    Thanks for the story Bill

But I have a hard time believing that 4 to 5000 birds could all bump their little uncoordinated heads at the same time. Couple hundred to five hundred maybe.

I don't think they really know, I would buy mass fright, from the fireworks more than this. From what I understand birds can suddenly die from fright.

There is a site, I'll see if I can find it, part of google maps, that shows fish, animals dying all over the world en mass, whether that is due to better data and surveillance, I'm not sure.

I'll go consult with my two headed frog.

    Thanks for the article

    Jim

*edit Here is the link to google maps

Do you have ANY idea how STRONG birds are relative to anything they can do? They can bash their heads against HEAVY glass and cause a vibration in the BASEMENT of a home, and STILL survive to keep trying! I have seen that in my 4100sf home! I mean they go against my diningroom window, and I can hear them in the BASEMENT on practically the other side of the house. WOW! And they can DIVE at effectively full speed and pull out fine. Birds may have to effectively act like military fighter jets while a much LARGER foe tries to dive into them to make them a snack! Surprisingly, most that die die as a consequence of being CAUGHT!

So I don't buy the idea that they hit something in the air, or were scared, to death.

As for blunt force trauma? **********DUH***********! Just falling to the ground could do that. BESIDES, only 3 things can create that sort of effect, poison, pestilence, or extreme force.

Interesting it claims no birds were found outside that small area - doesn't explain the bird kill in Louisiana that occurred AFTER this one. Doesn't explain why so many birds appeared unable to fly and continue to die after the "event".

Hard not to remember the dying of the honeybees and how scientific evidence pointed to it as a natural event according to many articles....right up until it was discovered chemicals were killing them.

I don't know - just hope it doesn't happen again.

Some JERK, calling himself a scientist, has basically created a condition that could KILL OFF every worthwhile trait in bees! It is all but a GIVEN! It WAS taking so long that some considered it an urban legend, but NOW it is so real that people are dying and animal control is getting calls, etc.... Of course, I am talking about the africanizing of bees. It took a LONG time to make them docile, rather harmless, and yet good producers and yet one drone can change an entire hive, effectively forever, in one generation.

So anything endangering viable hives should be given the utmost priority.

It is amazing that they figure a poison is good if it merely kills the thing they are trying to kill, and they don't see the problem. HEY, FIRE can kill LOTS of things! Why don't we just create bon fires!?!?!? They figured african bees were more hardy, and so...
