Hi,

I'm looking for an adventure novel. I like the style like 'The Hobbit', and where the good guys win, feel-good, dragons, adventure, etc.
For adults though.

Can you recommend any novels like this?

Thanks.

Best regards,
Thomas

The great thing about reading the Talisman (assuming you like it), is that from there you could also read the sequel Black House. Also, both of those books tie into the Dark Tower series which is another great read.

I would recommend Shogun by James Clavell. But I don't how authentic to Japanese culture it is.

I didn't like Taipan or Noble House by James Clavell because those presented Hong Kong in a very scurrilous manner and that was quite offensive at first. He made Hong Kong people looked like perverted sexual maniacs and compulsive obscene swearers. The swearing in Noble House has just got to be seen to be believed. But now I know there is some truth in it, but still there is a lot of exaggeration.

I second Lee Child. Jack Reacher is the man! The older Prey books by John Sandford were excellent. The newer books, say anything after 2003, aren't as good. Any Vince Flynn, as well.

If you want something more in the fantasy realm, a la "The Hobbit," I recommend "Game of Thrones." It is the first of six (at least), so the series will keep you tied up for a while.

Two more and I'm done: "The Historian" is excellent if you like historical fiction. It's an adventure that spans the globe in search of Vlad the Impaler. 800 pages and I read it in a weekend. I literally couldn't put it down.

"A Walk in the Woods" by Bill Bryson. It's about his attempt to hike the Appalachian Trail. Great book. Funny as hell. I consider it an adventure-based book, but of a more light-hearted nature.
