But, I am still breathing.

Kim, Glad to see you doing better my friend.

Ask your DR about melatonin for the insomnia. Your brain should produce it
normally although with the surgery it may be a little shell shocked.

Unless you need heavy doses of it, it is an over the counter item.
It will not make you sleepy but rather ease the thoughts going through
your head so that you can relax and get some sleep.

Just ask. It can't hurt to ask and he/she will most likely say yes since the
brain normally produces it anyway.

Still sending prayers your way!
Get Well Soon!

Have a Great Day and a Sleepfull Night!

Melatonin is ok, Dr had never heard of Gravol, but upon researching it at home Its called that in Canada and other names depending on where you are. Here is the info from Wiki.

Kim, I have melatonin myself, but didn't mention it as it warns against taking it if you have kidney disease or are taking blood pressure meds.

So, if your doc gave you the ok, that's great! Hope you get some sleep real soon.

I will have to look into that before I get/take some. I'm too much of a skeptic to just blindly do what I am told.

Today marks 3 weeks out since the surgery. Recovery is slow, but moving along. Getting a kidney has been out of my thoughts since the surgery, instead its a one day at a time situation. None pf the Drs have come out and said it,but it sounds like even the possibility of it would be at least a year away. Either way I am just happy to be here.

Kim, I honestly believe things happen for a reason, so don't be surprised when that kidney becomes available when you least expect it.

Hello Kim and all.

How are you doing? Fine I hope.

Not around much - I am bizzy bizzy with a software conversion and worked 17 hours yesterday and 15 the day before. yes today i am a walking zombie with chest pains, fried eyes, stiff, etc..

I agree with WaterOtter:
"Kim, I honestly believe things happen for a reason, so don't be surprised when that kidney becomes available when you least expect it."

the thing I am so thankful for is that having a repaired heart, you are in better shape than a lot of people walking around with timebombs in their chest.

this to my mind makes it a lot more likely you will live long enough to find a kidney AND much more likely not to have problems with the transplant process having a good strong ticker.

I have to bump this from the dregs in page 2 again today.

Hey Kim - if you get a chance you might want to change the title here to update to current date - that way people don't get used to seeing the same thing and just ignore it.

Hope everything is going well and you are feeling better.

Pat, title changed. A good day for it too because from 3AM till 11AM I was in the emergency room. I was having severe chest pains. Diagnosis? Pericarditis.
Pericarditis - PubMed Health
I am home now and fell a bit better, but for a while there I thought it was another heart attack. The Drs said it is not uncommon to get after surgery.
They gave me a script for Indomethacin but the literature that came with it sounds pretty dangerous to me.

On another note, the transplant center called me and chewed me out for not telling them about my bypass surgery, and informed me that I was off the list again. No surprise there.
Its back to one day at a time.

That so sucks Kim about the transplant list but it wasn't unexpected.

I still stand by my belief (and hope they can see the same thing) that you are a much better candidate for a kidney because of the fact that your heart has been repaired.

There will be an answer someday.

hang in there...

Are you off the list just for a certain length of time after the bypass?

Oh, about the melatonin or other drugs... don't ask the doctor. They rarely know much about the side effects or drug interactions. As the pharmacist instead.

Pat,
"hang in there..."

You know I will.

Tina,
She didn't give me a finite time frame, but they are telling me a year before I am fully recovered from the heart surgery, and the heart dr has to clear me to the clinic,So I'm guessing its going to be about a year.

Good suggestion about the pharmacist.

Really sorry to hear this, Kim. I hope you chewed back on them a bit when they gave you some heck for not telling them. Perhaps when you have healed a little your doctor will give them a jingle and tell them that you need to get moving on this and to get you back on the list and taken care of NOW. One can only hope.

Today I go back to the heart dr for my second visit since the operation. I am hoping for some little things, like being told I can drive again and that I can pick up light chores around the house. Doing nothing can be very frustrating at times.
Next week I start cardio rehab which means I will go to the hopsital twice a week and exercise under supervision. Have mixed feelings about that.
Will report back once I get back from the drs.

You shared more than a penny when you bumped this thread so everyone would know that they could go to the warrior allstars site at http://www.warriorallstars.com and find out more about Kim and be a part of the Warrior's endeavor to take the bulls by the horns together and act as one, to be there for our fellow Warrior in arms ... Kim Congratulations, That's the best news I've had today!

Especially after learning that my youngest grand daughter(4yrs old)
figured out what a mouse trap is/was/does!

Jun,thank you. Trust me, a dollar donation is appreciated just as much as a hundred dollar donation. If it wasn't for the kindness and generosity of those here on The Warrior Forum things would be far worse for me than they are. I am thankful every day.

We all have different priorities at different times. Thats why its important to get alot of people involved because all pistons dont fire at once.... but if there is alot of awareness spread over a large area, then there is always "Some" piston firing. Today, Jun was one of those pistons... Jun was the piston that made the difference in today...If one or two fire every day then the needed finances are there.

Thats beautiful.

Kim, thanks a lot for keeping us all up to speed here, I was going to send this by PM but I think a good turn deserves recognition.

I bought something recently off Paul Myers and there was a bit of a weird mix up (mainly my brain having an off moment). You see I signed up to his list, unknown to me, via Suzanne (Sbucciarel). Anyhow, she got the comission and refunded it to me because she didn't know what it was.

