And the site!

An antigravity propulsion mechanism

Doesn't seem that far fetched considering rockets pump out and ignite fuel that makes them move against gravity, so....

What if they're not stars? What if they are holes poked in the top of a container so we can breath?

Now come on master, Shane gives you a perfectly explained concept with all sorts of diagrams, pictures and squiggly maths calculations that only he and I understand and we get a non committal reply like that. You should be excited. Its a flying spinning top (or several of them) and using its inertial properties for something good and useful at last, About time someone conceptualized this idea. A rocket pushes against itself, same effect here.

The thing even has testicles. Its a winner.

Thank you for bringing this to my attention Shane.

Since when does having testicles necessarily make you a 'winner'? Come on feminist warriors on the forum, give this cheeky whippersnapper a tongue-lashing!

          I'll buy the video.

You pretty well summarized the theory right here. In the same way, I can levitate by simply contracting all my muscles at the same time. It's really the same theory.

Gyroscopes are fascinating though. I've stared at one for several minutes, while it was held up by a string at one end...and it refused to drop.

There was a professor once that used gyroscopes at the end of old time barbells (they were hollow, of course) to prove he had superhuman strength. He would lift the barbell easily, but then challenge someone to lift the end of the barbell, and it wouldn't budge. Of course, the barbell still weighted the same, but it really really wanted to stay horizontal to the floor. One night, someone just lifted it in regular fashion, and the trick was uncovered.

And I'll be the first to admit, that I still don't understand completely why gyroscopes have the properties that they do. But anti-gravity isn't one of those properties.

Yes of course your right, no one has discovered true anti-gravity yet which is defined as reducing, nullifying or cancelling out entirely the effects of gravity on a body/craft etc..

The biggest effort with our current technology is to drive a conventional rocket through the dense air of the Earth to escape it and the Earths gravity as well as lifting the crafts own weight (defined by the Earths gravity initially) to get it up there, once away from it for the most part the ship just has to push against itself in a near vacuum. A lot easier. Makes you wonder how a craft based on this method would perform in a gravity free vacuum speed wise.

Going off at a tangent and I know you will chastise me for this. (or tounge lash) lets entertain some of the small amount of ufo sightings and descriptions of behaviour that MAY be credible, simply because it gives us ideas on what could hold them up. There are a few consistincies in the observations of their reported flying prowess that I find interesting.

My contenders are some form of electromagnetic field or electrostatic charge that surrounds them and having got them up there it would not take much to push them along either by conventional means or varying the positioning of the charge.

Or the exotic one that they somehow can warp or fold space, ala Star-Trek. Ones reported winking out in one place and appearing in another give some credence but it's a wild theory if we could achieve that one day the universe would be our oyster.

            Can but dream.

PS Contracting your muscles wont levitate you off the ground but you will see a slight reaction in movement when you release them. If you combine 6 cans of baked beans with this exercise and time your wind release accordingly you might just achieve this feat briefly.

              Why would I chastise you?
My understanding of the physics involved in electromagnetic fields and warping space is limited to what I see on the Science channel.

The consistencies in UFO stories, I attribute to prior reading of other UFO stories. In other words, if the last 5 stories I've read about aliens is that they are short and grey...any aliens I see and report will tend to be described as short and grey.

But I don't know. The only reason I discount stories of UFO sighting (meaning the ones that say they saw aliens) is because of the complete lack of evidence. Stories are not evidence.

And I'm not saying any of this isn't real.....just that I need evidence.
What I keep seeing is stories...

I will need to send you one of my Tribbles, not the exploding wheat ones!

If you hear a thud and squeak, don't worry it is just me dropping Tribbles!

Or it might be Dan dressing up some rats, to make them look like Tribbles, (explosives are optional)!

I suppose what I should say then regardless whether we dreamed up these craft in si-fi or actually observed them for real , something has given us these ideas to puzzle over, how do you elevate and propel a non aerodynamic craft of any size or shape without using, turbines, rockets or propellors. Can it be done, how can it be done.

(The answer of course is Cavorite paint avalable from the Home Depot, as used in From Earth To The Moon :-))

As for the lack of chastisement I will be forced to join the Science Bondage Forum for my fix. :-)

I'm strongly thinking that it can be done, and we will figure it out eventually.
But anything else I would say is just in my imagination.
