even with overcast conditions, rain or snow, the connection is rarely lost, unlike Hughes Net. People are reporting speeds from 50 to 200 megs per second. Amazing for a Sat. It is also portable, as long as you can provide power, sling it in a car and go out to the lake for a few weeks. Amazing. Here's a vid of a guy setting one up, very easy.
He hopes to get the price down and provide faster speeds and the more Sat's he puts up, the better that will be. Thing is, once up, he can offer it to the whole world. I can also see a phone connection being viable with it in the future.

I think he has caught the cable and phone operators with there pants down.

And we have his services to NASA doing well too.

Musk truly is the Tony Stark of our era.

Slow and unreliable, doesn't surprize me from thousands of small satellites buzzing about, (interlacing doesn't equate to more power).

I love TESLA also, but not so much yesterday.

And agree he is like Tony Stark, (he was actually in one of the Ironman movies.

If you read it properly you would see that I was referring to Hughes Net as the one being slow and unreliable. a single Sat in orbit. Star-link is proving to be fast and very reliable.
