As you may already know I have a monthly guest post by Nicolas Prudhon, PhD an internationally recognized Internet Marketing & SEO professional, as well as published author. I've just posted his update on the latest Google Algorithm changes. Some of the things he wrote include: 1. doing great SEO work be it on site or off site certainly helps a lot; yet doing too much of it can hurt you too! 2. when you place too many keywords too well located in a too consistent manner on your page, it triggers a signal to Google that you are doing something with the intention of influencing the search engine ranking. 3. Google is very wary about abnormal link growth. 4. too much good is bad when it comes to SEO with Google. Read up and update yourself on these changes... Off-Site Over-Optimization Is Now Possible! Thanks Peter for this piece of information. I just hope Google doesn't penalize me for unintentionally placing a keyword where they would view it as an intentional act of spamming or other malicious act. Google can be a hard mistress sometimes. Tim

I agree with you. There are things I do in my writing that I have brought from my days as a newspaper reporter. Some of it could be interpreted as intentional SEO, but it is just proper writing and communication. I hope Google goes easy on us! GT | |

I personally don't think you will get penalized for over optimizing your site unless you are keyword stuffing or hiding keywords etc. In saying that you don't need to aim for perfect on page optimization these days as long as you have your keyword(s) in the title tag and mentioned a few times throughout the page. I would also still advise placing your main keyword in an h1 tag and any secondary keywords in h2 tags, although it's debatable how much effect that has these days. I have also read a lot about the importance of natural link growth and alternating anchor text to appear more natural. Although I think alternating anchor text is good practice I don't think Google is as good at detecting unnatural link growth as people think. As for link building, how do you define unnatural link growth? Link growth is going to vary greatly from site to site. I think Google is focusing more on the value it places on certain links from certain sites. It would be easier for Google to identify sites which are prime targets for link builders and devalue those links rather than try and work out if a site is naturally building links or not and risk penalizing sites which have posted a valuable piece of content which has generated a lot of links in a short amount of time. There is an interesting discussion about it here http://www.webpronews.com/topnews/20...search-results Mike. |
