Does Black Friday Offer Real Bargains?

A recent UK report says Black Friday (adopted in the UK) only offers real savings on a fraction of it's products. Prices can vary throughout the year quite considerably on the price, (especially as they have mini sales days) of a product during it's shelf lifetime. Look at Amazon prices, they can vary quite a lot.

What we are looking at here is Doorbusters. A limited run on certain products with limited supplies advertised to get people through the door. I used to work in retail and we did this in our store. One year it was amongst others, a specific washing machine. We were sold out by 10 am. Then you got the odd few customers coming in at 2pm getting angry that no more are available. Even when you point out that it says only 20 available in the Ad. They still get upset and argue with you, lol. I hated working in retail sometimes.

So, what's your experience, ever queued up outside a store in the hope of snagging a bargain price on something. What were some of your best buys?

Maybe I shouldn't reply on this thread as I have nothing to add to your question.

But I will say that I do not get the hysteria of all this. I just do not have an inkling in my bones to get up 4am Friday to participate in it all

The Black Friday frenzy has always been less about the actual prices than the Fear Of Missing Out. But now that there are deals available throughout the year and every retailer apparently feels it necessary to join in the Black Friday party, the effect is bound to diminish. This year, I've seen companies running "Black Friday" promotions all month.

    Hey,

Yeah, that's what I've also heard about Black Friday. Prices can change greatly, and occasionally those doorbusters are like a rush. But I've never stood in queue. I like to purchase online more. I once saved a few hundred bucks on a laptop after finding an incredible offer. What you say? Have you ever waited in queue to get a great Black Friday deal?

If you keep your eyes open, there's stuff to be found, but it isn't what it used to be.

Raising a child is akin to knowing you're getting fired in 18 years and having to train your replacement without actively sabotaging them.

It's always entertaining to turn on the news Friday night, to watch the people act like schoolyard bullies. All for a few bucks savings. I feel bad for the workers who are forced to go in early to have to deal with the rush.

In a previous life, I stood in line at 4:00 AM. I forget what we were looking for but we found it/them and were happy with our purchase. But I swore I would never do that again. Bunch of uncivilized idgits running around like chickens with their heads chopped off, pushing and shoving, yelling, etc.

I never took part but my family did up to like ten years ago. Now it's not worth it. If they need something they go to the store that has it for the best price. Or they order it online and get it shipped in a day or two.
