Industries or types of business that are heavily reliant on Subscription Billing and Invoicing?

Hi guys, I'm looking to help a friend with a software company that sells a subscription billing and invoicing service. There are a number of companies offer billing software, but their competitive edge is that they are especially good at helping companies with complex requirements(eg, pro-rated billing, usage, multiple invoices, complex calculations etc).

They work with a number of startups, some insurance companies and others, but they are always looking for ways to get new clients. Can you think of any companies, industries that might be a good focus for this kind of service? What would be the best way to find these targets? Thanks.

Regards,
Steve

I'm thinking accountants, tax companies, web hosting companies, companies like Proactive... that offer a cream or solution that HAS to be used monthly or else the problems come back (or problems stay forever).

Sounds like a service that requires a lot of thought. The money might be better invested in a sales department. The best you will do is brand awareness, so perhaps a really, really good landing page and AdWords strategy can produce leads for the sales department to follow up with.

I would talk to Accountants and tax businesses. Specifically small to medium sized companies. They will deal a lot with small and/or startups (the customer you can target.) Since they aren't huge corporations, you can get in touch with the decision makers. Offer them a referral commission. I am sure they deal with a lot of their own customers that have poor billing software or none at all. My company recently went through this. Our billing software was extremely old and outdated. It was so bad we couldn't even update or get new computers as the software wouldn't work. We are a small/medium sized company that employs an accountant for only 1 day week. She hated the software. When we were ready for a change she was able to offer up a few options for us.
