HTML vs PHP
Share on:

Hi, Everyone

I've been looking into Wordpress. I see it is PHP based.

How hard is it to edit? versus HTML?

Any recommendations on an editor?

Any reading that might help me?

I feel I might be getting in over my head!

I'm putting my fate in your hands.

Thx,
Dan

Hi Dan,

With Wordpress you have an admin panel that allows you to add posts or pages. This includes a WYSIWYG editor which allows you to type in your text in the same way that you would write an email or make a forum post.

So, no PHP is required for Wordpress and HTML is not necessary unless you want to edit your theme or add an HTML based widget.

The posts that you make using Wordpress are stored in a database rather than in static web pages.

Cheers,
Suzanne

Hi Suzanne

Thanks for the reply.

I've been using blogger. It is very easy to set up and make changes, BUT,

It lacks the bells and whistles that I'm looking for.

I took the plunge and set up wordpress on a new website, I'm working on.

I'll play with it and tweek it as time goes on.

I'll eventually get it looking like my web pages.

Thanks again for helping me make up my mind.

Dan

Hi Dan!

Let's put it this way. I'm a professional writer, not a "computer" geek. But I can edit php enough to make the changes in my WP blogs that I want. Actually, most of the mechanics of WP is written in php. The formatting is still HTML and CSS based. So, if you just want to tweak a theme, then this should be very doable.

Hi, Everyone

It's been a few days since I've been here. I jumped on the Wordpress bandwagon.
Bought a book on the subject and have learned alot. I LIKE IT.

Blogger is nice, sweet and simple, Wordpress is a dynamo workhorse.

As Tim Allen said "More Power" ARH, ARH, ARH!

I like the fact that it is totally customizable.

Thank you everyone, I learn more in this forum that you could ever imagine.

The support and people here are TERRIFIC!

yes, even though wordpress allows you to make posts easily, etc...how to you add to the existing header?

I haven't figured that out yet...I'm used to static html.

If you want to change the header or edit anything in your template you need to edit the theme file.

You can access the theme files by logging into your Wordpress Admin panel and clicking on "Appearance" and then "Editor".

Make sure you make a backup of the theme file before editing it.

Cheers,
Suzanne

Hi Dan, Wordpress is great, it's in a totally different league to Blogger. The PIPS 2.0 site I am currently working on is completely built using Wordpress Home Business Ideas & Opportunities apart from the forum, that is Joomla.

Because so many people use Wordpress you can virtually always find a solution to whatever problem you are trying to solve and there is a plugin for virtually everything. The PIPS 2.0 site I linked to above has about 25 different plug-ins.

Once it is finished I will start doing some Wordpress training which will be free to anyone. Hopefully I will be able to get a good community of wordpress marketers going.

All the best,
Mike.

Still learning the lingo and discovering all the plug ins, etc.

I guess it ill be a work in progress. Learning on the GO.
