How I'm Making Money with Offline CPA Drop Cards

I just wanted to share how I'm making some money with offline CPA marketing.

What I decided to promote is an email submit offer from PeerFly for a free iPad 2, that pays me $1.40 per conversion.

What I did was designed my own drop card that has the iPad 2 offer on one side and a $100 bill on the other side, but what I do is fold my drop card in four and that make my drop card look like real money and people pick it up thinking it's real and that get's my drop card readership.

You can see a few pictures of my drop card below to give you a better idea what it looks like.

I just started using this method today and I droped I think around 100 drop cards when I was out and about today and I just checked my PeerFly account and I made $14, so that's 10 conversion, I don't think that to bad for my first day.

I had 2,500 drop cards printed and plan to get them all out to the public in the next week, so I will post back here in the next week or so with an update as to my earnings, etc.

I just wanted to share this idea and see what you guys had to say?

All the best,

Martin

  • Im not the target market BUT I dont understand how anyone would go for that.
    No really i do,but I dont ha.

Seems like a time burner to me.
  • Its ideas like this that make me wish I had my pilots license. =]
And why do I feel like I've seen one of these before? Someone's got to be using them in here.

But I'd dump those babies by the ton from 50,000 feet above sea level. Then lets see what type of conversion you get.

  • If those are your results why not get a cpa offer which pays $15+ a lead?
    • [1] reply
    • Find me a free email submit offer that appeals to the general public that pays $15+ a lead... lol
  • Are there any companies that print UK £50 or £20 notes on drop cards?
  • These drop cards do work, and I'm not surprised at your quick cash on just $100 cards. I think a zip submit CPA might be even more profitable than an email submit.

Where do you get your cards printed, and at what cost? That would have to be factored into the success factor of a campaign like this. The CPA offer would have to last for awhile too, or these cards would become useless. Thanks for posting. Keep us updated on your progress on this. I could see how this could be used in a variety of ways to generate CPA and affiliate sales.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • How much did it cost to get 2,500 drop cards printed? Who'd you go to for the printing?
    • [1] reply
    • Nick,

I got my drop cards printed at www.gotprint.com and it only cost me around $32 with shipping included for the 2,500 cards. I have yet to find a cheaper and better printer online for the quality and service.

      I hope this helps,

      Martin

  • Martin, is that a regular business card from gotprint, or is it the "collectors" card? Did you design both front and back yourself, or do they have a money option for one of the sides?
    • [1] reply
    • It's a regular business card that i designed myself, gotprint does offer money images you can use on the one side. I also had my cards printed in matte finish with no UV coating, so when i fold them and drop them they do look more real.

      I hope this helps,

      Martin

      • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • Where do you "drop" them?
  • I would also like to know where you drop them

i feel like it would be weird to go around a mall just dropping papers...plus you could probably get in a bit of trouble for it aswell
  • One way to distribute them would be to employ high school or college kids to hand them out at sporting events. To ensure they don't get dumped in the trash can pay them a percentage based on the leads generated. You can easily create different links on the cards to track each person's performance.

Another way to possibly tweak this option is to do a QR code with a mobile offer. A little easier to do if you are just leaving cards or handing them out. With different QR codes I think you could track the individual performance. You would of course still need separate batches of cards.
  • Sounds like a unique idea to try with the right type of offer. On the flip side, thanks for the link to the website for printing. Looks like it's about $10 cheaper (w/shipping included) than the source that I currently use now. I think I may have found a new place for all of my printing needs

    • bhuff85,

I'm happy I was able to help you save some money with your printing at gotprint.com. I have been using them for over 3 years now for getting all my pizza discount cards, drop cards and business cards printed and I'm very happy with them and I have yet to find a better deal online for printing.

      All the best,

      Martin

  • Oh, I think it was a WSO or something similar where are guy would place them in college classrooms just prior to class starting. He did it in those big 101 level courses that have hundreds of students. He explained how he would place the flyers (or cards) on the desks and then watch the hits on his tracking program as students tried the offer. A student friendly offer like a free iPad would work well there I suspect.

Another option might be to find a local theater and do a revenue share. Create flyers to win a free iPad from Global Max Theaters (made that name up) and get the theater to distribute them after each show by the staff. Share the revenue with the theater when done. I'll bet you could generate some pretty good traffic there! This would work with other venues with lots of traffic.

I thought of another aspect to the high school thing in my previous post. Nearly every school has booster clubs and/or PTA. They all need help with generating funds to support school/sports activities. Getting them to pass out the flyers/cards and doing a revenue share would work well I think.

Martin always has something interesting going on!

    • redlegrich,

Those are great ideas on ways to distribute CPA drop cards and it just so happens that I have a friend that is a professor at a local college and another friend who is a manager at a movie theater and my son is in high school, so I'm going to be talking with them and work out a deal to get my drop cards distributed.

Thanks again for sharing the ideas.

