2010 Bringing Out the Worst in Us?

  • I can't say that I've noticed this. At least, not from members that I feel I know. I've seen some trollish behavior but not in older members.

  • Well, there WERE some people that tried to skirt by the rules. And apparently they have a number of "puppets". Paul Myers wrote a number of posts about that. Anyway, all that encourages MORE to happen.

    • We're only 5 days into 2010. Give it some time. Anyways, it's a cold winter and people tend to be less friendly in cold weather.

  • I haven't seen it either --
Steve......see why I love the nonsenseical threads? LOL.

I haven't seen ya posting down here Mike....are you talking about the main forum or do you see it in here too?

I'd love to see politics back in here.........hey, if people are perceived as angry anyways what'll be the difference? We've already raked, folded, spindled, and mutilated each other to the best of our abilities so there's not much new we can say to piss each other off at this point.

  • Michael, I'm not sure about 2010, but the last few months of 2009 were quite hot in the copywriting forum, not sure if anyone was watching that soap opera over there... quite entertaining, but very appalling as well.

I'm not sure people who bicker and fight in an open forum realize how much they are hurting their business/reputation in a major way.

John Taylor broke up The Copywriters Brawl, with his post: http://www.warriorforum.com/copywrit...-heads-up.html but the severe damage was already done at that point.

As Steven W. says quite often, "I now know who NOT to do business with."

    • Damn. I missed it all! Can you post some links to some of the greatest brawls? Especially the appalling ones. :-p

    • I rarely read that section, however, I did happen to see a few threads when that was all taking place and I completely agree with your above post.

I haven't had to hire a copywriter as yet, although I was planning to at one point but after reading through that section I decided against it.

I read through two or maybe three threads and started thinking to myself, if these guys are all bitching and bickering over the most ridiculous of things, what are they going to be like to work with?

When I do need to hire a copywriter/s in the coming months I'm definitely going to be skeptical of posting in there.
  • That's why I always valued the OT forum -- people are more themselves in here and talk more about their life views in general.......and as a result of the play, you get an idea of who you would really like to partner with.

Steve can back me up on that one right now 100% as we have about the most unlikely project ever going on and it was really unlikely that either of us would have met heads via business alone. Now that project might just end up being nothing but a really fun and interesting experiment since we are both just way out of the water into areas we have never been before......but the point is, we'd never gotten together on such an endeavor through business talk alone. Sometimes you have to go where people are being themselves to see who they really are underneath all the business decorum..or lack thereof.
    Just sayin' .........

    • Yeah, this is going to be fun, though I have to admit that I am a bit
nervous about it. You'd think after over 25 years of writing songs this
would be like falling off a log, but this one is definitely going to be a
      challenge.

Truth is, it's been years since I have collaborated with anybody and in
the past, the results usually didn't turn out too well...with a few
      exceptions.

Anyway, I'm still trying to figure out how to tackle this. When I finally
come up with a solid idea, the rest (the arrangement, production, etc.)
      shouldn't be too hard.

And who knows...stranger things have hit it big.

Can you imagine me and Sal at the Grammy Awards excepting our
      trophy?

      Boy...will THAT be a sight.
  • hey...its a new decade...we all have our ghosts from 2000-2009 to let out somewhere

I guess a lot of people are angry because the world is still messed up, the economy is still a mess, there are even more terrorist attacks, and they just broke their new year's resolution
  • Im the new kid on the block. One thing Ive noticed for sure, and it may be psychological, is that almost everyone is pretty confident that 2010 and beyond is their time to shine. I guess 2009 seems like the bottom of the barrel for a lot people. Just my opinion.
  • Well, gee Steve - I already know what I'm gonna wear!

My point in all this is that we used to talk politics in here - and there were many disagreements.... Some of us said things that really upset other people and Steve and I had a disagreement..........yet, we were able to still appreciate each other enough to continue on and actually probably understand each other much better than we'd have just talking business. Other people have said things that I disagree with on a level that I would never consider doing business with them.

That's all good though - because it's like that in the real world, too. There are people in your own town you wouldn't consider doing business with....because you know them.

For some reason people are just extremely upset by any disagreement and feel that everything always has to go along smoothly. The truth is that it isn't when things are going smoothly that we learn the most important things about each other.

Sometimes arguments get out of hand and need to be shut down, but that doesn't mean we are always at our best when being on our best behavior either.

Maybe the disagreements are becoming pronounced now because it's a new year and a new decade - and we are facing hard times. People are generally re-thinking their positions on a lot of issues and directions they want to take.

It's all good. People will continue to agree or disagree, get to know each other and decide who they wanna work with and who they don't. We don't have to be as cohesive as a church choir for the world to run just fine.

    • Geez I thought I was being kinder in recent months.
Heck when was the last time I told someone to bite my shiny metal ass
There are a couple here in the OT that I have lost some respect for because of their postings though.
