Growing up sucks I think. Do you miss your childhood?

I sometimes go back to my childhood and cherish those moments I spent with family and friends and I think I was happier back then than now. Anything similar?

    The only thing that's changed for me is I have bills and responsibilities. I never truly "grew up".

        But you know what? I would have never guessed that you didn't have a wonderful childhood at all. I think you are an amazing, intelligent and upstanding human being and for that, in having a less than desirable childhood, I give you kudos!

    Life is such a strange game, when we are young we have some happiness when we grow up we have other problems.

    I think worse feeling in the world is being lonely or surrounded by devils. I feel so sometimes, more when i am growing up.

    Children are tonnes better than us adults in several ways...

    when I was a kid I used to make go karts out of scrap wood and I got the wheels from and old baby buggy, my kids laugh at me every time I tell this story.
    I had so much fun making them.

      That's exactly how I want my son (2) to do things someday. Right now, it's Lego which he loves, but I want him to eventually graduate to making cool things with junk.

    It's been so long I can't remember my damn childhood!

    I seem to recall lots of frustration and confusion...oh yeah
    and acne...

    All in all I wouldn't say I miss my childhood or even my teenage
    years. That was then and this is now and, honestly, I think
    I'm happier now. More secure, comfortable and confident within
    myself than I ever was when I was a child.

        I believe in choosing to be happy. Thinking about childhood being happier or hoping to be happy in the future just eliminates your ability to be happy in the RIGHT NOW.

        You can choose to dwell on the negative and use the past as a crutch or you can choose to focus on the positive and make the decision to be happy.

        I have bad days, just like everyone else, but I refuse to allow anyone else to control how I feel and how I think. Happiness depends on what's inside, not on what's outside.

    I look back with nostalgic fondness on various periods of my life, from my childhood on through each of the many decades that followed. There were some tough times, yes, but there were many great times.

    I think what I miss the most is the innocence and freedom. It's like they say: we don't truly know what we've got until it's gone.

    I have a slight case of Asbergers so I wouldn't want to go back to childhood when I had no clue how to deal with the other kids. It took me till my early twenties to learn how to mostly function normally socially so I wouldn't mind going back to say 22 or 23. Those were great years! Old enough to make your own decisions. Old enough that adults start taking you seriously. Lots and lots of sex! Young enough to have nearly unlimited energy. I loved those years!

    Ya some may hate their childhood for some reason but I believe many still love those "old good days". But it has always been like this that a baby is born, have his childhood funs, grows up and becomes adult and I guess he becomes less excited for things - loads of concerns. And he/she gets married and continue living in a new environment with lots of concerns for life. And having a baby and the cycle continues.

    Great post. I often think about childhood and all the joys that went with it.

    Growing up to me means more nagging from the better half, more responsibility, less time for fun and overall no time for the simple things in life like flying a kite, watching Fonzie on 'Happy Days' on TV, going on school trips or riding a skate board. God I miss those days!

      Good for you.

      Of course I don't know your details but I've dated a girl or two who have had to preformed emotional surgeries on childhood wounds. I was, and remain in great admiration of the efforts they put in to rebuilding their lives.

        I don't miss my childhood, but I cherish it.

        During that time in my life I learned at a pace that hasn't been nor probably could be, matched by any other time in my life. I learned what to do as well as what not to do. I learned what I could do and what I couldn't, what I should do and what I shouldn't, and what happens if I did it anyway.

        Oh, the life lessons in simplicity I learned back then and built upon later. Which is my point exactly. Our childhoods are the building blocks of who we are today, the foundation our very lives are built upon.

        I don't think growing up sucks, but is a vital part of who we are, the good, the bad and the ugly. They all brought life lessons to learn.

        I know one thing for sure though...if given the chance, I would turn down a do over.

    I do miss my childhood. It was the time when my father was still alive, when I had 4 best friends, when money did not matter and the only thing I had to worry about was to not miss an episode of my favorite tv show.

    Even though I grew up, my father dies and lost my best friends, I am still thankful as they've created a memory that I will cherish for as long as I live. I am very lucky and happy to have the people around me right now.