      All the best,

      Martin

  • you can find people on Fiverr that would distribute them to colleges, gas pumps, etc.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • Come on Marty! Spill the beans! Where are you dropping these mofos?
  • clever stuff martin as usual. This idea has lots of potential.
  • How is this for a catchy title

Litter yourself to an easy $200 per day income!

I cant lie, there has to be better ways of making money than dropping shi# all over town.
This idea in its original form is truly GARBAGE.

Once again not saying you cant make money with a variation, please be creative and work out some kind of permission based arrangement.

    • I don't know... have you ever been to Rochester? I wouldn't care either.

  • $32 for 2,500? Thats a really good deal I was thinking it would cost a lot more for that amount.

I don't think I'm going to put a CPA offer on mine I may honestly just market our energy business with it. Something like "Fake money got you again huh? Well if you want real money just contact www.njenergyexperts.com for your FREE in-home energy inspection - thousands of members saving thousands of dollars on their energy bills every year".

    Or something along those lines.
I'm definitely going to give this a shot I think its pretty catchy. Not sure if it'll work but for $32 its absolutely worth a try.

  • OP: This is a clever idea. However...I have to be honest with you; wouldn't you be making better use of your time/resources by pursuing residual opportunities, instead of dropping these 'litter cards', and potentially getting fined for littering and/or banned from your CPA network?
  • I live in NJ, south of where the OP lives (NY). Although he COULD potentially be fined, there is so much litter in the city that it vey well WILL go unnoticed. There are TONS of random ads/business/cards/papers things that just float around the city on an almost perpetual basis. Not trying to say NY is dirty... ok that is what I'm trying to say. NJ is just as filthy imo.

Even still, I can put that aside and assume from Martins apparent level of knowledge in general, that he would at least be smart about how they were delivered. Hopefully taking his time, and doing it over the course of a few days minimum. If he does get in trouble, then he'll learn and not do it again imo.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • I don't know if you're trying to be funny, but you made me laugh.

Actually, after giving it some more thought, if I found one of those fake bills and opened it up to reveal the disappointment, I'd be super ticked. Not enough to report him to his network or anything, but I'd be pretty mad...I'd at least throw it really hard in to the trash can or something.
  • /\ You know I was just sitting here thinking and remembered I've already seen one of these at my university!

I completely forgot I was at the library and one of these things were sitting in the TRASH. It wasn't on the surface I remember it being like vertically in the garbage or something. Not easy to see. So I thought I got lucky I guess. Obviously when I put my hand in the trash I said something and I think a person by me laughed. Like the second you touch these things you KNOW you've been duped. I DO remember I was pissed. THATS why I posted in my first comment I felt like I've seen these before. It all makes sense now haha.

It would still be funny if people use them though. That would just show how desperate some people really are imo.

  • Now to expand on this idea, it would be really cool if we could get a small mastermind group head up by Martin, to come up with the best CPA offers, then group buy the drop cards so we get a discounted rate, and have multiple CPA offers!

edit: never mind, we would have different affiliate codes.
  • Hey Martin, any update on this campaign?
    • [1] reply
    • I would also like to know.
      • [1] reply
  • Really different idea and you have found some money out of it. great!.where did you get this idea? let us know how this idea progresses.
  • I'm not out to bash the OP, either, but I'm beginning to doubt the the truthfulness of his claims. If you add all the total claims he makes in his typical "How I make $150 per hour doing..." and similar posts here, what must his daily gross revenue be?

I replied to one of his threads a couple of weeks ago and he spammed me almost immediately with a private message about his pizza card gimmick. So I thought I'd do a little digging with the search tool in this forum, just to see what he's all about.

After a quick review, I found these posts and claims he's made. I admit I could fall for any one of these gimmicks but, when I view them all in one place, it's kind of embarrassing to admit it.

    • @beeswarn -

I'm sure Martin is fully capable of defending himself, but I'm going to make a few observations.

      1. If you read the threads, several of them are tied in with his pizza card thing, so they aren't different biz models. They're examples of how to promote the same thing.

      2. I believe two threads are the same.

      3. Just because he tried something and made money with it doesn't mean it's what he does full time.

Don't be so quick to judge.

  • Hi Martin and thanks for this advice, it can be a really great technique for who is leaving in an advanced country, at least able to visit a website.
If I do it there in a little city of Italy, no one will comprehend it but this is good enough for everyone.

    Thanks and see you soon,
    Alessandro
  • I like your method and I have used a similar method in the past. But my cards didn't look as good as yours. I had success with it, but not enough for me to justify the time and cost.
  • I'm slow to judge. And I'm slowly starting to form the opinion that what MartinBuckly probably does full time is make up stories.

And don't forget -- he started it with the PM spam.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • I would love to know where you originally dropped your drop cards, because 1/10 conversion on those is really good. Did you advertise local exclusivity or something?

    • offline master and everyone else,

Here are some of the ways I'm having my drop cards distributed and I do have an advantage as being in the offline advertisng business I have conections and friends that own businesses and who are willing to help me.

The first way I get my drop cards distributed is from my friend who owns a corner store/meat deli and he let me staple my drop card to all of his meat packages store flyer and he places them in his customers bag.

