Where Do I Go To Find Legitimate Investors?

Hey guys,

I am not trying to promote my website in any way, therefore I will not
even mention it or link to it in this post...

However, I am looking for an investor to invest in my website that
has over 200,000 views per month and tons of potential in the IM niche.

It's a successful IM forum and I am looking for a partner to own up to 10% of it.
Maybe even up to 20%. Preferably a fellow IM'er who could actually add
value to the business with knowledge and collaboration...

Is there a website or service out there that could connect me with the
right people/investors?

Thanks in advance for any insight...

Best,
Shane Natan

PM info on your site and stats that can meet the scrutiny of professional investors, and I can forward it to potential investors (not IM folk).

    Hey Shane,

I have found that the best way to find "real" investors is to "network" in person. Let's face it, the internet is a fantastic resource and all and don't get me wrong I'm the biggest fan of SEO on earth, but when it comes to getting someone to believe in your product and your "passion" (which they will care about the most, trust me - passion is everything to them) the most effective way to get that done is probably not "via online" and the telephone... You want to "convey" that passion and confidence in person and that will "secure" your investment... I always had to meet my investors face to face before they were going to put up hundreds of thousands of dollars... Now if your looking for smaller investments, you can try outlets like fiverr.com, (which I've found to be helpful with networking to different people, however most people on this site don't have much money) or sites like craigslist and a simple post about your business. I hope I answered your question thoroughly... Also if you'd like to know where "online" to find investors, I guess I'll share that with you cause I'm a nice guy :-P but start with a site like "seekingalpha" or linkedin.com or craigslist, any of those 3. You want to target niche investment/stock/futures websites, this is where the "people with money" are, obviously since there "investing it to begin with and there on an investment information website." So the best thing you can do is track down forums, blogs and social networks that have these types of people (seekingalpha is HUGE in the stock/futures world, I'll give you one more freebie then after this you'll have to pay me for a list :-P I would also go to a site called minyanville, people on that site have A LOT of money too, search for those niche outlets...

There's another approach entirely you can take but it's to long to explain here and it involves the radio believe it or not, but not in the sense that your thinking of it, trust me... If you'd like to discuss this more you can just visit my site at thenerdblurb.com and go to HOME > CONTACT and contact me at the number on the page, ask for Jeremiah.

I hope I've helped you out!

    Cheers,

Just one more quick freebie, why not, when searching for the radio outlets, search for investment radio station networks and then FIND THERE FORUMS, those people HAVE MONEY. If you want to know the sites I use specifically, again you'll have to contact me by visiting tnbhosting.com or thenerdblurb.com the number is on both.

    Cheers!

Shane, there are groups of what are called angel investors all over the country. I would suggest finding some of them in your area and networking with them. build some relationships first and find out what they're looking for in pitches/investments and then apply. In the venture capital community networks - personal introductions - are key to getting a deal.
    good luck,

For the purpose of clarity, you should know that Venture Capitalists won't get anywhere near a project like this. Basically it's because of the small (relative) size of the project. What you need to keep in mind is that VCs need huge projects because it is far easier to manage 4 or 5 good sized projects than it is 20 or 30 smaller ones, which is actually the size projects Angel Investors participate in.

This is just anecdotal, but it may be enlightening nonetheless...

A friend of mine teamed up with a friend of his who represented a Pre-Fab housing company and together they got the rights to sell the houses in Hawaii as an exclusive territory. What they were lacking was funding.

I was having a meeting with a guy and his company that I have helped develop several consumer products for, who is a VC in his own right. When our meeting took a break and it was just him and I sitting their chatting I thought I'd take the time to introduce the idea of perhaps him taking a look at what my friend had put together. They had a solid opportunity, and he has the bucks.

So I said to him "You invest in real estate projects, don't you?" He said he did and I proceeded to give him the 30,000 ft view of my buddies proposition.

He listened curiously and then said to me "Do you know I recently bought the building next door (pointing to a 200,000 sq ft building)? I said yes, I was aware that he had done that.

He then told me he had paid $5,000,000 for the building, invested another $300,000 in it and just closed a sale on the building for $13,500,000. That's a $8MM profit in less than six months...

Which is why, he explained, it's not worth his time or money to play around with small projects, which is universally true with VCs.

Angel Investors are the way to go with smaller projects and as much fun as it is to think a VC would be interested in a project it is basically a waste of energy to try and persue that avenue.

Thanks for the insight Bill... I am looking for someone who is willing to invest in a great opportunity... It doesn't have to be a VC. It could be
an investor of any level or even a fellow Warrior! Someone in this business
        (IM niche) would be ideal.

        Best,
        Shane

Send me a pm with what you're seeking and I'll have a look. Not guaranteeing anything as my project plate is quite full, but you never know.

    Hello Shane:

Finding a qualified, honest investor to help your website is truly a challenge. Whatever route you take, be sure you have a solid contract and all your ducks are in a row.

    Good luck!
