Predicting Changes to Google Places
When doing searches for different keywords and then looking at the same "Places" listing different shortcodes under the link in the upper right appear for each term searched.
In addition, if you change your location and do a search for the exact same search term, you get yet another shortcode that is different.
I'm going to go out on a limb and predict that Google is going to weigh reviews based on #1 the keyword used to get there in the 1st place and #2 the location of the searcher.
It only makes sense, If I decide to leave a comment and I looked for the business say using the keyword "back doctor" then obviously I feel that the business is relevant to "back doctor". Also if I did a search from the same town as the business location, it will be more relevant than reviews from say 150 miles away, or worse yet, overseas.
IMO, this is actually a good thing, as a local consultant you will have an edge over these companies getting fake reviews.
I'm just starting to run some tests, so if anyone else can chime in with some data to support or deny this I would like to hear about your results or what you think.
If you are a local consultant I would look at sending your clients customers to many different "shortcode" URL's to diversify.