Another ways i get my drop cards distributed is the chinese take-out place I eat at every other day, let me place a business card holder display by the register.

I also have a friend who owns a barber shop and he gives one of my drop cards to each of his clients.

Another way is my best friend Ed who owns a computer repair store also let me place a business card holder display on his counter.

Now I also place a few of my drop cards on all the bulletin boards I go by everyday when I'm out and about handling business and I drop a card or two on all the resting benches I go by.

I'm also talking with a friend of mine who teaches at a local college and I'm trying to work out a deal with him to leave my drop cards in hot spots or high traffic areas of the college.

I'm not an exspert at CPA marketing I'm still learning and trying to find out what works and what dosn't, but wanted to share what I was doing and thought it might interest others.

I hope this answers your question and helps.

      All the best,

      Martin

  • Drop a hundred dollar bill dropcard and on the backside it'd read
"Hah! Did you really think this was a real $100 bill?? But you can get an iPad for free here!"

my man, you are a genius!
  • Brilliant. Thanks for the printing info also.
  • Would you be willing to upload the high definition $100 bill picture, so that we can use it? I am having trouble finding it on gotprint and I was hoping to have one that looks authentic like yours, as I am not a printing expert by any means!

    Thanks
    • [1] reply
    • offline master,

I didn't use a $100 bill image from gotprint, I got my $100 bill image online by doing a search and saving the picture and then I uploaded it to gotprint.

      I hope this helps,

      Martin

  • top man Martin, keep up the good work, appreciated, Mick
  • Thanks for the inspiration, Martin!

My first introduction to the "drop card" was from a real estate investor who had incredible success with it! On the inside was his message about how he could help people sell their home while saving them money by not having to pay a real estate commission. He used it as a teaser to get people to call him. Those that did call seemed to in most cases be serious, and so he was able to buy a lot of homes at a really good price using this technique!

(And for kicks every now and then he would drop a few at the local supermarket somewhere on one of the freezer aisles, but not too many.)

In his particular situation he found that in some cases if someone did not have a need for his investor services, they knew of someone who did and so the card got passed on to someone who could benefit. And because the drop card was different than every other "I Buy (Ugly) Homes" cards out there, the cards were kept longer and more likely to be passed along.

  • not sure about the US, but in the UK you can be prosecuted for this, even if it is for novelty/marketing purposes.

Many printers have built in systems which will not allow them to print "money" - the printer fails & shuts down. I especially wouldn't do it on lightweight paper, flyer card you might get away with it (a lot of the nightclubs do).
    • [1] reply

    • The thing about printing money in the US is, you are not supposed to copy or print the entire bill in exact size. It must be a percentage smaller (I forget, but I think it has to be no more than 75% of or 110% . . . don't quote me on exact percentages ) or larger than genuine US currency.

The other thing that keeps people out of hot water as far as counterfeiting is concerned is, these drop cards do not show the entire image. You get them, fold them in half, and it looks like a bill that has been folded in half twice (in quarters, if you will). But when they open it, they get the outer 2 quarters of the bill, with this weird section right in the middle that doesn't match up. So it's not the complete image of the bill. And on the flip side is your marketing message. So when the drop card is opened up completely, it doesn't look like US currency at all - I mean, nobody would make the mistake of thinking it's real once it's opened.
  • If you search youtube there are people showing examples of places that they are dropping them. They are mostly using them to recruit people into their mlm.
  • What a cool idea. Thanks for sharing!
    • [1] reply
    • I like your ideas! Keeping an open mind is the key and most of the time I never try to copy the same strategies as the originator but build on the ideas and adding my own twist makes all the difference. That is the real problem with internet marketing, we all follow the exact strategies step by step and soon the methods become saturated and they no longer work. The reality is ANY method will work if you tweak , turn, and twist it .....if you know what I mean.......I can server your favorite dish on a gold plate, or I can server it on a trash can top. Same dish, different presentation.
  • really its interesting job.....?????????
  • Fyi, most of what MartinBuckley is giving everyone, he's developed from his day to day dealings & interactions with people in regards to his pizza card business.

I appreciate him sharing his ideas.

  • i don't get how you had a barbershop use a business card holder to leave your "drop cards" at? can you elaborate... is someone going to see a bunch of cards that look like money that makes them snatch it???
  • Martin how much money did you end up making on this?
    • [1] reply
    • I'd love to know this as well. Did you get rid of all your cards? How did you get on?
  • I love those $100 bills! Always worked for me!

    • I just wanted to share an update on this idea, as I forgot all about this post and to be honset this idea did go as planed.

In a nutshell I did get all 5,000 of my cpa drop card out to the public and did earn around $500 with it, but would have earned a hell of alot more, but the cpa network I was involved with shut my link down as they say I violated the rules, even with the fact I got permission to use my drop card from them, but I'm not going to go on about that, I just wanted to let everyone know the idea does work, but there are still some risks and that if you are going to use drop cards in your local area double check and get proof you have permission to use them, so you don't end up like I did.

      All the best,

      Martin
