A Tech Tip If You Need To Reinstall Windows 10 or 11

I found this out to my detriment. To give my older mini PC to a friend I wanted to reinstall Windows 11 afresh which would lose all my files and folders.. So, I go to start, and search "reset". This brings up Reset PC in the listing below which you click, a screen comes up and you click the Reset PC button.

You then have a choice, you can choose to Keep your Files and reinstall or Remove Everything and reinstall so selected Remove Everything.

Two final choices, Cloud Download or Local Reinstall, choose Cloud Download!!!!

I made the mistake of choosing Local Reinstall which obviously pulls the installation from a folder on your HD. Which, to my dismay was that when using this installation, you pulled up the screen for Windows Security or Defender, you got a blank screen in the window that comes up.. So the windows installation saved must have had a slight corruption.

Cloud Download pulls down the latest version of Windows 11 from Microsoft's server.

All attempts to try solutions online to fix this issue, without the need to reinstall windows failed!! I am sure the security is working though, just not displaying the status and settings. Apparently a known problem. The download is up to 4 gigs so will take a varying amount of time depending on the speed of your connection. But, it will go on to reinstall after that, so come back later.

So, this is being current, and will let you know when my friend does this and see if it fixes things.

Always best to have the latest. This was Windows Pro by the way.