After a bit of going back and forth, we realised it was in fact money that belonged to Suzanne. She decided, on the advice of Paul that, as this $27 was going all over the place and so Paypal wouldn't get iffy, that I should give the money to you on her behalf. She very modestly said not to mention it but I think you should be aware that I just put that money towards your fund and that it came from Suzanne.

Wibble, bark, my old man's a mushroom etc...

Richard,
I thank you, Paul, and especially Suzanne. Since December 2006 when my kidney failure was diagnosed, till now, I have gone from earning what most would consider a decent living to, besides my monthly disability check, which really is nothing, surviving off the generosity of others. One thing I have learned is how overwhelming the generosity of others can be. Thank you all again.

Hey Kim,
How did the rehab intake go? More importantly....how are you feeling ???? Much better I hope...getting past those first few weeks are tough, I know.
You/yours always in my daily thoughts and prayers

Andie,
Yesterday turned out to be an orientation day.Tomorrow I will actually start the exercising/rehab part. On the outside, I look like I am healing well, but as they told me yesterday, the skin heals faster than the bone. I actually am looking forward to seeing how this goes. To be honest I have been pretty scared to do much of anything for fear of it causing a problem in my healing process,so to be slowing given a routine to follow with nurses right there (and the emergency room 100 yards away) will increase my confidence. While I can't say I am noticably feeling better day to day, I can look back and realize how much better I feel since the operation. When I think back on how I elt one short month ago,I can appreciate how far I have come. I still have intermittent chest pain, what the nurse was telling me is called incision pain, and a strange feeling like an 8.5 X 11 piece of paper is glued inside me chest. That is more a weird sensation than actual pain though.
I guess this is a long winded way of saying I am getting better every day!

Kim you're an absolute legend fella.

Really though, I feel a bit bad getting those thanks because it was all Suzannes idea to give it to you. I'm sure Pauls contributed to you before and I've done so myself a few times but those thanks should all go to Suzanne.

It's nice you appreciate people for helping but to me, it's a human obligation to help people that need it, it's karma. I was helped by a friend 8 years ago when I really needed it and I make sure I do my best to help others when I can and you, good chap, being such an inspiration for so many, deserve it 500%.

So, on that note, to anyone whose not Kim reading this, take the time to see if you can cough up a few more bucks to help a man with mental strength of a true warrior.

Keep going Kim, I'm 100% you'll get there chap.

Wibble, bark, my old man's a mushroom etc...

Good to hear!! I know it is slow going but 'slowly but surely' there will come a day when you actually realize you feel nearly 'normal' and didn't have all the healing aches/pains. Just stick with it and another month from now you will be even further along.
Oddly enough, even 15 yrs later if I cough or sneeze, every great once in a while my C-section scar will twinge deep inside as a reminder of muscle long ago healed....body is a weird and amazing thing.
Glad to see you feel like being a bit longwinded on a post as well - lol

take care dear,
Andie

Good to hear Kim.

Sounds like you are at least in capable hands, as far as surgery goes anyway.

I had one quick question, when you do get back on the kidney list...do you go back where you were or start all over?

I really don't know how they prioritize that list...might be interesting for the site.

Anyway glad to hear your doing well.

Jim, don't forget to check out the kidney walk 2011 thread too!

To answer the question, I am still accruing "time" on the list which from what I understand I can get closer to getting a transplant when I do get back on.
Since they "mistakenly" called once and offered me one, then I should be pretty high up there as it is.Of course they can't ever tell me exactly how close I am because there are so many details they factor in.

I'll check out the thread, Kim.
My kid has been sick but still going to school, this morning he sounded so wheezy I let him stay home...
and did you know that may be the miracle cure science has been looking for? Drivin me nuts...finally told him... at least act sick...lol

Seems like all week I have been turning on the computer and hardly been able to visit but I'll get to the thread. Glanced once.

That's really good news that you can (more or less) go back to where you were on the kidney list.
I meant to ask you before (and I may have...still on the list for my brain transplant) how that works. Thought it might make an interesting article or post for the kidney site.

By the way we kind of got slapped by Panda...you might have noticed by the rev. Not that it was a gold mine to begin with. Thought we might have had enough inbound links to go and take care of other things, but apparently not.

I'll add a few more posts by next week.

Anywho... that's the news on this side...sounds like you may get back on the list soon then.

Stay healthy.

Jim

Andie, I have a pain in my side every time I breathe. Ive been to the hospital/emergency room twice so far and neither time can they come up with a reason,so the just say I have an inflamed ribcage. The pain is the same as a cracked/broken rib,but it should be easing up by now if that was what it is,but it isn't easing up.
Onw of my nurses at my cardio rehad said I should contact my primary care doctor and have him order a cat scan or a mri as they can pick up things x-rays miss. I will probably contact him tomorrow.

Ouch...
can't relate to what a cracked bone might feel like, but as a teen only time I had pain when breathing was a case of pleurisy (lung infection)...was sharp pain towards my back...so yes, get the scans done if things aren't going as they should.
hopefully it is fixable/treatable something....have no doubt you have long past your limit on ER visits etc. sure wish they'd get you on the right track dangit!!
<<hugs>>

Maybe you pulled a muscle in your side kim? Is that possible? I recently pulled a muscle and was down for four days... it can hurt so bad that you cant even tell where the hurt is coming from anymore, and becomes hard to describe.
