So After All These Years I Finally Get Covid

I thought I was free and clear after avoiding getting it during it's "Golden Years"

But the Wednesday before last I got what I thought, an average cold and developed a cough. The cold symptoms are all but gone, the cough, which is not severe remains, but lessening slowly. Something that has never happened before, the near loss of taste and smel which came after the cold had subsided. I went out with a friend the Sunday before it hit and they have the same symptoms which started around the same time.

So while it is being far, far less and dangerous than the many horror stories I have heard, it is annoying. I'm told my taste and smell will most likely return (it is not 100 percent gone) I had got the initial two vaccinations. I just feel a tad under the weather right now.

Anyone else here had it? Perhaps a later version like I have. How long did it last, what was it like?

And just a note to say that obviously, although it is now more a background illness like the flu and not so dangerous, it is still out there.

  • Well glad you are okay and it didn't turn worse on you. I know you have disclosed some of your underlying health issues here in the OT forum so it has to be a relief you were not deeply affected by it
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • Yeah had it three times, with Delta being the worst or no worse than a nasty flu, no unnecessary vaccinations and no unnecessary poles up ,my nose.

I really just wanted to see if l really would be gasping for breath which never happened, or about the only time l did is when l tried putting on one of those unnecessary masks.

The one you currently have or #2 for me lasted two weeks "for me" with virtually no sense of smell which is cool for cutting up onions and that slowly returned and also l was able to work outside and get away with it.

I haven't had a cold/flu for the last two years which says a lot about ignoring mass media and continuing to ignore it.

I would be more worried about the Covid Vaccinations and Boosters than Covid itself, and l am seeing first hand with my family how safe and affective that shit really is, l wish you luck.

  • I have not had COVID but several of my friends and
family had it and a couple of them died.

Are you taking any meds, either prescription or over
the counter cold and flu remedies?

I stay stocked up on all those things as I hate to be
sick and prefer to be prepared, I avoid trying to get
them once I've already come down with illness.

I ordered some white pine needle tea, it supposedly
helps relieve symptoms, but I have not tried it yet
just wanted it in case I need it.

I recommend you get plenty of rest, eat well, and
stay hydrated until it passes, and be careful.

  • We had it a couple of months ago. It was very minor compared to the first round a couple of years ago. I thought I was going to die the first time, but this last time there wasn't even typical bad cold symptoms besides a little runny nose and maybe a slight cough (I forget if I had a cough or not that's how bad it was LOL). It was over in a couple of days versus two weeks before.

It's still killing people here, especially the elderly. There were a couple of deaths in our little town within the last month or so.

I'm glad it's not bad, but still take care of yourself and don't let it get out of hand.

  • Cheryl and I have both had every vaccination, and our flu shots. So far, we don't seem to have had it. Although it's possible that we got it and didn't know...because of the vaccines.

    • The vaccines of course don't stop you getting it but reduce the severity. My initial impressions were, oh, just a cold and a bit of a cough, which persisted longer than it should. But, the loss of smell and taste has gone on for weeks. Just getting it back now, but it's slow going. Never had this before.
  • I have three doses of Moderna in me but still got COVID twice. I know the vaccines don't stop it but maybe they prevent the sickness being worse. I have underlying health issues that almost guarantees I'm going to get sick when things go around. My downfall was letting my guard down at home. My wife infected me twice. LOL

  • That sucks...

I hope you get to feeling better soon.

Your post reminded me of the post Gordon started something like 4 years ago when the whole covid thing was in its early stages. It had thousands of comments.

I think some people got their feelings hurt and no longer post.

I don't understand how people fail to realize a forum is where people discuss things...

some people get easily offended. I have no idea how they make it in the business world if they're that fragile.

    • Most forums that still discuss this are in cotton wool mode or you get punished if you bring up stuff that the mods, admin and members don't want to know about.
    • Yeah, back in the day they used to accept religious and political discussion here in the OT forum.
And let me tell you it wasn't for the thin skinned people at all lol

Gosh me and Claude would bicker back and forth on religious topics. We would pull our hair out as the discussions got really sensitive.

Funny, but I kind of miss those days

  • A while back I visited the Reddit AITA site after reading about it. Reading many of those 'stories' - you wonder how some people have the sense to keep breathing. In a week of reading those AITA posts, I think my IQ dropped about 10 pts.

I had covid in late 2020 - felt tired and not great - laid around for 7-10 days...then got over it. Took a couple weeks or more for my taste and smell to come back, though.

    EDIT:

    They don't make it.

  • Gotta hope U OK Fearo.

WE kinda forgit Covid is still around, an' though it ain't the threat it once was (bcs vaccines, info, & necessary dismissal of eedjits), once you gaht it, you clearly ain't in regulah flu or cold territory.

So evrythin' you normally do to look aftah yrself gotta be trebled rn.

  • Allen started a political thread back in the day that pissed off people from both sides, people in the middle, and people without a side. I thought some of those guys was going to go to somebody's house to continue "discussing" it " like a man." LOL Those were the days.

  • Oh good - I thought they were just dumb. My bad.

Was that right before he started the 'mind' forum that he said was largely meant to focus on herd behavior? ....and how to influence your audience?

    • Probably so. He was a master of it all. That would've been a good example of the herd. I don't even remember the details of the thread, but I remember the reaction I had and thinking about it many years later causes me to remember how I felt back then. I'm such a sheep. LOL

He wound up deleting the political thread since it was getting too nasty. That may have been the straw that caused the no politics rule.

  • I've been reading about a new 'relationship reality' (i know, dumb...right?). Apparently these days young people have 'committed relationships' with people they've never met in person.

They are 'LDRs - long distance relationship' and from what I've read they come complete with all the drama of an 'in person' relationship. There is jealousy, demands for attention, family issues, friend issues, blah de blah. My fave is the threat of 'if you don't do that (or stop doing that) ....I'm LEAVING you!!!

I find all this fascinating but one thing I don't understand - if you get mad and LEAVE a long distance relationship ...where do you GO? Do you go 'longer' distance? Can't go home to momma cause you already live there.....I'm baffled.

    • Speaking about something similar...

I read a newsletter this morning that talked about serious relationships a growing number of people are having with AI.

I guess it's getting to be pretty popular.

This is the article it was referring to:

Males probably start talking to another ldr.females just spend more time talking to one of the other dozen ldr they are in. Especially if they are getting men to send them money.

And that's the more conservative possible.

There are probably tens of thousands of men who already have feelings for their chat bots.

I have yet to use a chatbot and the last ldr I was in was someone I met in the Philippines ten years ago.
